Disclosed is an aqueous ink composition comprising an aqueous liquid vehicle, a colorant, and an additive wherein, when the ink has been applied to a recording substrate in an image pattern and a substantial amount of the aqueous liquid vehicle has either evaporated from the ink image, hydrogen bonds of sufficient strength exist between the additive molecules so that the additive forms hydrogen-bonded oligomers or polymers.

Aqueous ink compositions

A process comprising incorporating into an ink jet printing apparatus a developing composition; an oxidizing composition a coloring composition; and a fixing composition; ejecting droplets of the developing composition onto the substrate; ejecting droplets of the oxidizing composition onto the substrate; ejecting droplets of the coloring composition onto the substrate; and ejecting droplets of the fixing composition onto the substrate; wherein the process results in at least some portions of the substrate bearing images comprising all four compositions, the portions forming a printed image. Specific embodiments are directed to the realization of continuous tone and gray scale in image by control of the time at which color forming reactions are quenched by controlling the lime period between deposition of the color forming liquids and deposition of the fixing liquid; or control of the extent of color forming reactions by limitation of the quantity of one of the color forming liquids.

Ink jet printing process

A composition comprised of a composite comprised of an aromatic or heteroaromatic polymer comprised of monomer or monomers selected from the group consisting of pyrrole, indole, thiophene, thianaphthene, indene, azulene and ring pendant substitutent derivatives thereof as a discrete phase; and a block copolymer as a continuous phase selected from the group consisting of ionophoric and ionomeric copolymers, wherein the block copolymer has at least one apolar segment and at least one ion binding segment, wherein the ionomeric or ionophoric block copolymer is present in an amount from about 99 to about 50 percent by weight based on the combined weight of the block copolymer and the aromatic or heteroaromatic polymer, wherein the block copolymer provides micellar or vesicular domains for organization and polymerization of the monomer or monomers.

Conductive polymeric composites, articles and processes for the preparation thereof

A process comprising (a) incorporating into an ink jet printing apparatus (1) a developing composition comprising a liquid vehicle and a color developer; (2) an oxidizing composition comprising a liquid vehicle and an oxidizing agent; (3) a coloring composition comprising a liquid vehicle and a dye coupler; and (4) a fixing composition comprising a liquid vehicle and a fixative; (b) causing droplets of the developing composition to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto the substrate; (c) causing droplets of the oxidizing composition to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto the substrate; (d) causing droplets of the coloring composition to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto the substrate; and (e) causing droplets of the fixing composition to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto the substrate; wherein the process results in at least some portions of the substrate bearing images comprising all four of the developing composition, the oxidizing composition, the coloring composition, and the fixing composition, said portions forming a printed image. Specific embodiments of the present invention are directed to the realization of continuous tone and gray scale in images by (1) control of the time at which color forming reactions are quenched by controlling the time period between deposition of the color forming liquids and deposition of the fixing liquid; (2) control of the extent of color forming reactions by limitation of the quantity of one of the color forming liquids; or (3) control of pixel size by drop placement control over the overlap areas of drops of color forming liquids.

Disclosed is a process for bonding a first article to a second article which comprises (a) providing a first article comprising a polymer having photosensitivity-imparting substituents; (b) providing a second article comprising metal, plasma nitride, silicon, or glass; (c) applying to at least one of the first article and the second article an adhesion promoter selected from silanes, titanates, or zirconates having (i) alkoxy, aryloxy, or arylalkyloxy functional groups and (ii) functional groups including at least one photosensitive aliphatic >C&boxH;C< linkage; (d) placing the first article in contact with the second article; and (e) exposing the first article, second article, and adhesion promoter to radiation, thereby bonding the first article to the second article with the adhesion promote. In one embodiment of the present invention, the adhesion promoter is employed in microelectrical mechanical systems such as thermal ink jet printheads.

Bonding process

Disclosed is a composition comprising a polymer with a weight average molecular weight of from about 1,000 to about 100,000, said polymer containing at least some monomer repeat units with a first, photosensitivity-imparting substituent which enables crosslinking or chain extension of the polymer upon exposure to actinic radiation, said polymer also containing a second, thermal sensitivity-imparting substituent which enables further crosslinking or chain extension of the polymer upon exposure to temperatures of about 140&deg; C. and higher, wherein the first substituent is not the same as the second substituent, said polymer being selected from the group consisting of polysulfones, polyphenylenes, polyether sulfones, polyimides, polyamide imides, polyarylene ethers, polyphenylene sulfides, polyarylene ether ketones, phenoxy resins, polycarbonates, polyether imides, polyquinoxalines, polyquinolines, polybenzimidazoles, polybenzoxazoles, polybenzothiazoles, polyoxadiazoles, copolymers thereof, and mixtures thereof.

High performance UV and heat crosslinked or chain extended polymers

Disclosed is a process which comprises (a) applying to a substrate a fixing fluid which comprises a material selected from the group consisting of (1) block or graft copolymers of dialkylsiloxanes and polar, hydrophilic monomers capable of interacting with an ink colorant to cause the colorant to become complexed, laked, or mordanted, (2) organopolysiloxane copolymers having functional side groups capable of interacting with an ink colorant to cause the colorant to become complexed, laked, or mordanted, (3) perfluorinated polyalkoxy polymers, (4) perfluoroalkyl surfactants having thereon at least one group capable of interacting with an ink colorant to cause the colorant to become complexed, laked, or mordanted, and (5) mixtures thereof; (b) incorporating into an ink jet printing apparatus an ink composition which comprises water and a colorant which becomes complexed, laked, or mordanted upon contacting the fixing fluid; and (c) causing droplets of the ink composition to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto the substrate.

Ink jet printing process with improved image fixation
