A walk-behind power unit is configured to detachably mount a counter-rotating powered drum work implement on a centrally pivoted implement carrier. The pivoting of the implement carrier from a central position to either side causes the discharge of the powered drum to be located on a desired side of the work implement. The work implement can also be positioned to discharge forwardly from the powered drum member. A lift apparatus is provided to be cooperable with an associated set of support wheels to affect the positioning of the powered drum member between a lowered operative position and a raised transport position. The powered, counter-rotating drum member can be either a rotatable broom or a power rake. In the broom configuration, the lift apparatus can move the lid member, after first unlatching the lid member from the frame of the work implement, to fix the lid in an opened position.

Walk-behind implement with counter-rotating attachment

A walk-behind power unit is configured to detachably mount a variety of work implements to perform a corresponding variety of operations from a single power unit. The power unit includes an implement mounting mechanism that is pivotable about a generally vertical pivot axis corresponding to the power output shaft of the engine on the power unit. An attached work implement can be moved laterally to change the operating characteristics through pivoting the implement to either side of a normal direction of travel. An landscape edger implement can be mounted so that the width of cut of the cutting disk is varied as the edger implement is pivoted. A mower implement can be attached so that the cutting path of the mower blade is offset laterally as the implement is pivoted, thus permitting the mower to mow around obstacles offset to the side of the direction of travel.

Variable angle powered work implement

A walk-behind trenching implement has a side mounted rotary trenching tool for creating a profiled trench into the surface of the earth, which can also be used as an implement to edge landscape beds. The trenching implement is powered by an engine that delivers rotational power in an unbalanced manner to the wheel adjacent to the rotatable trenching tool. The wheel opposite to the trenching tool is can be non-powered to freely rotate as the implement is moved across the surface of the ground, or braked to unbalance power delivery through a differential. This unbalanced propulsion drive induces a skewing action into the operation of the implement that counterbalances the opposite skewing action resulting from the operation of the trenching tool to provide a more smoothly operating implement. A trenching tool having a configuration conducive to profile modification allows flexibility in the desired shape of the trench being formed.

Walk-behind landscape edger/trencher

The invention consists of an engine driving a wet clutch and hydrostatic pump and connected hydrostatic motor. The output of the motor drives the sun gear of a hydro-mechanical planetary drive and the output of the clutch drives the ring gear of the same drive. The carrier is the output and drives the rotors of an agricultural combine. The transmission is controlled by a microcomputer. The microcomputer receives signals from an engine speed sensor and a rotor speed sensor and transmits controlling signals to the hydrostatic pump's swash plate and to a clutch valve allowing a quantity of hydraulic fluid to enter the clutch. The microcomputer can also send a signal to brake the ring gear while reversing the direction of the hydrostatic pump motor to allow act as a reverser for the rotor. The microcomputer also can receive signals from the rotor speed sensor to open the clutch valve allowing a quantity of hydraulic fluid to enter and synchronize the clutch. This allows the clutch to slowly begin to rotate the rotors will at the same time limit damage to the clutch.

Hydro-mechanical transmission system for an agricultural combine

A rear hinged pivotable hood for enclosing a tractor engine is disclosed wherein a hinge member pivotally mounts the hood to the tractor chassis for movement about a generally horizontal, transverse hinge access between a closed position in which the engine is inaccessibly covered and an opened position in which the engine is accessible. The engine hood includes a primary hood member that is pivotally movable about the hinge axis and a fixed portion that includes a pair of laterally spaced daily access doors pivotally mounted for outward movement to gain access to preselected frequently accessed service components of the engine. The lateral width of the primary hood member is substantially greater that the lateral spacing of the daily access doors so that the operator may have greater visibility of the position where said front tires engage the ground.

Split engine hood for tractors

A movable control console for an agricultural tractor is disclosed wherein the console is movable independently of the operator's seat to position the operative controls at the convenience of the operator. The orientation of the console is controlled by a guide assembly supported from the tractor chassis. The guide assembly is provided with non-linear slots cooperable with guide members on the console to rotate the console clockwise as it is moved rearwardly to mimic the rotation of the operator's seat to an implement operating position. Fore-and-aft movement of the console is effected by an electric actuator controlled through a switch mounted on the console.

Independently movable control console for tractors

A shiftable control console for an agricultural tractor is disclosed wherein the console is movable independently of the operator's seat to position the operative controls at the convenience of the operator. The console is mounted on pivoted linkages that are oriented to rotate the console clockwise as it is moved rearwardly to mimic the rotation of the operator's seat to an implement operating position. Fore-and-aft movement of the console is effected by an electric actuator controlled through a switch mounted on the console.
