An integrated cell and circuit interconnection for photovoltaic devices is disclosed. Interconnection componentry includes conductive material utilized to connect a negative terminal of a photovoltaic cell of a substring of a photovoltaic device to a positive terminal of a photovoltaic cell of another substring of the photovoltaic device to electrically connect the cells together. Certain interconnection componentry include extension portions that extend beyond the edge of the photovoltaic cells to which the interconnection componentry are connected. The extension portions are configured to connect to an electrical circuit of the photovoltaic device and connect the substrings to which the extension portions are attached to other substrings of the photovoltaic device. The interconnection componentry and extension portions facilitate bypass diode integration into the electrical circuit, while optimizing shade tolerance of the photovoltaic device and increasing roof fill with regard to a roof on which the photovoltaic device is secured.

Integrated cell and circuit interconnection

A roofing system, includes: a roof deck; a first roofing shingle installed on the roof deck, where the first roofing shingle comprises a reveal portion and a head lap portion; a first step flap installed on the roof deck; and a first solar shingle installed on the roof deck, where the first solar shingle includes: a reveal portion, where the reveal portion includes a plurality of solar cells, a first side lap; a first side flap, and a second side flap, where the reveal portion of the first roofing shingle covers the first side flap of the first solar shingle, where a first portion of the first step flap covers the second side flap of the first solar shingle, where a second portion of the first step flap is under the first side lap of the first solar shingle.

Solar shingle and associated roofing system and method

A system includes a plurality of photovoltaic modules configured to be installed on a roof deck and a plurality of roofing shingles. Each of roofing shingles includes a cap layer composed of a first polymer material, and a core layer underneath the cap layer. The core layer includes a first layer composed of a continuous fiber thermoplastic composite tape (CFT), a second layer composed of a continuous fiber thermoplastic composite tape (CFT), and a third layer between the first layer and the second layer. The third layer is composed of a second polymer material.

Solar roofing system with fiber composite roofing shingles

A system includes first, second and third photovoltaic modules on a rood. Each module includes an upper edge, a lower edge and at least one solar cell. Lower edges of the cells of the first and second modules are offset from lower edges of the first and second modules. Upper edge of the cell of the second module is offset from the upper edge of the second module. The upper edge of the cell of the third module is offset from the upper edge of the third module. The first module overlays the second module. The lower edge of the cell of the first module is substantially aligned with the upper edge of the cell of the second module. The second module overlays the third module. The lower edge of the cell of the second module is substantially aligned with the upper edge of the cell of the third module.

Building integrated photovoltaic systems

A system includes a roof deck having a slope of 0.25 inch to 3 inches per foot and a roofing membrane is composed of a first material, and at least one photovoltaic module installed on the roof deck. The photovoltaic module includes at least one solar cell, an encapsulant, a frontsheet, and a backsheet. The backsheet includes a head flap located at a first end of the backsheet, and a bottom flap located at a second end of the backsheet. The backsheet is composed of the first material. At least a first portion of the head flap is attached to the roofing membrane, and at least a second portion of the bottom flap is attached to the roofing membrane.

Photovoltaic modules for commercial roofing

Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods that may include attaching a first photovoltaic module and a second photovoltaic module to a back-sheet, wherein the first photovoltaic module includes a first end and a second end, and wherein the second photovoltaic module includes a first end and a second end; forming a seam on the back-sheet between the first and second photovoltaic modules; forming an electrical connection between the first and second photovoltaic modules by electrically connecting the first end of the first photovoltaic module to the second end of the second photovoltaic module; and separating the first and second photovoltaic modules along the seam while maintaining the electrical connection between the first and second photovoltaic modules. Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to roofing systems that may include photovoltaic modules.

Photovoltaic module systems and methods

A method of fabricating solar cell, solar laminate and/or solar module string is provided. The method may include: locating a metal foil over a plurality of semiconductor substrates; exposing the metal foil to laser beam over selected portions of the plurality of semiconductor substrates, wherein exposing the metal foil to the laser beam forms a plurality conductive contact structures having of locally deposited metal portion electrically connecting the metal foil to the semiconductor substrates at the selected portions; and selectively removing portions of the metal foil, wherein remaining portions of the metal foil extend between at least two of the plurality of semiconductor substrates.

Laser assisted metallization process for solar cell circuit formation

A solar cell can include a conductive foil having a first portion with a first yield strength coupled to a semiconductor region of the solar cell. The solar cell can be interconnected with another solar cell via an interconnect structure that includes a second portion of the conductive foil, with the interconnect structure having a second yield strength greater than the first yield strength.
