A method of determining a condition of a component (e.g., valves) of an engine having a manifold air pressure sensor during a cold test includes providing pressurized air to an intake of the engine. The method includes rotating a crankshaft of the engine. The method includes measuring pressures with the manifold air pressure sensor as a function of crankshaft rotational position. The method includes comparing the pressures with a predetermined baseline. The method includes indicating a condition of the component based on the comparison of the pressures with the baseline.

Device and method for cold testing engine component operation

A method of verifying a cylinder deactivation mode on an engine is provided. The method can include activating an ignition device in a deactivated cylinder during an exhaust stroke of the deactivated cylinder. The method can include measuring a voltage of the ignition device. The method can include comparing at least one of an amplitude and a timing of a measured spike of the voltage against a baseline voltage spike. The method can include indicating a status of the deactivation mode based on the comparison against the baseline voltage spike.

In at least one embodiment, an apparatus for evaluating performance of an integrated coil on plug (CoP) assembly is provided. The apparatus comprises a controller. The controller is configured to transmit a control signal to activate the CoP assembly. The controller is further configured to receive an indirect signal including a low frequency (LF) component from the CoP assembly responsive to the control signal. The controller is further configured to compare the LF component to predetermined data to evaluate the performance of the CoP assembly.

System and method for evaluating an integrated coil on plug ignition system

Ferromagnetic tagging material is suspended in a constituent of a two constituent mixing system. Two tagging material sensors are employed that respectively monitor the tagged constituent as it flows in the system alone and the mixed constituents as they flow to a dispenser nozzle. A monitor calculates the volumetric ratio of the two constituents present when mixed based upon the concentration of tagging material sensed by each sensor. A warning is given when the calculated ratio exceeds predetermined limits.

A linear motor control system and method to increase apparent motor stiffness by providing linear motor resistance to perturbations caused by external forces exerted on a slide mass and a base mass. Primary and secondary sensors detect the accelerations of the slide mass and the base mass relative to ground and generate acceleration signals corresponding thereto. A position detector senses the position of the slide mass relative to the base mass and generates a position signal corresponding thereto. A signal processor processes the first and second acceleration signals and the position signal to determine deviations in the position, velocity and acceleration of the slide mass relative to the base mass from selected values caused by the external forces, and to generate a motor control signal to provide linear motor resistance against such deviations.
