The present disclosure relates to a smoking substitute system and particularly, although not exclusively, to a smoking substitute device. The smoking substitute device is adapted to operate in a smoking operation while receiving power from an external power source. The smoking substitute device in particular comprises a rechargeable battery and a port to receive power for charging the rechargeable battery, wherein the device is adapted to operate while receiving power from the port.

An aerosol delivery device includes a first aerosol generator to generate a first aerosol from a first aerosol precursor and to introduce the first aerosol into a first fluid flow pathway, and a second aerosol generator to generate a second aerosol from a second aerosol precursor and to introduce the second aerosol into a second fluid flow pathway. The first aerosol is sized for pulmonary penetration. The second aerosol generator comprises a Venturi aperture to dispense and aerosolise the second aerosol precursor in the second aerosol generator. The second aerosol precursor is a liquid, and the second aerosol is sized to inhibit pulmonary penetration. The second aerosol is transmissible within a mammalian oral and/or nasal cavity. The second aerosol includes an active component for activating at least one of: one or more taste receptors in the oral cavity and one or more olfactory receptors in the nasal cavity.

System and apparatus for aerosol delivery and methods of manufacturing

A heat not burn consumable () comprising a plant product () interspersed with a thermally conductive material in alternating layers such as radially or circumferentially alternating layers. The thermally conductive material may comprise at least one tubular element or may have a spiral configuration. The thermally conductive material may form spokes (A-E) within the plant product. A heating element may abut a first longitudinal end face () of the consumable () with a longitudinally-extending conductive element () which protruding axially from the longitudinal end face (). The plant product () may have a smooth surface and the thermally conductive material () may be textured. The layers of thermally conductive material may have a grid configuration or a boustrophedonic configuration.

There is disclosed an aerosol delivery device. The aerosol delivery device includes a first aerosol first aerosol sized for pulmonary penetration; and a second aerosol sized to inhibit pulmonary penetration. In another embodiment, the consumable also includes an inner porous member () for passive aerosol generation. The airflow passage has an annular portion surrounding at least a portion of the porous member. In another embodiment, a portion of the airflow passage is located between a porous surface of the porous member and an opposing airflow passage wall. A minimum distance between the porous surface of the porous member and the opposing airflow passage wall is less than 1000 microns. In another embodiment, the consumable also includes a porous member () for passive aerosol generation located within the airflow passage. The porous member is tapered along a longitudinal axis of the consumable. In another embodiment, the consumable has a longitudinal axis and includes an airflow passage () between an upstream inlet of the consumable and a downstream outlet of the consumable. The consumable also includes a porous member () for passive aerosol generation. A longitudinal cross section of the airflow passage includes an inclined portion forming a passage angle with the longitudinal axis of the consumable. The passage angle is greater than zero degrees and less than 90 degrees and a wall of the inclined portion is formed from a porous surface () of the porous member. In another embodiment, the consumable includes an active aerosol generator () for generating a first aerosol from a first aerosol precursor (), and a passive aerosol generator () for generating a second aerosol from a second aerosol precursor (). In another embodiment, the consumable also includes an aerosol generator for generating an aerosol. An external portion of the aerosol generator is located at the outlet of the consumable. In another embodiment, the consumable also includes an aerosol generator for generating an aerosol at an aerosol generation location. The aerosol generation location is substantially at the outlet located at a mouthpiece of the consumable. In another embodiment, the outlet is located at a mouthpiece portion of the consumable; and the mouthpiece portion includes a nozzle for control of an aerosol from the aerosol generator.

Substitute smoking device comprising multiple aerosols and passive aerosol generation

There is disclosed a fluid-transfer article which is suitable for use as part of an aerosol-generating system of a type which may be used as a smoking substitute. The fluid-transfer article comprises a first region for holding an aerosol precursor and for transferring said aerosol precursor to an activation surface of a second region of said article, said activation surface being disposed at an end of said article configured for thermal interaction with a heater of an aerosol-generation apparatus. The activation surface includes at least one arcuate surface portion and is configured such that, when the fluid transfer article is arranged with respect to a said heating surface for thermal interaction therebetween, the or each said arcuate surface portion opposes said heating surface and is concave towards said heating surface. The arcuate surfaces form channels to receive an air stream to flow across the heated activation surface and become entrained with released aerosol precursor and then to be drawn towards a mouthpiece.

A carrier, apparatus and method for making an aerosol precursor liquid suitable for aerosolized delivery by a device such as an electronic cigarette. A carrier is fluid permeable and comprises a tobacco-derived medium for carrying a functional component, the medium being configured to release the functional component into a fluid to provide an aerosol precursor liquid infused with the functional component. A method for mixing an aerosol precursor liquid for aerosolized delivery of a functional component by an aerosol delivery device comprises bringing the tobacco-derived medium carrying the functional component into contact with fluid and allowing the fluid to saturate the medium to thereby cause the medium to release the functional component into said fluid to form an aerosol precursor liquid infused with the functional component. A receptacle comprising a chamber for the carrier is provided for mixing the aerosol precursor liquid. Example functional components include nicotine and nicotine salts.

An aerosol-delivery system having: an aerosol-generation apparatus with a receptacle for receiving a carrier; a heater; and a carrier for an aerosol precursor with a housing for location in said receptacle. Said housing is configured to provide a fluid pathway between a first end that is disposed in fluid engagement with an inlet of said aerosol-generating apparatus and a second end that is disposed in fluid engagement with an outlet of said aerosol-generating apparatus. A fluid-transfer article is located within said housing, the fluid-transfer article having a first region for holding an aerosol precursor and for transferring said aerosol precursor to an activation surface of a second region of said article, said activation surface disposed at an end of said carrier configured for thermal interaction with a heater of said aerosol-generation apparatus.

An aerosol-generation apparatus, which is suitable for use as part of an aerosol-generating system of a smoking substitute type. The apparatus comprises a heater having a planar heating surface, and is configured to receive an aerosol precursor carrier for thermal interaction the heating surface. The heater comprises a heating element at the heating surface, and the heating surface comprises a fluid transport region adjacent the heating element. The fluid transport region is configured to move liquid across the heating surface towards the heating element.

The present invention relates to an inhaler comprising: an assembly including a heater element arranged in the inhaler to be proximal to a substrate region configured for supporting a vapour or atomiser precursor substrate; wherein the assembly is configured such that the heater element is operative to achieve and maintain a target temperature in the substrate region throughout a period corresponding to a plurality of consecutive uses of the inhaler.

The present invention solves some of the problems of the prior art by providing a method, system and apparatus for readily refilling the reservoir of a smoking-substitute device with liquid from a dispenser. The method, system and apparatus of the present invention prevents liquid from being dispensed until the dispenser is securely and sealably engaged to the smoking-substitute device, provides independent liquid and gas pathways between the dispenser and reservoir, and substantially alleviates the problems of spillage and/or leakage when dispensing liquid from the dispenser into the reservoir of the smoking-substitute device.
