An example system includes a first lead configured to be positioned in or beside a left internal jugular vein (IJV) of a patient to deliver a first stimulation signal to a first vagus nerve, the first lead including one or more first segmented electrodes positioned on a distal portion of the first lead and a first anchoring mechanism; a second lead configured to be positioned in or beside a right IJV of the patient to deliver a second stimulation signal to a second vagus nerve, the second lead including one or more second segmented electrodes positioned on a distal portion of the second lead and a second anchoring mechanism; and circuitry configured to deliver electrical energy to the first lead to deliver the first stimulation signal and the second lead to deliver the second stimulation signal to provide bilateral stimulation to the first vagus nerve and the second vagus nerve.

A system for detecting strokes includes a sensor device configured to obtain physiological data from a patient, for example brain activity data. The sensor device can include electrodes configured to be disposed at the back of the patient's neck or base of the skull. The electrodes can detect electrical signals corresponding to brain activity in the P3, Pz, and/or P4 brain regions or other brain regions. A computing device communicatively coupled to the sensor device is configured to receive the physiological data and analyze it to indicate whether the patient has suffered a stroke.

A medical system for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment includes therapy delivery circuitry configured to output one or more electrical stimulation signals to a tongue of a patient; sensing circuitry configured to sense one or more compound muscle action potential (CMAP) signals, wherein the one or more CMAP signals are generated in response to the delivery of the one or more electrical stimulation signals; and processing circuitry configured to: cause the therapy delivery circuitry to output the one or more electrical stimulation signals to the tongue; receive information indicative of the one or more CMAP signals from the sensing circuitry; determine, based on the one or more CMAP signals, one or more therapeutic stimulation parameters for the OSA treatment; and cause the therapy delivery circuitry to deliver therapeutic electrical stimulation signals according to at least the determined one or more therapeutic stimulation parameters.

In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body defining an injection lumen, a drainage lumen, and an inflation lumen. The elongated body includes an anchoring member positioned on a proximal portion of the elongated body. A sensor is positioned on a distal portion of the elongated body or distal to a distal end of the elongated body. The medical device includes an active valve positioned in or about the drainage lumen The active valve is configured to move between a closed state in which, when a proximal end of the elongated body is positioned in a bladder of a patient, the active valve is configured to retain fluid in the bladder, and an open state in which the active valve enables drainage of fluid from the bladder via the drainage lumen.

An example device includes processing circuitry configured to receive, from an oxygen sensor, an ambient air signal indicative of an oxygen partial pressure of ambient air. The processing circuitry is further configured to receive, from an atmospheric pressure sensor, an atmospheric pressure sensor signal indicative of atmospheric pressure. The processing circuitry is configured to determine, based on the atmospheric pressure sensor signal, an oxygen partial pressure of the ambient air, determine, based at least in part on the oxygen partial pressure of the ambient air and the ambient air signal, the one or more calibration parameters, and calibrate, based on the one or more calibration parameters, the oxygen sensor. The calibrated oxygen sensor may be used to, for example, determine the oxygen content of urine of a patient to monitor renal function of the patient.

In one example, the disclosure relates to a catheter system comprising an elongated body defining a lumen. The elongated body comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion. An anchoring member is positioned on the proximal portion of the elongated body. The anchoring member configured to anchor the proximal portion of the elongated body to a patient. The catheter system includes one or more sensors positioned on the elongated body. The one or more sensors are configured to sense a parameter of a fluid within the lumen of the elongated body. The catheter system includes memory positioned on the elongated body, the memory configured to store patient-specific information.

In one example, a system includes an elongated body defining a lumen where the elongated body includes a proximal portion and a distal portion. An anchoring member may be positioned on the proximal portion of the elongated body. The system further includes a sensor located on the elongated body where the sensor may be configured to sense at least one flow parameter of a fluid within the lumen. In some examples, the system includes processing circuitry configured to determine at least one of a density parameter or a temperature parameter of the fluid in the lumen based on the sensed at least one flow parameter of the fluid.

In some examples, a medical device includes an elongated body defining an inner lumen. The medical device further includes an anchoring member and a first sensor at a proximal portion of the elongated body, and a second sensor at a distal portion of the elongated body or distal to a distal end of the elongated body. The second sensor is configured to sense a substance of interest and the elongated body comprises a material that is a substantially non-permeable to the substance of interest.

At least some of the example embodiments are methods including: pumping surgical fluid through a tube to a surgical site by a fluid controller operating in a first mode, the first mode comprising a first relationship of fluid flow and pressure drop across the tube and cannula, and the first mode comprising a first set of proportional, integral, and differential (PID) parameters; and then pumping surgical fluid through the tube to the surgical site with the fluid controller operating in a second mode, the second mode comprising a second relationship of fluid flow and pressure drop across the tube and cannula, the second relationship different than the first relationship, and the second mode comprising a second set of PID parameters used, the second set of PID parameters different than the first set of PID parameters.

At least some of the example embodiments are methods including: receiving an indication of a first rotational mode of a mechanical resection instrument coupled to a motor of a motor drive unit (MDU); controlling rotation of the rotating portion of the mechanical resection instrument by controlling the motor, the controlling in conformance with the indication of the first rotational mode; setting a first outflow rate through the mechanical resection instrument based on the indication of the first rotational mode; drawing fluid through the mechanical resection instrument at the first outflow rate during a surgical procedure, the drawing by way of the pump controlled by the controller; sensing a parameter indicative of resection by the mechanical resection instrument; and changing a rate at which fluid is drawn through the mechanical resection instrument, the changing relative to the first outflow rate.

An endoscopic tissue grasper device includes a flexible tubular member, a flexible shaft extending through the tubular member, a proximal handle for moving the shaft and tubular member relative to each other, and a distal helical coil having a sharpened end for engaging tissue. The tissue grasper is advanced through a working channel of an endoscope, engaged relative to tissue, and retracted to pull tissue into a path of a movable needle coupled at a distal end of the endoscope so that the needle can be passed through the tissue. The needle is preferably provided with a suture so that as the needle is passed through the tissue a stitch is formed.

Endoscopic tissue grasping systems and methods

A method comprising sealing a vessel residing within tissue between jaws of forceps by sensing an amount of tissue held within the forceps, the sensing by passing electrical current through the tissue by way of the forceps. The method comprises heating the tissue using electrical current, the heating such that impedance of the tissue changes at a first predetermined rate, the first predetermined rate selected based on the sensing. The method comprises desiccating the tissue using electrical current, such that the impedance of the tissue changes at a second predetermined rate different than the first predetermined rate. The method comprises ceasing application of the electrical current to the tissue when impedance of the tissue reaches a predetermined value. Sensing the amount of tissue held within the forceps comprises varying electrical current flowing through the tissue through the forceps such that impedance of the tissue changes at a third predetermined rate.

Vessel sealing algorithm and modes

Instruments and methods are provided for performing submucosal medical procedures in a desired area of the digestive tract using endoscopy. The instruments include a mucosal resection device, a tissue grasper and a snare. Systems include a combination of one or more of such instruments. Embodiments of various methods for performing the procedures are also provided.

Tissue resection device

An endoscopic tissue grasper device includes a flexible tubular member, a flexible shaft extending through the tubular member, a proximal handle for moving the shaft and tubular member relative to each other, and a distal helical coil having a sharpened end for engaging tissue. The helical coil has a proximal close wound portion, a distal open wound portion, and an intermediate transition portion between the proximal and distal portions. The flexible shaft extends into the proximal and intermediate portions and is secured thereto, which prevents tissue engaged by the helical coil from becoming wedged in the transition portion and thereby facilitates release of the coil from engaged tissue. In addition, a bearing sheath is provided between the shaft and tubular member to prevent the shaft from binding during operation.
