A device is provided that includes: a substrate including dielectric material and a conductive via extending into the substrate from a surface of the substrate. The device further includes a conductive pad positioned at the surface of the substrate and offset in a plane of the surface from the conductive via, the conductive pad to receive a solder joint connection to an electronic component. The conductive pad includes a concave edge that defines a gap with a convex edge of the conductive via.

An indirect haptic device includes a substrate having a top surface and a bottom surface, and a plurality of haptic electrodes and a plurality of island electrodes arranged on the top surface. The device further includes a plurality of transmit electrodes and a plurality of receive electrodes arranged on the bottom surface, a position sensor, and a friction modulator. The device further includes a control device configured to apply bipolar electrical signals to the plurality of transmit electrodes to detect touch locations of a user's appendage and to modulate the friction between the user's appendage and the touch surface. Each of the plurality of haptic electrodes are substantially aligned with and capacitively coupled to a corresponding two of the plurality of transmit electrodes.

A haptic interface unit may include an application in the operating system of a device in communication with a driver layer. A plurality of sensors and actuators may be in communication with the driver layer. The driver layer analyzes information from the sensors to generate an output signal based on an interaction model stored in the driver layer. The application updates the interaction model in the driver layer.

Interfaces and methods of digital composition and editing of textures for rendering on tactile surfaces

A method and apparatus are described for providing an acoustically-resistive air-permeable venting structure within a sealed microphone acoustic cavity. A microphone is mounted on a printed circuit board and positioned within a housing. A water-resistant membrane seals the microphone from an exterior of the housing, and a active acoustic cavity establishes an acoustical connection between the water-resistant membrane and the microphone. An acoustically-resistive air-permeable venting structure is formed in the body of the printed circuit board and connects to the active acoustic cavity either directly or via a separate vent path. The venting structure provides a viscous dampening effect by venting an active acoustic cavity of the electronic device to the rest of the enclosure sealed by the water-resistant membrane.

Internal vent structure for waterproof microphone acoustic cavity

An automated tri-fold bed includes a bed frame, a mattress support that is pivotable between a horizontal configuration and a mattress folding configuration, and a mechanism for pivoting the mattress support about a transversely centered longitudinal pivot axis. The pivoting mechanism includes an actuating arm attached to the mattress support and an actuator for moving the actuating arm to pivot the mattress support. A mechanism is also provided for folding at least one end of the mattress support about a transverse axis to permit raising of one end of a mattress on the mattress support.

Automated tri-fold bed

A patient-handling apparatus includes an upright post having a top end and a support arm having an inner end adjacent to the upright post and an outer end away from the upright post. The support arm is coupled to the top end of the post about a pivot point to permit movement of the support arm relative to the post between a cantilevered position at an angle to the post and a stored position alongside the post and to permit movement of the support arm relative to the pivot point during movement of the support arm between the cantilevered and stored positions. A mechanism is provided for suspending a patient in the air from the support arm following movement of the support arm to its cantilevered position so that a patient can be moved from one place to another along the support arm between the inner and outer ends of the support arm.
