This disclosure describes techniques that enable individual antenna arrays of a base station node to transmit digital information via a plurality of frequency bands. More specifically, a remote radio unit (RRU) may include a first set of antenna arrays and a second set of antenna arrays. Each set of antenna arrays comprise antenna elements that are configured for use with different frequency bands. In this way, the RRU, via the first and second sets of antenna arrays, may be configured for simultaneous use with different frequency bands.

Multi-band millimeter wave (MMW) antenna arrays

This disclosure describes techniques that enable a carrier aggregation of two or more carrier available carriers for uplink transmissions at a base station node. More specifically, a carrier aggregation controller may receive a resource allocation request from a base station node that is associated with an uplink transmission of user plane data from a client device. The carrier aggregation controller may determine a carrier aggregation for the uplink transmission and generate scheduling information for delivery to the base station node that is based at least in part on the carrier aggregation.

Optimizing uplink band scheduling of contiguous and non-contiguous frequency range 1 (FR1) and frequency range 2 (FR2) spectrum

This disclosure is directed to allocation of one or more radio bands to a user equipment (UE) for establishing a radio link with a radio node (e.g., eNodeB or gNodeB). The radio bands may include a shared band, such as citizens band radio service (CBRS), a primary licensed band, such as the B66 band, and/or an unlicensed band, such as B46 band. A radio communications system may consider a variety of parameters associated with the distance of a UE from a radio node, signal strength of a signal from the UE, the services requested by the UE, and/or spectral availability of the each of the radio bands to determine which radio band(s) to allocate to the UE. In some cases, the radio band allocated to a UE may be dynamically changed by the radio communications system as conditions related to the UE and/or the mobile network change.

Multi-band radio allocation for mobile networks

Systems, methods, and devices can be utilized to aggregate downlink millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency resources based on various conditions. In an example method, a connection request for downlink data is received from a user equipment (UE). The example method includes determining that a first congestion level of a first mmWave downlink channel is below a first threshold and determining that a second congestion level of a second mmWave downlink channel is below a second threshold. An activation request is transmitted to the UE. The activation request instructs the UE to activate a first antenna corresponding to the first mmWave downlink channel and to activate a second antenna corresponding to the second mmWave downlink channel. At least a portion of the downlink data is transmitted to the UE over the first mmWave downlink channel and the second mmWave downlink channel.

Intelligent carrier aggregation in millimeter wave resources

A wireless backhaul link is established between the IAB node and an IAB donor node via a first Narrow-Band Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) carrier, in which the IAB donor node provides the IAB node with access to a wired backhaul connection that links to a core network of the wireless carrier network. One or more corresponding wireless backhaul links are further established between the IAB node and one or more additional IAB nodes via a one or more corresponding NB-IoT carriers. A wireless access link is then established between the IAB node and an NB-IoT user device or between the IAB donor node and the NB-IoT user device via a second NB-IoT carrier.

Internet-of-things (NB-IoT) carrier-based integrated access and backhaul

This disclosure describes techniques that enable optimizing licensed and unlicensed spectrum allocation within a service area of a base station node. More specifically, a spectrum allocation controller is described that is configured to identify, within a service area of a base station node, one or more available spectrum to facilitate the transmission of network traffic within the service area. The spectrum allocation controller may further determine network traffic that occurs in non-overlapping segments of the service area. In this way, network traffic within each segment may be allocated to a combination of available spectrum.

Optimizing licensed and unlicensed spectrum allocation

This disclosure describes techniques that enable a telecommunications network to share available bandwidth within a cell of base station node between different air-interface technologies, such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and 5G-New Radio (5G-NR). This disclosure further enables spectrum allocation to service segments of a base station node. A spectrum allocation controller is described that is configured to identify, within a service area of a base station node, available spectrum, and in doing so, allocate available spectrum to non-overlapping service segments.

Spectrum sharing optimization within a base station node

A wireless backhaul link is established via a low-band frequency division duplex (FDD) carrier between an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node and an IAB donor node or between the IAB node and another IAB node that is linked to the IAB donor node, in which the IAB donor node provides a backhaul connection to a core network of a wireless carrier network. Further, one or more corresponding wireless backhaul links are established between the IAB node and one or more additional IAB nodes via one or more corresponding low-band FDD carriers. When a user device is determined to be in range of the IAB node for an establishment of a wireless access link via a mid-band FDD carrier or a time division duplex (TDD) carrier, the wireless access link is established between the IAB node and the user device via the mid-band FDD carrier or the TDD carrier.

Extended frequency division duplex (FDD) carrier-based IAB coverage

Techniques for monitoring and configuring a mesh network are discussed herein. A centralized database may receive, from one or more access points that make up the mesh network, conditions data associated with the access points and the backhaul links between the access points. The centralized database may determine a radio frequency (RF) resource that should be used for the backhaul links to optimize the mesh network and send an instruction to the access point to operate using the RF resource.

Mesh network augmentation of cellular connections

A wireless backhaul link is established between an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node and an IAB donor node via a Narrow-Band Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) or frequency division duplex (FDD) carrier. The IAB donor node may provide the IAB node with access to a wired backhaul connection that links to a core network of a wireless carrier network. One or more corresponding backhaul links are established between the IAB node and one or more additional IAB nodes via a one or more corresponding NB-IoT or FDD carriers. A wireless access link is established between the IAB node and an NB-IoT user device or between the IAB donor node and the NB-IoT user device via an NB-IoT carrier. Additional wireless access links may be established between a wireless user device and the IAB node via at least one of a TDD, FDD, or NB-IoT carrier.

Extended narrowband internet-of-things (NB-IoT) carrier-based IAB coverage

Solutions for physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) allocation, for example on a 5G network, include receiving, at a base station (BS) on a network, a session request message from a user equipment (UE) requesting a network session; based on at least receiving the session request message, determining a channel quality of a channel between the UE and the BS; based on at least the channel quality, selecting a first PUCCH format; and transmitting a message, from the BS, to the UE, instructing the UE to configure the PUCCH according to the first selected PUCCH format. Some examples further include: monitoring for a format change trigger; based on at least detecting the format change trigger, selecting a second PUCCH format different than the first PUCCH format; and transmitting a message, from the BS, to the UE, instructing the UE to configure the PUCCH according to the second selected PUCCH format.

Dynamic PUCCH allocation

Systems and methods for improving network resource allocation are disclosed. The system can determine which user's equipment (UEs) can be reallocated from a first network (e.g., one of the 4G network or the 5G network) to a second network (e.g., the other of the 4G network or the 5G network) to reduce load on the first network. The system can determine which UEs are capable of using each type of network and which services or applications that are suitable for use on each type of network. Due to differences in propagation and penetration distances of various frequency spectrums, the system can also determine which UEs have sufficient signal strength for each type of network. The system can reside on the network, on the UEs, or on both the network and the UE. The system can switch back and forth between multiple networks as conditions, applications, or other factors change.
