A level shifter, configured to shift an input voltage swing from a first voltage range to a second voltage range, comprising a first stage and a switching stage, with circuitry configured in isolation wells. The first stage includes a first stage input receiving an input signal that swings between a first voltage value and a second voltage, a buffer configured to shift the input signal to vary between a third value and a fourth value, and a first stage output configured to present a first stage output signal. The switching stage comprises switching stage inputs, configured to receive the first stage output signal, switch drivers, and switching devices configured to, responsive to the driver output, generate a switching stage output signal that is a shifted version of the input signal. The switching stage output signal ranges between a fifth voltage value and a sixth voltage value.

Level shifter with expanded voltage range

A security system uses a base unit and a portable transceiver which cooperate to provide automatic monitoring of a secure perimeter. An intrusion sensor is employed to activate a transmitter for emitting a selected frequency wave energy challenge transmission upon the detection of an intruder either outside the perimeter or entering the perimeter. If the intruder has the portable transceiver present to receive the challenge transmission, it automatically emits a responsive wave energy signal as an acknowledgment. A base unit receiver detects the acknowledgment signal and prohibits alarm action. If no acknowledgment signal is received, then either a warning or an alarm is triggered at the base unit. The system does not require manual control. The several distinct wave energy signals can be chosen from among various available radio frequency electromagnetic, and audible or ultrasonic acoustic, waves. An advantage of making one of the communication links by acoustic transmission is that the system disarms itself automatically only when the portable transceiver is within a precisely defined distance of the base unit.

Proximity sensing security system

A gift item which is illustrated in the form of a stuffed teddy bear houses a control system which incorporates a re-programmable solid state analog memory device which is used to record a message. In the illustrated embodiment, a write switch is housed in the teddy bear's ear, and while it is being squeezed, a microphone in the main control system will record a spoken message into the non-volatile analog memory. The recording will take place as long as the two-contact switch is squeezed, and will stop upon release of the switch or expiration of the memory capacity of the memory device, which is about 20 seconds. The message is played back by momentary compression of another two-contact switch placed in the bear's paw, which would typically be done by a child. Replacement of a prior message with a subsequent one can be done at will by closing the write switch again as was done initially.
