The present disclosure generally relates to conformable adhesive articles that are capable of attaching or adhering to a substrate and that can be removed from the substrate without causing damage to the substrate. The present disclosure also generally relates to methods of making and using such adhesive articles. In some embodiments, the adhesive article includes (1) a releasable layer having a first major surface and a second major surface; the second major surfaces including a pressure sensitive adhesive capable of adhering the adhesive article to a surface; and (2) a compliant layer having a first major surface and a second major surface; the second major surface of the compliant layer adjacent to the first major surface of the releasable layer. In some embodiments, the releasable layer debonds from both the surface and the compliant layer when the adhesive article is stretch released at an angle of less than 35 degrees.

Conformable adhesive articles

Pressure sensitive adhesives are provided comprising an adhesive copolymer which is a copolymer of a set of monomers comprising: a) 41.0-49.0 weight percent of isobornyl acrylate (IBOA); b) 0.0-4.5 weight percent of one or more basic-functional polar monomers comprising a polymerizable double bond; and c) 46.5-58.9 weight percent of one or more alkyl (meth)acrylate monomers, where the alkyl groups are selected from linear and branched alkyl groups comprising 2-12 carbon atoms and branched alkyl groups comprising 13-20 carbon atoms and wherein weight percentages are weight percent of all monofunctional monomers comprising the adhesive copolymer. In another aspect, the present disclosure provides tapes comprising the pressure sensitive adhesive according to the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the tapes are flexographic plate mounting tapes.

Crosslinkable compositions, crosslinked compositions, articles containing these compositions, and methods of making the articles are provided. The crosslinkable compositions, which include two (meth)acrylate polymers, are used to form the crosslinked compositions upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The crosslinkable and crosslinked compositions are free or substantially free of tackifiers. The crosslinked compositions can function as pressure-sensitive adhesives. The crosslinkable compositions are well suited for use with hot melt processing methods.

An adhesive article including: a flexible backing; a first cushion layer permanently bonded to a first surface of the flexible backing, wherein the first cushion layer: has an average thickness of at least 10 micrometers; and includes an acrylate pressure-sensitive adhesive having a Fox Tg of up to &#x2212;30&#xb0; C., wherein the acrylate pressure-sensitive adhesive includes a (meth)acrylate copolymer; and a first continuous shell layer adjacent the first cushion layer, wherein: the first continuous shell layer has an average thickness of up to 25 micrometers; the ratio of the first cushion layer average thickness to the first shell layer average thickness is at least 2:1; the first continuous shell layer includes an adhesive having a Fox Tg of &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. to +50&#xb0; C.; and the first continuous shell layer adhesive includes a copolymer having a weight average molecular weight of at least 100,000 Daltons.

Adhesive articles including a cushion layer and a continuous shell layer

The present disclosure provides a crosslinkable composition including a (meth)acrylate polymer and a visible light absorbing compound. Two percent or less of the carbon-carbon bonds in the crosslinkable composition are double bonds. The composition allows for inclusion of one or more materials degradable by ultraviolet radiation and/or stabilized against ultraviolet radiation. Methods for making a crosslinked composition is also provided. One method includes obtaining a crosslinkable composition and subjecting the crosslinkable composition to radiation having a wavelength of 400 nm or greater. Another method includes subjecting a crosslinkable composition to first and second radiations that are different from each other.

Described herein is a backing comprising a sorbent material entrapped in a non-woven fiber matrix, wherein the backing comprises a first and a second major surface; and a first adhesive layer contacting the first major surface of the backing, wherein the first adhesive layer comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive.

Described herein is a pressure sensitive adhesive comprising a high molecular weight fluorinated polymer having a Tg less than about 0&#xb0; C. and a number average molecular weight greater than about 20 kilograms/mole; and a low molecular weight fluorinated polymer derived from an ethylenically unsaturated fluorinated monomer, wherein the low molecular weight fluorinated polymer has a Tg greater than about &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. and a number average molecular weight less than about 18 kilograms/mole. Also described herein are articles comprising the pressure sensitive adhesive composition.

Fluorinated pressure sensitive adhesives and articles thereof

Described herein is a composition comprising a polymeric blend of: (i) a first polymer comprising at least one acrylic block copolymer, wherein the at least one acrylic block copolymer comprises: (a) at least two A block polymeric units wherein each A block has a glass transition temperature of at least 90 C and each A block is independently derived from a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising a first (meth)acrylate monomer; and (b) at least one B block polymeric unit wherein the at least one B block has a glass transition temperature no greater than &#x2212;30 C and wherein the at least one B block is derived from a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising a second (meth)acrylate monomer; and (ii) a second polymer selected from at least one of a polyvinyl acetal resin, a polyvinyl acetate, and a cellulose ester.

Compositions based on acrylic block copolymer blends

An adhesive composition includes a first acrylic polymer preparable from first components and a second acrylic polymer. The first components comprising i) a branched first alkyl (meth)acrylate having from 4 to 22 carbon atoms, and ii) at least one of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid. The second acrylic polymer is preparable from second components comprising iii) at least one second alkyl (meth)acrylate having from 4 to 22 carbon atoms, iv) a (meth)acrylamide represented by the formula wherein Ris H or methyl, and Rand Reach independently represents H or an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or taken together Rand Rmay form a divalent alkylene group having from 4 to 6 carbon atoms, and v) at least one high Tmacromer having a terminal free-radically polymerizable unsaturated group, the high Tmacromer having a Tof at least 45&#xb0; C. Based on the combined total weight of the at least one first acrylic polymer and the at least one second acrylic polymer, the at least one second acrylic polymer is present at a level of from 5 to 40 percent by weight. Methods of making the adhesive composition are also disclosed.

Adhesive compositions and articles, and methods of making and using the same

Disclosed is a crosslinked adhesive composition comprising a low T(meth)acrylate copolymer component, a high T(meth)acrylate copolymer component, and a hydrogenated hydrocarbon tackifier. This disclosure provides a pressure-sensitive adhesive and pressure-sensitive adhesive articles that are particularly useful in the bonding of low surface energy (LSE) substrates.

Described herein are release layers formed via solventless extrusion. The release layers include a polyolefin and an alkyl dimethicone. The release layers exhibit tailorable release properties from pressure-sensitive adhesives. The release layers are simple to make and require no post-treatment in order to impart the observed release properties. The release layers are adaptable to multilayer extrusion, blown film formation, and cast film formation techniques.

Release films via solventless extrusion processes

Adhesive articles are prepared through the use of modified release liners. The modified release liners include a fracturable layer and a release surface partially covering the fracturable layer. The modified release liners may be prepared by selective coating of a release material onto the fracturable layer or by selective treatment of a release surface to expose portions of the fracturable layer. Upon removal of an adhesive layer adhered to the modified release liner, portions of the fracturable layer of the release liner adhere to the adhesive layer to form a modified adhesive layer.

Methods for preparing modified release liners and modified adhesive articles

The present application is directed to a non-aqueous composition. The composition comprises a blend of an acidic copolymer derived from a first group of monomers comprising at least one acidic monomer, and a basic copolymer derived from a second group of monomers comprising at least one basic monomer. The basic copolymer may comprise an amide functionality. In some embodiments, the composition comprises an acidic (meth)acrylic copolymer having a Tg less than 0&#xb0; C., which is derived from a first group of monomers comprising at least one acidic monomer, and a basic (meth)acrylic copolymer having a Tg less than 0&#xb0; C., which is derived from a second group of monomers comprising at least one basic monomer. Additionally, the composition may comprise a minimum of 0.10 moles of acid/base pairs per kilogram of composition.
