A stent or other intraluminal medical device may be constructed utilizing a series of split-bridges interposed between a series of fixed bridges to reduce the likelihood of deformation during stent loading and stent deployment without sacrificing overall stent flexibility. The stent comprises a plurality of hoops interconnected by a plurality of fixed bridges. The stent also comprises a plurality of split-bridges, which only make contact when the stent is subjected to compressive axial loading. The stent may also comprise markers formed from housings integral with the stent and marker inserts having a higher radiopacity than the stent. This design provides for more precise placement and post-procedural visualization in a vessel, by increasing the radiopacity of the stent under X-ray fluoroscopy. The housings are formed integral to the stent and the marker inserts are made from a material close in the galvanic series to the stent material and sized to substantially minimize the effect of galvanic corrosion. The housings are also shaped to minimize their impact on the overall profile of the stent.

Split-bridge stent design

Medical devices, and in particular implantable medical devices, may be coated to minimize or substantially eliminate a biological organism's reaction to the introduction of the medical device to the organism. The medical devices may be coated with any number of biocompatible materials. Therapeutic drugs, agents or compounds may be mixed with the biocompatible materials and affixed to at least a portion of the medical device. These therapeutic drugs, agents or compounds may also further reduce a biological organism's reaction to the introduction of the medical device to the organism. Various materials and coating methodologies may be utilized to maintain the drugs, agents or compounds on the medical device until delivered and positioned.

Medical devices, drug coatings and methods for maintaining the drug coatings thereon

A stent or other intraluminal medical device having markers formed from housings integral with the stent and marker inserts having a higher radiopacity than the stent provides for more precise placement and post-procedural visualization in a vessel, by increasing the radiopacity of the stent under X-ray fluoroscopy. The housings are formed integral to the stent and the marker inserts are made from a material close in the galvanic series to the stent material and sized to substantially minimize the effect of galvanic corrosion.

Radiopacity intraluminal medical device

A delivery apparatus for a self-expanding stent is disclosed. The apparatus has an outer sheath forming an elongated tubular member having distal and proximal ends and an inside and outside diameter. The apparatus also includes an inner shaft located coaxially within the outer sheath. The inner shaft has a distal end, a proximal end and longitudinal axis extending therebetween. At least a portion of the inner shaft is made from a flexible coiled member. The shaft preferably includes a stop attached thereto, the stop being proximal to the distal end of the sheath. Lastly, the apparatus includes a self-expanding stent located within the outer sheath, wherein the stent makes frictional contact with the outer sheath and the shaft is disposed coaxially within a lumen of the stent. During deployment of the stent, the stent makes contact with the stop.

Delivery apparatus for a self-expanding stent

A delivery apparatus for self-expanding stents may be utilized to safely deliver stents to a target site. The apparatus has an outer sheath forming an elongated tubular member having distal and proximal ends and an inside and outside diameter. The apparatus also includes an inner shaft located coaxially within the outer sheath. The inner shaft has a distal end, a proximal end and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween. At least a portion of the inner shaft is made from a flexible coiled member. The shaft preferably includes a stop attached thereto, the stop being proximal to the distal end of the sheath. Lastly, the apparatus includes a self-expanding stent located within the outer sheath, wherein the stent makes frictional contact with the outer sheath and the shaft is disposed coaxially within a lumen of the stent. During deployment of the stent, the stent makes contact with the stop.

A integral vascular filter system comprising a guidewire and an integral filter which can be used to capture embolic particulates during medical procedures, while allowing for continuous perfusion of blood, with minimal incremental blood flow turbulence. The vascular filter system addresses the clinical problem of minimizing profile or diameter, so as to enable or facilitate the crossing of a lesion or obstruction in the vessel, while also minimizing incremental blood flow turbulence which may result in thrombus formation.

Integral vascular filter system

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a delivery apparatus for a self-expanding stent. The apparatus has an outer sheath which is an elongated tubular member with distal and proximal ends and inside and outside diameters. The outer sheath has an enlarged section adjacent its distal end. The enlarged section has a greater inside and outside diameter than the inside and outside diameter of the sheath proximal to the enlarged section. The apparatus also includes an inner shaft located coaxially within the outer sheath. The shaft has a distal end and a proximal end. The shaft further includes a stop attached thereto which is proximal to the distal end of the sheath. Lastly, the apparatus includes a self-expanding stent located within the enlarged section of the outer sheath and makes frictional contact with the outer sheath. The shaft is disposed coaxially within a lumen of the stent, whereby the stent makes contact with the stop during deployment.

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a delivery apparatus for a self-expanding stent. The apparatus includes an outer sheath, which is an elongated tubular member having distal and proximal ends. The outer sheath is made from an outer polymeric layer, an inner polymeric layer, and a braided reinforcing layer between the inner and outer layers. The reinforcing layer is more rigid than the inner and outer layers. The apparatus further includes an inner shaft located coaxially within the outer sheath. The shaft has a distal end, extending distal to the distal end of the sheath, and a proximal end, extending proximal to the proximal end of the sheath. The shaft further includes a stop attached thereto. The stop is proximal to the distal end of the sheath. Lastly, the apparatus includes a self-expanding stent located within the sheath. The stent makes frictional contact with the inner layer of the sheath. The stent is located between the stop and the distal end of the sheath, with a portion of the shaft disposed coaxially within a lumen of the stent. The stent makes contact with the stop during deployment of the stent.
