A hydraulic mount apparatus includes a housing having an upper portion and a lower portion disposed on a center axis and defining a housing chamber. A partition member is disposed in the housing chamber dividing the housing chamber into a pumping chamber and a receiving chamber. The pumping chamber extends between the upper portion and the partition member. The receiving chamber extends between the lower portion and the partition member. A decoupler is attached to the partition member separating the pumping chamber and the receiving chamber. A moving member is disposed in the pumping chamber and attached to the decoupler. The moving member is made from a non-elastomeric polymer sheet secured to the decoupler for providing the additional damping force.

A control system for an active powertrain mount includes a control signal which is based on the input velocity of the chassis at the active powertrain mount. The control signal may be proportional to the input velocity or to the mount velocity, which is the difference between the input velocity of the chassis at the active powertrain mount and the output velocity of the powertrain component at the active powertrain mount. The input velocity of the chassis at the active powertrain mount may be determined by a controller based on the CG heave and the roll and pitch velocities of the chassis. The output velocity of the powertrain component at the active powertrain mount is determined by the controller by integrating an acceleration signal from a component accelerometer disposed on the powertrain component proximate to the active powertrain mount. Corresponding methods for controlling an active powertrain mount are also provided.

Control system for an active powertrain mount

A fluid damper assembly for use in a vehicle includes a piston subassembly which includes a plurality of inflow passages and at least one rebound disk for restricting flow of hydraulic fluid through the inflow passages. A rod extends through the piston subassembly to actuate the piston subassembly between a rebound stroke and a compression stroke. An actuator supported by and within the rod includes a piezoelectric device and an amplifier for adjusting the damping force during the rebound stroke, thereby adjusting the suspension of the vehicle. A shaft within the rod is connected to a retainer to transmit motion from the amplifier to compress a spring and disengage the retainer from the rebound disk to allow the rebound disk to flex solely in response to hydraulic fluid pressure from the rebound stroke to open the inflow passages and reduce the damping force during the rebound stroke.

Actuation mechanism for controllable damper

A top mount assembly including a housing for being connected to the frame of the vehicle. A rod connection assembly is disposed in the housing for being attached to a piston rod of the damper assembly. A chamber is defined between the rod connection assembly and the housing for receiving a fluid. A resilient member is disposed between the rod connection assembly and the housing. A partition assembly is positioned between the resilient member and the housing and axially divides the chamber into an upper chamber region and a lower chamber region. The partition assembly defines at least one passage that extends between the upper chamber region and the lower chamber region. At least one electromagnetic coil is disposed adjacent to the passage for selectively modifying the characteristics of the fluid passing through the passage to modify the damping characteristics of the top mount assembly.

Top mount assembly having adjustable damping characteristics

A mount apparatus () for supporting a vibration source on a base is provided. The mount apparatus () includes a moving member () that is partially disposed in a pumping chamber () for moving within the pumping chamber () along a first axis (A) to create a volume change in the pumping chamber () to maintain the volume of the pumping chamber () to prevent a pressure increase in the pumping chamber () during the deformation of a flexible body () in response to an external excitation to effectively cancel the external excitation. The moving member () includes a moveable wall () of a flexible material, having a generally hour glass-shape in steady state, and extending between moving member upper and lower ends (). The moveable wall () flexes radially outwardly and inwardly relative to the first axis (A) in response to relative axial movement between the moving member upper and lower ends (), to amplify the volume change in the pumping chamber ().

Mount apparatus

A hydraulic mount apparatus () for supporting a vibration source is disclosed. The mount apparatus () includes a housing () that defines a housing chamber () separated by a partition assembly () into a pumping chamber () and a receiving chamber (), each containing a magnetorheological fluid (). A flexible body () is partially disposed in the pumping chamber () for deforming elastically in response to vibrations caused by an external excitation. A fluid passage () extends between the pumping chamber () and the receiving chamber () for passing the fluid therebetween during low frequency vibrations. A piezostack actuator () partially extends into the pumping chamber () for moving within the pumping chamber () for varying the volume of the pumping chamber () to prevent a pressure increase in the pressure chamber to substantially cancel relatively high frequency vibrations.

Hydraulic mount apparatus for supporting vibration source

A tie bar assembly includes front and rear units each including inner inserts interconnected with outer inserts with webs of elastomeric material. A pole sub-assembly is disposed between the units. The pole sub-assembly and the units define front and rear fluid chambers containing a magneto-rheological fluid. Fluid orifices are disposed through the pole sub-assembly for flow of the magneto-rheological fluid between fluid chambers. An electromagnet coil generates an electromagnetic field to affect viscosity of the magneto-rheological fluid. A connecting rod connects inner inserts and is slidably disposed through the pole sub-assembly for causing movement of the magneto-rheological fluid between fluid chambers. A displacement sensor detects movement to generate a signal to the electromagnet coil. Front and rear travel cushions are each disposed on the inner inserts for limiting the movement of the inner inserts toward the pole sub-assembly.

Double pumper magneto-rheological hydraulic tie bar assembly

A magnetorheological fluid-based hydraulic mount apparatus () for supporting a vibration source on a base is disclosed. A main fluid passage () extends between pumping chamber () and receiving chamber () for passing the fluid therebetween. Electromagnet coil () variably generates a magnetic flux across the main fluid passage to variably change the damping stiffness of the mount. A rate dip track passage () extends between the pumping chamber () and receiving chamber () for oscillating the magnetorheological fluid () therethrough to decrease the dynamic stiffness of the mount apparatus () at predetermined frequencies. A controller () applies a current through the electromagnet coils () at the predetermined frequencies and frequencies relatively close to and above the redetermined frequencies for substantially preventing the magnetorheological fluid () from flowing through the main fluid passage () to force the magnetorheological fluid () to flow substantially only through the rate dip track passage () for preventing a sharp increase in the dynamic stiffness of the hydraulic mount apparatus () from occurring at these frequencies.

A method and apparatus for determining likelihood of rollover of a vehicle and/or mitigating rollover of the vehicle is responsive to measured vehicle lateral acceleration and a measured one of vehicle roll rate and vehicle suspension displacements to derive estimates of roll angle and roll rate. First, preliminary, estimates of roll angle and roll rate are derived and used as pseudo-measurements in a dynamic, closed loop observer equation which represents a model of the vehicle in a first roll mode for roll angles small compared to a reference value indicating two wheel lift-off and a second roll mode for roll angles at least near a reference value indicating two wheel lift-off. The observer equation has parameters and gains with values for each mode stored as a function of roll angle index derived from measurements and pseudo-measured values. The observer equation produces second, improved values or roll angle and roll rate together indicating the likelihood of vehicle rollover. Rollover mitigating controls for brakes, active front steer, and/or active rear steer are also disclosed.

A suspension system having a frame, a cab having a front portion pivotally mounted to the frame and at least one actuator mounted between a rear portion of the cab and the frame. A position sensor is mounted adjacent the rear portion of the cab for generating a first signal indicating a position of the cab relative to the frame, an accelerometer is mounted to the frame for generating a second signal indicating an acceleration of the frame relative to gravity and an electronic control receives the first and second signals from the position sensor and the accelerometer and generates a control signal for controlling the actuator in response to the first and second signals.

A temperature compensation method for controlling a damping force of a magnetorheological (MR) damper is disclosed. First, a base operating current as a function of a desired force level of a damping force of the MR damper is determined, and a temperature compensation as a function of an operating temperature of the MR damper is determined. Finally, the temperature compensation is applied to the base operating current to generate a compensated operating current as a function of the desired force level of the damping force and the operating temperature of the MR damper. To refine the compensated operating current, the temperature compensation can be determined as both a function of the operating temperature of the MR damper and a relative velocity of the MR damper.

Temperature compensation for magnetorheological fluid dampers

A brake apparatus and method utilize an electric power brake booster for operating a push rod actuated hydraulic master cylinder. The existing vehicle electrical system provides electric power for the power brake booster, thus eliminating the need for engine driven or auxiliary pressure/vacuum sources. The electric power brake booster includes an electrically powered actuator having an output shaft adapted for operative connection to the master cylinder, and an input for receipt of a signal indicative of force applied to the push rod. The electrically powered actuator augments the force applied to the push rod in response to the signal indicative of the force applied to the push rod. The booster may include a sensor for sensing force applied to the push rod and generating the signal indicative of the force applied to the push rod.

Electric power brake booster

A method, system and computer readable medium storing a computer program is provided for independent control of a variable force damper system. The variable force damper system can be applied to control a vehicle suspension system. The system provides individual wheel control independent of vehicle body forces. In operation, at least one relative velocity signal and at least one body demand force is received. At least one body damper command is determined based on the body demand force. At least one wheel motion indicating parameter is determined based on the relative velocity signal. At least one wheel damper command is determined based on the wheel motion indicating parameter and a damper command is determined based on the larger of the body damper command and the wheel damper command.

Method and system for independent control of a variable force damper system

A method and system for controlling a vehicle suspension system comprise determining a relative velocity between a wheel and a corresponding corner of the vehicle, and determining responsive to the relative velocity a raw wheel demand force. The method and system also comprise determining a relative position between the wheel and the corresponding corner of a vehicle body, determining a scale factor responsive to the relative position of the wheel, modifying the raw wheel demand force as a function of the scale factor to determine a scaled wheel demand force, and controlling the vehicle suspension system responsive to the scaled wheel demand force.
