The present invention is directed to an insert for a cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine. The cylinder head gasket may be made from metal, a composite material, or a combination of the two, and is disposed between a cylinder head and a cylinder block. The insert has an outer plate having upper and lower surfaces, an outer perimeter and a closed inner perimeter. A removable molded insert is located within the closed inner perimeter of the outer plate. The removable molded insert has a bead portion and an inner land portion. A metallic carrier is substantially enclosed within the bead portion and planar portion of the removable molded insert. The removable molded insert may be attached to the outer plate by mechanical or chemical means. The insert may be attached to a cylinder head gasket by mechanical means.

The present invention relates to a multi-layer steel insert for a cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine comprising. The cylinder head gasket may be made from metal or a composite material, and is disposed between a cylinder head and a cylinder block. The MLS insert may be located around at least one fluid passage aperture. The MLS insert has a first outside layer and a second outside layer each comprising an upper surface and a lower surface, an outer perimeter, an inner closed perimeter defining a fluid aperture, and a bead. The beads may be half beads or whole beads. An intermediate layer is arranged between the outside layers and includes an upper surface and a lower surface, an outer perimeter and an inner closed perimeter defining a fluid aperture. The MLS insert may be attached to the cylinder head gasket by mechanical or chemical means.

Multi-layer steel insert for gaskets

An exhaust manifold gasket having at least two layers and a series of tabs and recesses. The gasket has a first outer layer and a second outer layer each with an outer surface, an inner surface, two bolt hole flanges, and a central aperture. The surfaces are bounded by an outer perimeter portion, with locator tabs and recesses. A first inner layer having an outer surface, an inner surface, two bolt hole flanges, and a central aperture. The surfaces are bounded by an outer perimeter portion with two sets of foldable tabs. The first inner layer also has a bead circumferentially around the central aperture. A second inner layer may be provided having an outer surface, an inner surface, two bolt hole flanges, and a central aperture. The surfaces are bounded by an outer perimeter portion with foldable tabs and recesses, and a bead circumferentially around the central aperture.

Exhaust manifold gasket

A gasket has a first active layer with a bead. A first spacer layer is located below the first active layer. An intermediate layer is provided with a wave portion. The intermediate layer is located below the first spacer layer. A bottom spacer layer is located beneath the intermediate layer. The bottom spacer may have a bead.

Gasket with engine liner accomodation

A valve cover is described that is secured to a component of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The valve cover includes a cover body having a plurality of walls defining an inner cavity and a ventilation system having a periphery. The ventilation system is at least partially disposed inside the inner cavity. A seal is molded between the cover body and the ventilation system for securing the ventilation system to the cover body.

A manifold anti-rotation system for engines includes a manifold having an end for interfacing with a manifold interface portion of an engine cylinder head, and a mounting collar. The manifold includes a protrusion extending from a periphery of the manifold end. The mounting collar comprises a collar body having a central aperture defined by an aperture wall wherein the aperture receives the manifold end therein. The mounting collar further includes a projection extending from a top surface thereof. The manifold protrusion and the collar projection are positioned to abut one another to prevent the manifold from rotating with respect to the mounting collar beyond the manifold protrusion.

Cast-in-anti-rotation feature for engine components subject to movement

A high temperature gasket assembly comprises a plurality of identical symmetrically shaped plates with holes offset from a centerline of each plate. The plates are rotated or flipped into an orientation with the outer periphery of each plate in alignment and the holes in a first plate are skewed with respect to mating holes in a second plate. As a result, a portion of an inner periphery of each hole is in facing relation with an inner face of the other plate. The resulting aperture defines an interference orientation with a diameter greater than a minor thread diameter and less than a major thread diameter of a mating fastener. Thus, the fastener is retained within the aperture without undesirable separation.

In a sealing gasket, multiple metallic gasket layers are interlocked together by cooperating self-aligning gripping members that mesh together. First and second gasket layers each have an engagement surface, a sealing surface and an aperture therethrough. Each engagement surface has disposed thereon a plurality of gripping members extending radially outwardly from a periphery of the apertures. The engagement surfaces of the first and second gasket layers are brought into face-to-face engagement such that the gripping members of the first gasket layer mesh together with the gripping members of the second layer to maintain the proper alignment of the first and second gasket layers and prevent lateral movement of the gasket layers with respect to one another.

A snap-lock attachment element for connecting a multi-layered gasket having at least two metallic gasket layers together in a sealing gasket is disclosed. A first gasket layer includes an aperture with at least two fingers extending radially inwardly. A second gasket layer includes a second aperture having a supporting member with slots therein. The first gasket layer is pressed onto the second layer such that the fingers engage the slots of the second gasket layer in snap-lock engagement.

Snap-lock attachment element for laminating multiple gasket layers and method of using same

An insulator gasket is disclosed having gasket sections folded toward each other to form an angled gap of 1-15 degrees. Openings in the gasket sections are partially aligned and allow passage of fastener devices during assembly. The gasket includes a composite construction having a metallic backing plate connected to an insulator layer. The present invention utilizes either a continuous hinge or spaced apart straps.

Insulated heat exhaust gasket

A dual purpose, multi-layered steel intake/exhaust manifold gasket is constructed from a rubber coated embossed single-layer intake manifold gasket attached to an uncoated embossed double-layer exhaust manifold gasket. The gaskets overlap at several discontinuous locations along a common edge by sandwiching the single layer intake manifold gasket between the two layers of the exhaust manifold gasket. Holes are provided in the rubber coated single layer at some of the overlapping locations to allow the two layers of the exhaust manifold gaskets to contact and be fastened together. An air gap is left between the two gaskets except for the areas of overlap to control heat transfer between the gaskets.

Multi-layered steel, dual-purpose intake/exhaust gasket

A gasket insert including a carrier having at least two retaining arms. The retaining arms are adapted to contact opposing faces of a gasket material to form a mechanical means of fastening the gasket insert to a gasket body. Also disclosed is a method of making a gasket insert including forming a carrier body from a steel stamping and folding the steel stamping upon itself to create a double layered carrier body. The carrier body is fitted with retaining arms for gripping the gasket body and is fitted with a plurality of passages for filling with sealing material and forming a positive means of mechanically bonding sealing material to the carrier body.

Gasket insert

An improved gasket insert assembly for use in a gasket that is adapted to seal a high pressure fluid opening includes a gasket body with opposed upper and lower faces, and an opening defined by an inner periphery of the gasket body. A sealing member is positioned within the opening of the gasket body by means of plurality of integral tabs extending radially outwardly from an outer periphery of the sealing member. A tab pair is formed by two of the tabs being in close circumferential proximity and a plurality of tab pairs are circumferentially spaced about the outer periphery of the sealing member. The tabs of each tab pair are compressed into opposing faces of the gasket body such than an outer face of the tabs is flush with an outer face of the gasket body to transversely center the sealing member within the gasket opening. A compressible laminate is bonded to the sealing member to improve sealing.
