A system and method for electrostatic discharge (ESD) testing devices under test (DUTs) uses an ESD gun attached to a robotic arm to execute ESD testing processes. The system and method also uses a relay station to place a DUT after an ESD testing process is performed on one major side of the DUT so the ESD testing can be performed on the other major side of the DUT.

A system and method for electrostatic discharge (ESD) testing devices under test (DUTs) uses an ESD gun attached to a robotic arm to execute ESD tests. The system and method also uses cameras positioned around a DUT placed on a testing table to define at least one test point on a surface of the DUT. Using the defined test point, as well as settings on the ESD gun and a testing process scenario that includes actions to be executed by the system, the testing process is performed by the system.

Non-destructive imaging of an object. An imaging head supported on a rotatable arm samples an electric field scattered by the object at a plurality of locations as the arm rotates about a central axis, with the locations corresponding to a defined spatial domain located remotely from the object. One or more processors execute computer-readable instructions for controlling rotation of the arm and generating a multi-dimensional profile representative of the object in the defined spatial domain based on the sampling.

A sensor array having a plurality of modulated slots for microwave and/or millimeter wave imaging. The locations of the slots in the array define a spatial domain away from an object for detecting an electric field from the object. The invention provides increased structural monitoring systems that have sensitive continuous coaxial cable sensors. A preferred embodiment sensor cable of the invention includes an inner conductor, a dielectric jacket, and an outer conductor that is configured to passively deform responsively to strain in an associated structure. The deformation can be aided by the physical structure of the dielectric jacket, the outer conductor, or a combination of both. The deformation translates strain into a measurable change in a reflection coefficient associated with the outer conductor.

Systems and methods for protecting electronic devices from electrostatic discharge are provided. A preferred system includes a module configured to be received by an enclosure. The module incorporates an electronic component, such as a memory device, processor, and/or circuit assembly, for example, that is configured to electrically communicate with at least a portion of the enclosure when the module is received by the enclosure. The module also includes a first contact portion that is arranged to contact the enclosure as the module is received by the enclosure. Preferably, the first contact portion is formed, at least partially, of a dissipative material. A method and apparatus is provided for reducing or eliminating the amount of electromagnetic radiation being emitted from a system assembly comprising one or more subassemblies which comprise electrical circuits which generate electromagnetic radiation. The method and apparatus of the present invention also reduce or prevent electromagnetic radiation generated by sources outside of the system assembly from interfering with and adversely affecting the electrical circuits comprised in the subassemblies. To achieve these goals, the present invention provides an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) solution which comprises a plurality of lossy elements, and/or elements comprised of a combination of lossy and conductive material, to reduce electromagnetic radiation. Thus, the conventional EMC solution, which utilizes conductive gaskets on system assemblies and subassemblies, and which requires adequate contact between parts in order to be effective, is replaced by the EMC solution of the present invention, which is more effective at higher frequencies and does not have stringent contact requirements.

A site reference source acts as a programmable frequency source. The site reference source includes a symmetrical radiating unit. The symmetrical radiating unit includes a cylindrical shaped structure, a signal generator, a power source and an antenna. The signal generator is housed within the cylindrical shaped structure. The power source is also housed within the cylindrical shaped structure. The power source provides power to the signal generator. The antenna is external to the cylindrical shaped structure. The antenna is electrically connected to the signal generator housed within the cylindrical shaped structure. In order to radiate signals, the signal generator generates signals and transmits the signals through the cylindrical shaped structure to the antenna.

Equipment under test is adjusted during set-up for electromagnetic compatibility testing. The equipment under test is placed on a base, such as a table, other structure or the ground. Positioners are connected to cables and/or subparts of the equipment under test. For example, the positioners are non-metallic pneumatic cylinders. The positioners are anchored to the base, to the device under test, or to some other structure. For various positions of an antenna relative to the equipment under test, positions of the positioners are found for which there is a maximum signal response. This is done by measuring signal response for current positions of the positioners. The current positions of the positioners are then varied using a remote control unit which controls positions of the positioners. This is repeated for as many different positions as desired. The positions which resulted in the maximum signal response is utilized for the electromagnetic compatibility testing.

An electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage prevention device is comprised of a spark gap coupled in series with a high-impedance network, with a first node of the series combination of the spark gap and high-impedance network coupled to a conductive location that may be subject to an electrostatic discharge and the second node coupled to a conductor capable of conducting away charge delivered by an ESD event. The spark gap defines the level of electrical isolation and the high-impedance network controls dissipation of charge delivered by an ESD event.
