A ribbon port burner for a gas range comprises a base defining a gas inlet portion and a gas plenum portion. The gas plenum is defined by a bottom wall portion which terminates at its outer periphery in generally vertical outer side walls. The burner also includes a cap which is positioned in fixed spaced relation to the bottom wall such that the cap forms an upper wall of gas plenum portion. In this position the cap's relation to the side walls defines a ribbon port of essentially constant cross-sectional area continuously around the periphery of the burner. The burner also includes an ignition port in the bottom wall for accommodating insertion of an ignition system within the plenum. Preferably, a gas ignition portion is defined within the gas plenum portion defining a segregated volume. The burner side walls terminate in an acutely angled surface, as does the outer portion of the lower surface of the cap, such that an essentially constant cross sectional area is maintained to form the ribbon port. The base may also include a central chimney which mates with a like chimney in the cap to form an isolated central passage through plenum portion.

Ribbon port burner for gas range

A cast aluminum burner base has a tubular inlet communicating with a cavity formed in an enlarged diameter flange remote from the inlet. The cavity is closed by a cast aluminum cap registered against the base. The base and cap are each castellated along the parting line such that the castellations are interdigitated. Grooves having semi-circular cross sections and formed radially across the castellations and the spaces between and close on the parting line to form circular cross section primary flame-generating ports. The castellations on the cap are truncated and tapered to provide flame stabilizing passages adjacent alternate flame-generating ports.

Gaseous fuel burner and method of making same

A method of manufacturing a burner cap for a gas range includes the steps of providing an amount of non-porous aluminum and forming the aluminum into the shape of a burner cap such that the non-porous nature of the aluminum is maintained. In one embodiment, the non-porous aluminum is a slug at ambient temperature which is placed in a die and slowly forced into a die by an advancing a ram to form the burner cap. In another embodiment, the non-porous aluminum slug is machined to form the burner cap.

Method of manufacturing an aluminum burner cap

An ignition apparatus for a gaseous fuel burner having two areas of gaseous fuel discharge comprises a primary electrode positioned within a first area of gaseous fuel discharge and a secondary electrode having a first end positioned within the first area in close proximity to the primary electrode defining a jump gap, and a second end within a second area in proximity to the burner to form a ground spark gap. The burner has an outer and an inner periphery ignition area forming a torres shaped, or donut-like, burner separated by a gaseous fuel plenum through which the secondary electrode penetrates. The primary electrode may be mounted within the inner or outer periphery ignition area. A method of creating a dual point electric spark to ignite gaseous fuel at two separate areas within a dual port gas burner comprises grounding the burner, forming a series electric circuit which passes through the two separate ignition areas from a source of high voltage electric power to the burner, providing a jump gap within one of the separate ignition areas, and a ground spark gap in the other, and energizing the series electric circuit.

Method and apparatus for generating dual point top burner spark for gas

A surface gas burner assembly for a gas range comprises a circular burner base having a gas inlet portion, a gas plenum portion, and a gas port portion. The gas port portion comprises a raised wall around an outer periphery of the base having a top surface. A wave washer port ring having an upper surface and a lower surface is also included. This upper surface comprises a upper mounting surfaces defining a plurality of upper gas port channels. The lower surface comprises lower mounting surfaces also defining a plurality of lower gas port channels. A circular burner cap has a raised wall around its outer periphery which includes a bottom surface. The lower mounting surfaces of the wave washer port ring are positioned on upper surface of the first raised wall to form a gas ports in conjunction with the plurality of lower gas port channels. The lower surface of the second raised wall is positioned on the upper mounting surfaces of the wave washer port ring to form gas ports in conjunction with the plurality of upper gas port channels.

A fuel gas burner has a supply tube formed with a supply orifice in one end surrounded by aspirator vanes. The burner has a venturi member with a reduced diameter throat region received in the burner inlet. The aspirator vanes frictionally engage the throat region of the venturi. In one embodiment of the venturi comprises a helically wound wire and in another embodiment an annular member with turbulating surfaces formed downstream of the throat.

Gaseous fuel burner assembly and method of connecting same

An integrally formed metal burner ring has a coil spring with a reduced center coil inserted in the burner inlet. Upon insertion of a fuel supply tube into the coil spring the center coil frictionally engages and seals over the supply tube and the spring is expanded to engage and seal against the burner inlet. An ignitor with a hollow tubular refractory holder has a hollow tubular electrode disposed in the hollow of the holder. The holder has a flat end face as an arc discharge surface with the end of the electrode flush with the discharge surface. The holder is secured in an aperture provided in a recess in the burner ring by orbital staking.

A gas burner assembly is provided for a gas stove. The gas burner assembly includes a burner base and a burner cap mounted by the burner base and defines a plurality of gas burner ports. The burner base and burner cap have cooperating members defining a gas stabilization port. The burner cap and the burner base are connected to electrical ground potential. An electrode assembly for manual spark ignition of the gas burner includes an electrically conductive electrode. An electrically insulative support member mounted by the burner base encloses and positions the electrically conductive electrode proximate to the gas burner. Responsive to a user's manual operation, a high voltage potential is applied to the electrically conductive electrode for spark ignition.

Gas stove top burner assembly

A spark electrode assembly for manual spark ignition of a gas burner and a method for manual spark ignition of a gas burner are provided. The spark electrode assembly includes an electrically conductive electrode contained within an electrically insulative support member. The electrically conductive electrode is positioned by the electrically insulative support member proximate to a predetermined portion of the gas burner. At least the predetermined portion of the gas burner is provided at ground potential. A high voltage potential is applied to the electrically conductive electrode responsive to a user's manual operation for spark ignition.

Electrode assembly for gas burner spark ignition

A gas burner assembly includes a detachable burner cap assembly having an electrically conductive burner cap body with a plurality of burner ports and an ignition port formed in a sidewall of the burner cap body. The burner cap body is connected to an electrical ground potential. An electrically insulative support member is mounted in the ignition port and defines an electrode receiving aperture. The electrically insulative support member cooperates with the ignition port to define an ignition gas pathway. A spark electrode extending through the support member aperture includes a portion extending though the ignition port and completely surrounded by the insulative support member. The spark electrode is selectively connected to an high voltage potential for providing ignition sparks between the electrode and the burner body through the ignition gas pathway. A stationary base assembly is adapted for detachable mating engagement with the burner cap assembly. The stationary base assembly includes a gas mixing member defining an aperture for receiving primary air and an outlet for supplying a primary air-gas mixture and for providing an electrical ground potential to the burner cap assembly, a high voltage receptacle operatively associated with the spark electrode for providing an electrical high voltage potential to the spark electrode and support structure for securing the base assembly with the gas range and for accurately aligning and positioning the high voltage receptacle and the gas mixing member outlet with the burner cap assembly.

Integral spark ignited gas burner assembly

A gas burner assembly includes an electrically conductive burner cap body with a plurality of burner ports and an ignition port formed in a sidewall of the burner cap body. The burner cap body is connected to an electrical ground potential. An electrically insulative support member is mounted in the ignition port and defines an electrode receiving aperture. The support member cooperates with the ignition port to define an ignition gas pathway. A spark electrode is positioned within the burner chamber and projects through the support member aperture spaced apart from the ignition gas pathway. The spark electrode is selectively connected to a high voltage potential for providing ignition sparks between the electrode and the burner body through the ignition gas pathway.
