An induction heater () for use in conjunction with an associated furnace () for material processing includes essentially straight induction coil () arranged inside the furnace shell (). The induction coil () has an attachment end () extending outside of the furnace shell through a first opening () therein. A replacement induction coil (R) is selectively connected with the attachment end () of the induction coil () and slidably inserted into the furnace shell () whereby the essentially straight induction coil () is simultaneously slidably pushed out of the furnace shell () through a second opening therein.

A threading and scale removing device is disclosed which includes a heating apparatus having an inlet and an outlet. A work-piece is fed through the inlet and exits through the outlet. A plurality of rollers are operatively associated with the heating apparatus. A belt is mounted on the plurality of rollers and is adapted to rotate through the heating apparatus. As the belt rotates, it functions to thread the work-piece through the heating apparatus. Once the work-piece has been threaded through the heating apparatus, the belt functions to catch and remove metal scales that flake from the work-piece during heating. A motor is operatively connected to the plurality of rollers for driving the rollers and allowing the belt to rotate through the heating apparatus.

A coil/capacitor combination useable as an induction furnace includes a reactive capacitor bank directly bolted to the coil and protected from coil fields by shields and heat sink plates. The coil includes a selectively openable switch for placing the coil assembly on and off of a moving strip. The switch is operated by deflecting coil turns within the natural resiliency of the turns themselves.

An induction heating coil assembly including modular cast refractory blocks ( ) encasing copper turns ( ). The blocks are configured so that the segmenting between blocks occurs at locations where refractory cracks have been prone to occur. The turns, and additional support rods ( ), are placed in tension and fastened against the end walls of the refractory blocks to place the blocks under compression to the extent that normal gravitational forces tending to place the refractory blocks in tension are overcome by the compressive forces of the turns and rods.

An adjustable width transverse flux heating apparatus for induction heating in the moving workpiece includes first and second elements disposed in the common plane to form an inductive coil. The first and second conductor elements define a middle spacing in an internal cross-section area of the inductive coil. A monitor detects workpiece fractures and generates signals relating thereto. A motor system moves one of the conductor elements relative to the other in response to the signal generated by the workpiece monitor.
