Disclosed are four gel compositions that have improved properties over the prior art. These gels include elastosols, solid rubbery gels, UV cured gels and chemically cured gels. The gels are formed from selectively hydrogenated styrene/diene block copolymers, unhydrogenated styrene/diene block copolymers, and selectively hydrogenated styrene/diene block copolymers that have been maleated.

Gel compositions

The present invention relates to oil gel compositions that include at least one non-aromatic ester oil and an anionic block copolymer of a mono alkenyl arene and a conjugated diene. The block copolymer is selectively hydrogenated and has mono alkenyl arene end blocks and a controlled distribution block of a mono alkenyl arene and a conjugated diene midblock. The ester oil is a non-aromatic, ester compound such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil, and other like compounds.

Oil gels of controlled distribution block copolymers and ester oils

A polymeric viscosity index improver that includes a hydrogenated block copolymer having at least one controlled distribution block copolymer having a minimized crystallinity is provided. An oil composition including at least a base oil and the aforementioned viscosity index improver is also provided. A polymeric concentrate including the aforementioned viscosity index improver is further provided.

The present invention relates to gels prepared from novel anionic block copolymers of aromatic vinyl compounds and conjugated dienes. The block copolymers include a high molecular weight linear and/or radial block copolymer component (SBC1 and/or SBC2), and a diblock component (E1). The block copolymer may be combined with tackifying resins, oils and other components to form the gels of the present invention.

Gels from high molecular weight block copolymers

The present invention relates to pressure sensitive adhesive compositions prepared from novel anionic block copolymers of aromatic vinyl compounds and conjugated dienes. The block copolymers are a mixture of a high molecular weight linear and/or radial block copolymer component (SBC1 and/or SBC2), and a diblock copolymer component (D1). The block copolymer may be combined with other block copolymers, tackifying resins, oils and other components to form the adhesives of the present invention. The pressure sensitive adhesives of the present invention maintain their performance at elevated temperatures and fail cohesively making them particularly useful for die-cuttable label applications. The pressure sensitive adhesives compositions may also comprise ester plasticizers typically used for PVC and thus make adhesives particularly suitable for PVC film labels and decals.

Pressure sensitive adhesives from high molecular weight block copolymers having a high fraction of diblock copolymer

The present invention relates to photocurable compositions for use in flexographic printing plates comprising selectively hydrogenated block copolymers of conjugated dienes and monoalkenyl arenes and flexographic printing plates made from the same. The block copolymers, either linear or radial, have terminal blocks of unsaturated conjugated diene. The block copolymer is further comprised of monoalkenyl arene blocks and hydrogenated conjugated diene blocks. The compositions exhibit exceptional improvement in degree of cure over comparative selectively hydrogenated block copolymers.

Photocurable compositions and flexographic printing plates comprising the same

Hydrogenated butadiene polymers having terminal functional groups have minimum viscosity at any molecular weight when the 1,2-addition is between 30% and 70% Hydrogenated butadiene polymers having about two terminal hydroxyl groups per molecule have surprisingly lower viscosities at 30% to 70% 1,2-addition than similar polymers having either higher or lower amounts of 1,2-addition. The polymers are useful in making coatings, sealants, binders, and block copolymers with polyesters, polyamides, and polycarbonates.

The present invention relates to adhesives and sealants prepared from novel anionic block copolymers of mono alkenyl arenes and conjugated dienes, and to blends of such block copolymers with other polymers. The block copolymers are selectively hydrogenated and have mono alkenyl arene end blocks and controlled distribution blocks of mono alkenyl arenes and conjugated dienes. The block copolymer may be combined with tackifying resins, oils and other components to form the adhesives and sealants of the present invention.

Adhesives and sealants from controlled distribution block copolymers

In one embodiment, this invention provides a composition comprising a functionalized block copolymer crosslinked with acetylacetonate. The crosslinked block copolymer has improved solvent resistance and improved cohesive strength at high temperatures. The crosslinked block copolymer comprises preferably an acid functionalized, hydrogenated block copolymer having an ABA or similar structure wherein the block comprises at least 80 wt % of a vinyl-aromatic hydrocarbon, preferably styrene, and wherein the B block comprises at least 80 wt % of a hydrogenated and conjugated diene, preferably butadiene, isoprene or a mixture thereof. In another embodiment, this invention provides an adhesive, sealant, oil gel, asphalt composition, or wax composition comprising the acid functionalized, hydrogenated block copolymer.

Monohydroxylated diene polymers and epoxidized derivatives thereof

This invention provides a process for producing a polyurethane resin from a hydrogenated polydiene diol or polyol having a functional group equivalent weight of 750 to 10000, a reinforcing agent having a functional group equivalent weight of 30 to 200, and a polyisocyanate. In a preferred embodiment, the process comprises reacting at least one of a polydiene diol or a reinforcing diol or triol with the polyisocyanate at an NCO/functional group molar ratio of 0.4 to 0.7 or a functional group/NCO molar ratio of 0.25 to 0.55 to form a stable reaction product, adding to this reaction product an additional sufficient amount of the polyisocyanate and, as needed, one or both of the polydiene diol or the reinforcing agent to bring the NCO/functional group ratio up to from 0.9 to 1.1 and to achieve a polydiene diol content of 35 to 80%w (on solids basis) and a reinforcing agent content of 2 to 17%w (on solids basis), and reacting this final mixture to form a crosslinked polyurethane product. This process can also be carried out at an OH/NCO ratio of 0.9 to 1.1 using a blocked polyisocyanate wherein the intermediate reaction product is a stable polyurethane resin.
