The invention relates to a method of manufacturing an optical conductor, in which method, a mixture of a resin and of a photo-initiator is exposed to UV radiation in order to form, by cross-linking, the covering of the optical conductor. The cross-linking takes place by causing the conductor (,) to advance past a UV source at a speed of at least 10 meters per minute (m/min). The invention provides a first source (,) which emits monochromatic UV radiation to achieve cross-linking mainly on the surface, and a second UV source which emits UV radiation of broad spectrum containing wavelengths that are longer than the wavelength of the monochromatic source to achieve cross-linking mainly in depth.

Method for making an optical conductor

An optical fiber bundle comprises optical fiber ribbons disposed one on the other to constitute a stack having a side formed by an edge of each ribbon and which extends in a substantially transverse direction to the ribbons. An adhesive member is placed on this side of the stack. It adheres to the lateral edge of each ribbon to bind them. It preserves the ordered structure of the bundle when the bundle is inserted into a cable jacket.

Ordered structure optical fiber ribbon bundle

The optical transmission cable comprises a sheath in which optical fiber ribbons are inserted, the optical fiber ribbons being disposed parallel on one another to form a stack of ribbons. Each ribbon is folded in two along a longitudinal midline. The stack of ribbons folded in two has an essentially V-shaped cross-section that is suitable for deforming elastically by varying the angle between the limbs of the V-shape, thereby enabling the cable to withstand being squashed without damaging the optical fibers.

Optical cable with a flexible stack of optical fiber ribbons

An optical fiber multi-ribbon including at least two initial optical fiber ribbons having individual first sheaths for assembling the fibers of each ribbon together side by side and in a common plane. The initial optical fiber ribbons are disposed side by side and in a common plane and a common exterior second sheath surrounds the initial ribbons. The individual first sheaths of the initial ribbons and the common exterior second sheath are made from the same resin. This resin is advantageously relatively hard. Applications include high-density optical telecommunication cables.

Optical fiber multi-ribbon

A process and apparatus for marking an outer jacket of an S-Z stranded cable to indicate the locations of switchbacks thereunder. The process comprises passing a portion of a cable core within a field of view of an imaging means to acquire an image thereof. The quantity of visually distinguishable conductors in the acquired image is compared to a reference value. If the reference value is exceeded, a transition region or switchback is indicated. Once a transition region is indicated, its position is tracked through a outer jacketing step. A marking to indication the location of the transition region is applied to the outer jacket according to the tracked position of the transition region.
