An exercise device includes a resistance unit having a connecting gear. It further includes a cable. It further includes an arm that routes the cable to an actuator. The arm is rotatable relative to the resistance unit about the connecting gear, the arm having a central axis. The arm includes a control that mechanically disengages a locking mechanism from the connecting gear. The control is activated by an activation force substantially directed either toward the central axis of the arm, along a length of the arm, or about the central axis. The activation force is mechanically converted into linear force along the arm that disengages the locking mechanism from the connecting gear.

In response to physical connection of an exercise accessory with a portion of an exercise machine, an identifier of the portion of the exercise machine is received. A signal including the identifier of the portion of the exercise machine is transmitted.

In one implementation, a handheld device for placing tile spacers includes a body that is sized and shaped for a user to hold; a cartridge enclosed within the body that stores a plurality of tile spacers; an input mechanism affixed to the body that is moveable based on application of force by the user; an opening in the body that is sized and shaped for tile spacers; and a dispensing mechanism contained within the body that, in response to an application of force to the input mechanism by the user, causes a particular tile spacer from the plurality of tile spacers to be moved from the cartridge and out of the opening.
