A normally closed, three-way valve comprises a housing having a supply passage, a control passage, and an exhaust passage. A valve assembly controls communication between the passages. The valve assembly includes a valve in the supply passage to open and close communication between the supply and control passages. The valve assembly also includes a second valve in the exhaust passage to open and close communication between the control and exhaust passages. The supply passage valve is normally held closed by the pressure of hydraulic fluid in the supply passage. A solenoid, when activated, moves the exhaust passage valve to closed position. A pintle between the two valves is shifted in one direction by the closing of the exhaust passage valve to open the supply passage valve against the pressure of fluid in the supply passage. The pintle is shifted in the opposite direction by the supply passage valve when the solenoid is de-activated, to move the exhaust passage valve to its open position. A spring in the supply passage acts on the supply passage valve in the open position thereof and during an initial portion only of its movement toward the closed position to assist the fluid pressure in the supply passage in moving that valve to the closed position. The spring is loosely captured between the supply passage valve and a stop in the supply passage so that it does not act on the supply passage valve when it is closed. Hence, the supply passage valve is held closed solely by the pressure of fluid in the supply passage.

Solenoid valve

An electromagnetic variable force motor circuit comprising a solenoid including a coil, a pole piece associated with the coil and a ball armature. A spring urges the ball armature toward a first seat and away from the pole piece. A first chamber is provided adjacent the first seat, the ball armature and the first seat define a first orifice extending between the ball armature and the first chamber. A first passage provides supply pressure to the first chamber. A second orifice is provided in the first passage. A valve including a movable member responsive to fluid pressure is provided in the first chamber. A second passage provides supply pressure to the valve. A third passage provides control flow from the valve device. A fourth passage provides exhaust flow from the first chamber when the ball armature is moved away from the first seat such that the ball armature controls flow through the first orifice to the fourth passage upon excitation of the coil. The valve is operable to variably restrict flow in the second and third passages.

Electromagnetic solenoid valve with variable force motor

An accumulator-dehydrator assembly for an air conditioning system comprising an accumulator housing defining an enclosed chamber including an inlet and an outlet in the upper end and a refrigerant and oil accumulator in the lower end, and a vapor drier canister assembly comprising a one-piece plastic body defining a closed top wall, a closed side wall and an open bottom. The canister includes an integral outlet projecting into and sealingly engaging the outlet of the housing. A vapor filter is associated with the outlet of the canister such that refrigerant flows through the filter before passing through the outlet. A perforated plate is provided in the bottom of the canister for holding desiccant within the canister. A refrigerant and oil tube is mounted externally of the canister and has a lower end extending to the bottom of the chamber of the accumulator housing and has an upper end extending into the outlet of the canister. A filter is associated with the lower end of the tube.

Accumulator-dehydrator assembly for an air conditioning system

An improved transmission fluid filter and a method of assembly wherein the filter comprises a plastic first member having a planar peripheral lip, and a sheet metal second member with a planar ledge and a continuous peripheral flange crimped over the cover lip and capturing the lip against the ledge. In accordance with the invention, a bead having an arcuate surface extends around the outside edge of the cover lip, and the flange is preformed in a continuous progressive bending or curling operation prior to engagement with the bead.

Transmission fluid filter and method of manufacture

In an oil pump inlet screen assembly adapted to be immersed in an oil sump and comprising a filter screen including a housing and a lift pipe adapted to be inserted at one end into an oil pump opening, the improvement wherein the housing and lift pipe are molded integrally of plastic material, and wherein the screen assembly further comprises a metal eyelet received over the pipe end and adapted to be press-fitted into the pump opening. The eyelet includes coaxial cylindrical portions respectively disposed internally and externally of the pipe end and an external flanged end portion which captures a circumferential rib on the outside of the pipe both to retain the eyelet on the pipe end and to function as a stop to limit press-fit insertion of the pipe end into the pump opening.

Method of assembling pipe joint

In an oil pump inlet screen assembly adapted to be immersed in an oil pump and comprising a filter screen including a housing and a lift pipe adapted to be inserted at one end into an oil pump opening, the improvement wherein the housing and lift pipe are molded integrally of plastic material, and wherein the screen assembly further comprises a metal eyelet received over the pipe end and adapted to be press-fitted into the pump opening. The eyelet includes coaxial cylindrical portions respectively disposed internally and externally of the pipe end and an external flanged end portion which captures a circumferential rib on the outside of the pipe both to retain the eyelet on the pipe end and to function as a stop to limit press-fit insertion of the pipe end into the pump opening.

Metal-to-plastic pipe joint

A transmission fluid filter comprising a metal base pan and a filter frame of thermoplastic construction which supports a filter medium in spaced relation to the base pan. Axially aligned openings in the frame and base pan received bolts for mounting the filter to a transmission housing. In accordance with the invention, a metal eyelet is crimped around a circumferential bead in the filter frame and has a central flat portion for absorbing the clamping stresses exerted by the mounting bolts remotely of the bead and crimp to permit high bolt retention stresses while relieving the problem of plastic creep and deformation.
