In a communication system, a communication unit may access increased information in the following manner. The communication unit transmits an information access request to the communication resource allocator of the communication system, wherein the information access request comprises a selection of pre-established information for that communication unit. Upon receiving the information access request, the communication resource allocator retrieves pre-established information based upon the request and transmits it to the communication unit. The communication unit temporarily stores the pre-established information and executes a system service based upon the retrieved pre-established information.

Method for a communication unit to access and utilize information from

A method is disclosed, and an apparatus described, for providing a console display indicating the incompatibility of a subscriber with a talk group in an RF communication system. The console provides a first display as long as the system detects no subscriber incompatibility with a talk group. When the system determines the subscriber is incompatible with a talk group, however, the console provides a second display which is graphically distinct from the first display. The second display is further arranged so the incompatible subscriber can readily be identified.

A method and apparatus for operator messaging within a radio communication system (200) using a resource controller (203), which allocates a plurality of communication resources among a plurality of communication units (213, 215), is disclosed. Each of these communication units may be used by an operator having an operator code (262) and associated with a message (264, 266). This operator code and message, along with identification codes (252) representing each of the plurality of communication resources, are stored in a database (201) within the resource controller (203). The method includes the transmitting of the identification (ID) associated with a transmitting communication unit, matching this ID with one of the stored identification codes (252) in the database (201), and using this code to retrieve the message (254, 256) associated with the operator of this communication unit. This message is then sent, via sub-audible signals on the allocated communication resource, to at least one receiving communication unit (213, 215), which then displays (374) this message to be read by the receiving operator.

Method and apparatus for operator messaging using voice channel

In a multiple RF communication system arrangement wherein a subscriber has a first identification number (ID) within a first RF communication system, and wherein the subscriber has a second ID within a second RF communication system, an arrangement (400) is provided for the subscriber to uniquely identify itself by means of a third ID to a console serving both the first and second RF communication systems.
