A safety wrench for coupling and uncoupling hammer union type connections employs a spring biased retractable bolt to apply a blow to the union lug. In use the bolt is retracted rearward to compress compression springs positioned within an internal spring bore in the bolt to a position away from the lug of the union to be rotated. When the bolt is disengaged from the ratchet mechanism, the compression springs rapidly extend to rapidly move the bolt forward to impact the union lug and rotate the union. The bolt may be retracted by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder, a hand lever, or a rack and pinion mechanism. Reversing the position of the safety wrench on the union lug will allow the union to be rotated in the opposite direction.

Disclosed is a torque limiter having driver mandrel and driven axially aligned mandrels, a piston movable into and out of an engaged position wherein the driver and driven mandrels are coupled together to transmit torque there between. Hydraulically locking the movable piston in an engaged position. Disengaging the hydraulic lock when during rotation when a specified torque magnitude is exceeded to allow relative rotation between the mandrels. Resetting the torque limiter by hydraulically locking the piston in the engaging position when relative rotation ceases or is reduced.

A power head for connection in a tubing string suspended in a subterranean location in a wellbore is useful for removing debris from the wellbore. When the power head is in the closed position, well fluids pumped down the tubing string will flow through the power head. When the power head is moved to the open position by dropping a actuator ball onto a seat in the power head, the power head creates flow down along the annulus to circulate debris laden well fluids into a catch apparatus such as a catch basket or screen. In the open position, nozzles and the eductor create the reverse flow.

Differential pressure wellbore tool and related methods of use

Disclosed is a downhole well filter () and method of use in a tubing string with a power head () for creating reverse flow. The filter assembly includes an inner pipe () into which fluid flow is directed. The inner pipe is positioned within a cylindrical screen member (). The well fluid flows through the screen member and debris from the fluid is deposited in the annulus () between the inner pipe and screen member. The screen member has a cap () at its upper end to prevent fluid from escaping from the upper end of the screen member. The cap may have a pop off valve () so fluid can escape from the screen member when the screen becomes clogged with debris or pressure builds within the screen member.

Wellbore filter screen and related methods of use

A downhole bypass valve utilizes a stationary sleeve defining an interior ball-seat. When a dropped ball is seated, fluid differential pressure is diverted to an annular area adjacent a first sliding sleeve. The sleeve slides in response to the pressure differential upon shearing of a shear pin, or similar, and opens ports to the wellbore annulus. Treatment or maintenance operations can then occur through the ports, which can be fitted with nozzles. A second sliding sleeve, independent from the first, is operated in response to dropping a second ball into the device. The second ball diverts fluid differential pressure to an annular area adjacent the second sleeve and movement occurs when a shear pin shears. The second sleeve covers the ports to the wellbore annulus and closes the valve. After a sliding sleeve shifts, pressure across the sleeve is equalized, allowing reverse flow without risk of accidental sleeve actuation.

Sliding sleeve bypass valve for well treatment

Apparatus for downhole filtration of fluids in a wellbore. The apparatus has a diverter and a filter slidably mounted on a mandrel. The diverter has a circumferential wiper element between the mandrel and the casing within which the apparatus is run. When fluids are reverse circulated, or the tool is being pulled out, the diverter shifts to a downward position, wherein it seals against an upper end of the filter, filtering out solids in the fluids and retaining them in a chamber between the sleeve and mandrel. When running the tool into a wellbore, the diverter shifts to an upper position to permit fluids to bypass the filter sleeve. The filter sleeve bears against a spring loaded seat, which permits creating a gap between the diverter and an upper end of the filter sleeve to allow fluids to bypass the filter sleeve should the filter sleeve slots become plugged.

Downhole filter tool

A method for coupling ends of two insulated conductors includes coupling an end portion of a core of a first insulated conductor to an end portion of a core of a second insulated conductor. At least a part of the end portions of the cores are at least partially exposed. Electrically insulating material is placed over the exposed portions of the cores. An inner sleeve is placed over end portions of the two insulated conductors to be coupled. An outer sleeve is placed over the inner sleeve. There is an open volume between the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve. The inner sleeve and the outer sleeve are coupled to jackets of the insulated conductors. A pressurized fluid is provided into the open volume between the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve to compress the inner sleeve into the electrically insulating material and compact the electrically insulating material.

Hydroformed splice for insulated conductors

Disclosed is a bypass tool for a tubing string a wellbore. The bypass tool has a tubular body with ports in the body wall to inject fluid into an annulus. An axially shiftable sleeve is mounted to control flow through the ports. Spring-loaded detents in the body engage openings in the sleeve. In operation, the bypass tool is run into the wellbore in the closed position with the sleeve closing the ports. When bypass flow is desired, an actuation ball is pumped down the wellbore and engages the detents, unlocking the sleeve to shift to where ports in the sleeve align with ports in the mandrel. To return the bypass tool to the closed position, a second ball of the same diameter as the first ball is pumped down the well to engage and depress the detents to allow the sleeve to shift to a closed position.

Wellbore bypass tool and related methods of use

A bypass valve for use in tubing string which can be repeatedly opened and closed to selectively provide bypass fluid flow between the interior of the tubing string and the annulus to assist in flowing debris. The valve uses hardened valve elements which can be opened and closed while flowing fluids under pressure through the tubing string. The valve is actuated by placing the tubing string in a sufficient weight down condition to operate the valve. A trigger is provided to prevent unintended actuation of the bypass valve during use.
