A system may include a processor to receive vehicle data from a vehicle system at a first location and communicate the data to a second location. The processor may integrate the data into a database of diagnostic data at the second location and identify a diagnostic code that indicates an expected operation of the vehicle system or an unexpected operation. The processor may determine a maintenance operation based on the diagnostic code. A method may include receiving vehicle data from a vehicle system at a first location and communicating the vehicle data to a second location. The method may include integrating the vehicle data into a database of first diagnostic data and identifying a diagnostic code that indicates whether the vehicle data represents an expected operation of the vehicle system or an unexpected operation of the vehicle system. The method may include determining a maintenance operation based on the code.

Systems and methods for evaluating repair of assets

An inspection system includes sensors that are selectively coupled to a vehicle during an inspection and/or maintenance event for the vehicle and a controller that is operable to cause a control system of the vehicle to initiate a first operation and a different, second operation. The controller determines whether first sensor information indicative of a state of the vehicle during the first operation exists. The controller sends a command signal to the control system to direct the control system to change vehicle operations from the first operation to the second operation responsive to determining that the first sensor information is lacking. The controller obtains second sensor information from the sensors based on the second operation and determines a condition of the vehicle based on the first and/or second sensor information.

Vehicle inspection system

Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing cylinders in an engine. In one example, the method may include while receiving first feedback from a vibration sensor coupled to a first cylinder of the engine, perturbing the first cylinder during engine operation. Responsive to the first feedback indicating a first vibration level difference greater than or equal to a first threshold difference, a first indication of a first degradation condition of the first cylinder may be set, and thereafter the engine may be operated based on whether or not the first indication was set.

Methods and systems for diagnosing engine cylinders

Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing cylinders in an engine. In one example, the method may include selecting a cylinder of the engine for perturbation, and while maintaining a horsepower output of the engine, perturbing the cylinder. Responsive to the perturbation of the cylinder inducing a crankcase pressure difference greater than or equal to a threshold difference, a degradation condition of the cylinder may be indicated. In one example, the perturbation may include cutting fuel to the cylinder. In one example, an engine load may be redistributed among each of remaining cylinder of a plurality of cylinders of the engine to maintain the horsepower output of the engine.

A locomotive inspection system includes sensors that are selectively coupled to a locomotive during an inspection or maintenance event for the locomotive and a controller that is operable to cause a control system of the locomotive that controls plural operations of the locomotive to initiate a first operation and a different, second operation. The controller determines whether the control system has first sensor information indicative of a state of the locomotive during the first operation. The controller sends a command signal to the control system to direct the control system to change locomotive operations from the first operation to the second operation responsive to determining that the control system lacks the first sensor information. The controller obtains second sensor information from the one or more sensors based on the second operation and determines a condition of components of the locomotive based on the first and second sensor information.

A locomotive engine control system includes one or more processors operably connected to fuel supply devices. The fuel supply devices are configured to supply fuel into different corresponding cylinders of an engine. The one or more processors are configured to monitor a fuel quantity injected into the cylinders of the engine before and after communication of an overfuel control signal. The overfuel control signal commands the fuel supply device corresponding to a first cylinder of the cylinders to supply excess fuel into the first cylinder. Responsive to the fuel quantity that is monitored not decreasing after the communication of the overfuel control signal, the one or more processors are configured to determine that the fuel supply device corresponding to the first cylinder is defective, and may generate one or more control signals indicative of the fuel supply device corresponding to the first cylinder being defective.

Vehicle engine control system

A system includes an energy management system configured to be communicatively coupled with a communication system of a vehicle that travels on a trip along a route. The energy management system is configured to be removably coupled with the communication system such that the energy management system is mechanically disengageable from the communication system. The energy management system is further configured to receive data parameters from the communication system and to generate at least one of a trip plan or a control message for the vehicle based on the data parameters. The trip plan and/or the control message dictates tractive and braking efforts of the vehicle during the trip. The energy management system is configured to communicate the trip plan and/or the control message to the communication system for the communication system to implement for controlling movement of the vehicle during the trip.

Data communication system and method for communicating data in a vehicle

A data conversion system for a vehicle includes an interface gateway device that is configured to be communicatively coupled with a data acquisition module and a client module. The data acquisition module obtains a value of a data parameter related to operation of the vehicle and communicates the value to the interface gateway device in a first message provided in a first format. The interface gateway device is configured to convert the first format of the first message into a different, second format to form a second message and to communicate the second message to the client module. The client module uses the second message to perform a function for the vehicle.

Data conversion system and method for converting data that is distributed in a vehicle

A data communication system for a vehicle includes an interface gateway device that is configured to be communicatively coupled with a data acquisition module and a client module. The interface gateway device is further configured to receive a value of a data parameter related to operation of the vehicle from the data acquisition module and to communicate the value to the client module for performing a function for the vehicle. The interface gateway device also is configured to determine when either of the data acquisition module or the client module is communicatively coupled with the interface gateway device and to implement respective communication configurations associated with the data acquisition module or the client module to receive the value of the data parameter from the data acquisition module or communicate the value of the data parameter to the client module.

A data distribution system for a vehicle includes a data distributor module that is communicatively coupled with a data acquisition module that obtains values of available data parameters related to operation of the vehicle, a service module that provides functions for the vehicle based on the values, and a memory. The data distributor module receives a request list from the service module that includes one or more requested data parameters of the available data parameters. The data acquisition module stores the values of the requested data parameters in the memory. The data distributor module retrieves the values of one or more of the requested data parameters from the memory and communicates the values that are retrieved to the service module for the service module to use the values that are retrieved to provide the functions for the vehicle.

Data distribution system and method for distributing data in a vehicle

A locomotive communication system for communicating between a locomotive and a fixed site. A communication system commissioning process is utilized to ensure that the locomotive phone number and locomotive road number are paired at the fixed site so that data downloaded from the locomotive, in response to a call from the fixed site using the locomotive phone number will be identified with the correct locomotive road number.
