A mold opening and closing mechanism includes an aligning mechanism which has a horizontal mounting plate including a number of vertical openings for the number of molds, that is supported by a pair of spaced vertical uprights secured to the section frame top surface. A plurality of aligning cylinders are located in the vertical openings in the horizontal mounting plate and move parallel with the mold holder motion. Each cylinder includes surfaces configured to mate with the clamping surfaces of the mold holders. The axis of one of the aligning cylinders is held but not clamped at the theoretical centerline so it can move to the actual centerline when the mold holders are located at the advanced clamped closed position. A position transducer is mounted parallel with the mold holder motion to sense movement of the axis of one of the aligning cylinders and a computer receiving positional data from the transducer compares the theoretical centerline with the actual centerline determined from the data and defines a displacement offset for the displacement program to align the mold holders to the theoretical centerline.

A control for a glass forming machine having at least one controlled mechanism which will generate position feedback signals representative of its position, comprising control profile means for generating a profile for each mechanism to be controlled, means for transforming the profile either into control signals for the mechanisms to be controlled or into simulated position feedback signals, a screen, and display means for receiving either the position feedback signals or the simulated position feedback signals and for generating display signals for the screen, and means for commanding operation either in a machine mode wherein the transforming means will transform the profile into the control signals and the display means will receive feedback position signals from the controlled mechanisms or in a simulation mode wherein the transforming means will transform the profile into the simulated feedback position signals and the display means will receive the simulated positoin feedback signals.

Bidirectional communication between one or more workstations which may be operating on one platform such as UNIX, VAX/VMS or NOVELL's NetWare with an event driven database which is operating on a different platform such as QNX is made possible by separating a gateway into two portions with one portion in each platform bidirectionally linked with a pair of BSD socket libraries on each platform.
