An ultrasonic generator comprising an input module for receiving a power signal. An output module for outputting an ultrasonic signal is also included in the generator. A motherboard is coupled to both the input module and the output module. The motherboard includes a digital controller adapted to control the input module and the output module.

Systems for providing controlled power to ultrasonic welding probes

An ultrasonic welding probe power supply for powering more than one ultrasonic welding probe with power is provided. The power supply is adapted to provide power only to one welding probe at a time. A ringdown period is monitored between termination of provision of power to a first probe and the initiation of provision of power to a second probe during which provision of power to the second probe is disabled. Circuitry is provided within an ultrasonic welding probe controller to monitor probe activity and to control the interval between termination of provision of power to one probe and the initiation of provision of power to a second probe so that efficient and safe switching is made among ultrasonic probes.

Multiple probe power systems and methods for ultrasonic welding

An ultrasonic generator has an output circuit for delivering ultrasonic power to a load through a transducer, the generator having an amplitude control input coupled to the output of a comparator, the inputs of which are coupled to a user interface circuit. The output circuit produces voltage and current signals which are applied to a multiplier in the interface circuit, which produces a power signal applied to an error input of the comparator, the interface circuit also having a signal processor which receives a user-input reference and applies it to a reference input of the comparator. The output of the comparator regulates the power output of the generator to the reference level, and is also coupled to an indicator circuit for providing an visual indication of whether or not the apparatus is in regulation.

Automatic regulation of power delivered by ultrasonic transducer

An improved battery charger apparatus having a control circuit providing different charging periods which are automatically correlated with the type of battery connected to the charge for charging the connected battery to a preselected full charge state. The apparatus has a charging circuit for charging the battery, a sensing circuit for sensing the state of the battery during charging thereof by the charging circuit and a circuit for determining first and second predetermined reference voltage/current states. The apparatus causes the charging of the battery at a preselected initial charging level for an initial time period and establishes a first finish time period. The apparatus further determines a first time at which the state of the battery reaches the first predetermined referenced voltage/current state during the initial time period, and causes the charging circuit to continue to charge the battery at a preselected first charging level after the determination of the first time for a first finish time period. The apparatus further establishes a second finish time period and determines a second time at which the state of the battery reaches the second predetermined referenced voltage/current state during the first finish time period. The apparatus terminates charging of the battery if the state of the battery does not reach the second predetermined referenced voltage/current state during the first finish time period, and causes the charging circuit to continue to charge the battery at a preselected second charging level after the determination of the second time for a second finish time period.

Control circuit for automatic battery chargers

A timing circuit for charging motive power batteries (B). The timing control circuit (25) provides different times of charge in accordance with the time at which a predetermined voltage/current state of the battery is achieved. Control circuit (25) cooperates with a controller (18) in causing termination of the charging operation immediately upon reaching of the voltage/current state if this occurs in a first time slot of an initial control time period. The timing circuit (25) provides an automatic finish time period of charge if the battery (B) reaches the predetermined voltage/current state at some time during the initial control time period. The control includes a switch (23) permitting the user to cause an automatic additional amount of charging upon completion of the normal charging cycle effected by the control, such as for effecting a weekend charge. The control further includes structure for terminating the charging operation in the event the battery being charged does not reach the predetermined voltage/current state at the end of a preselected maximum time. A signal light (24) signals such a fault condition in the charging operation.

Variable timing circuit for motive power battery chargers

Cooling means for cooling a control such as for use in controlling the operation of electric vehicles or the like. The control utilizes a direct current battery power supply and includes an inverter for delivering alternating current to an alternating current motor of an air moving structure, such as a fan, provided for cooling the control during the operation thereof. The circuit is arranged to cause the fan to have variable power as a direct function of the load demand of the control circuit so that maximum cooling occurs when the load demand in the control is maximum and minimum cooling occurs when the load demand is minimum. The circuit is arranged to maintain an effectively constant volt-second duty cycle characteristic at the control power supply to the air moving structure whereby the variation in power developed by the motor thereof is a function of the duty cycle characteristics of the control power supply as applied to the motor. The control may include an oscillator and ramp for providing, in combination with a feedback signal from the output of the control power supply, a variable duty cycle control of the inverter of the control so as to provide the desired maintained volt-second characteristic of the control power supply.

Control cooling means

An indicator circuit for indicating to the operator of an electrically propelled vehicle the remaining capacity of the vehicle battery. The state of charge information is indicated in digital form for facilitated readout. The circuit is arranged to prevent an increase in the indicated state of charge during use of the battery as a power source, i.e. in a motoring mode. The circuit is arranged to prevent a decrease in the indication of the state of charge during a recharging of the battery. The circuit utilizes a feedback signal from the digital counter portion thereof for comparison with a second signal produced in the control circuit to provide either a count-up signal to the digital counter or a count-down signal to the digital counter in providing the control of the operator indicator. The feedback signal may be converted to an analogue signal for comparison with the produced circuit signal in a comparator to provide the appropriate count-up or count-down signal. A fast count control may be provided for bringing the indicator quickly to the actual state of charge reading upon initiating use of the vehicle in the motoring mode. The circuit is arranged to prevent the indicator from reading out less than zero percent state of charge when the battery is being used as the power source and more than one hundred percent state of charge during the recharging operation.

State of battery charge indicator circuit

In a charger for the battery of an electric vehicle, a stable time of day clock is provided to initiate charging at a preselected time of day, and to control at least a portion of the charge cycle. The clock can be set in accordance with the schedule established for the vehicle so that charging will be accomplished automatically during the scheduled time of day when the vehicle is not in use. In the case of a fleet of such vehicles, at the termination of use, each driver simply parks the vehicle and connects an AC power line; charging for each vehicle will be initiated as determined by the clock associated therewith. An indicating system is provided to advise the driver that power has been properly connected and charging will commence at the appropriate time.
