Systems and methods are provided for collecting and distributing material. In one embodiment, a collection system comprises at least one storage compartment comprising a plurality of regions. A bin is provided for transporting material from a first environment towards the storage compartment. The system comprises a diverter, wherein the diverter is dimensioned to distribute material among the plurality of regions within the storage compartment. The diverter has a first position during use in which at least a portion of the diverter is positioned below the bin when the bin is in a raised position for emptying material, and at least a portion of the diverter is positioned above the plurality of regions in the first position during use.

A shredder system and methods for shredding recyclable material including a primary shredder that shreds recyclable material into a first larger shred size and a secondary shredder that shreds recyclable material into a second smaller shred size material. The secondary shredder includes a rotor and a knife that meshes with the rotor to cause all of the first larger shred size material to be further shredded to the second smaller shred size material. The secondary shredder may also include a diverter mechanism capable of diverting the first larger shred size material. Either the diverter mechanism or the knife can move relative to the rotor to create an opening that allows the first larger shred size material to avoid being further shredded into the second smaller shred size material. The shredder system may be disposed in a motor vehicle.

Shredding recyclable material containing information

A motor vehicle for collecting paper for shredding including an electric motor configured to at least assist in propelling the motor vehicle; a compartment configured to receive paper; at least one of a bin lifting device, a shredder mechanism, a conveyance device, and a dumping device; and at least one battery. The bin lifting device is configured to lift a bin and deposit the paper in the compartment, the shredder mechanism is configured to shred the paper in the compartment, the conveyance device is configured to transport the paper from a first location to a second location within the compartment, and the dumping device is configured to discharge the paper from the compartment. The at least one battery is configured to power (i) the electric motor and (ii) the at least one of the bin lifting device, the shredder mechanism, the conveyance device, and the dumping device.

A bin tunnel having collapsible sides is used with a truck box of a truck to load content into the truck box from a bin that is sized to fit within the bin tunnel when the bin tunnel is in an open position. When the bin tunnel is in a closed position a footprint of the bin tunnel is very small compared to the open position because the sides are retracted. The footprints can be less when the bin tunnel is in the closed position from thirty (30) percent of the footprint of the bin tunnel in the open position. When the bin tunnel is closed, the contents of the truck box are secure as the space inside of the closed bin tunnel is too small to allow access to the interior.

A mobile shredder has a shredder mounted in a truck box in combination with a vibratory hopper. The vibratory hopper is open on one side and opens into a fixed hopper. The fixed hopper is mounted on the shredder and is shaped to direct material to be shredded into the shredder. The vibratory hopper and the fixed hopper are located immediately adjacent to one another, but slightly apart from one another, so that vibration of the vibratory hopper does not cause vibration of the fixed hopper.

A mobile shredding system is used mounted on a vehicle. The system has a hopper, for receiving material to be shredded, a shredder communicating with the hopper, and a holding space for shredded waste into which the shredder feeds shredded material. A bin lifting mechanism with at least one chain onto which a carriage is attached is mounted on a side of the vehicle. The carriage has an engagement mechanism for attaching a bin and the chain is movable by means of a drive mechanism from a lowered position, in which the carriage is adjacent the ground on which the vehicle is standing, and a raised position, in which the carriage is adjacent an inlet of the hopper and the contents of the bin are emptied into the hopper via the inlet. The carriage has a weight measuring mechanism such as a load cell incorporated therein to measure the weight of the bin when the bin is attached to the engagement mechanism. The system further has a weight indicating display, and also a electronic storage of the measured bin weight.

Process and system for reclaiming polymeric fibers (e.g., nylon) from post-consumer carpeting includes shredding the post-consumer carpeting into strips, dismantling the carpet strips to form a mixture of the fibers to be reclaimed and the backing material to be discarded, and then separating a substantial portion of the fibers from the backing material. Preferably, the carpet strips are dismantled by impacting the strips of carpeting against an anvil structure with hammer elements using, e.g., a hammermill. A secondary reclamation system is provided whereby the separated backing material which may contain some fibers bound thereto is subjected to secondary dismantling and separation operations. The fractions obtained from the primary and secondary separation operations containing predominantly the polymeric fibers may thus be combined so as to form a process discharge stream which can be pelletized and/or baled as desired.

Rows of finger blocks are mounted to a frame body of a rotary industrial shredder laterally parallel to respective ones of the counter-rotational pair of shafts so as to be moveable slightly, but meaningfully, during the shredding operation while maintaining tight clearance relationships between the fingers and cutters. In such a manner, waste material, particularly waste fibrous material such as waste carpet, may be stripped satisfactorily from the cutter and spacer discs carried by the shafts. Preferably, the finger blocks include unitary cutter and spacer fingers extending inwardly towards the shafts in respective opposed relationship to cutter and spacer discs carried thereby.
