A brake drum usable in a vehicle includes a substantially cylindrical wall having an end surface at one axial end thereof, with the substantially cylindrical wall defining a radially inwardly facing wear surface to be engaged by a friction lining upon brake actuation during operation of the vehicle. A radially extending drum section is joined by way of a corner section to another axial end of the substantially cylindrical wall and, together with the substantially cylindrical wall and the corner section, forms a drum interior volume. To provide for discharge of particles from the drum interior volume, the substantially cylindrical wall has a circumferentially extending cut away section in the wear surface located adjacent to the one axial wall end.

Devices and systems to prevent brake dust accumulation in drum brakes

An air supply system for a vehicle air braking system includes an air dryer and a reservoir assembly including a downstream section and a purge reservoir. The downstream section may be a supply or service reservoir or a multi circuit pressure protection valve. A passage extends through the purge reservoir between the air dryer and the downstream section. A delivery valve is in the passage. A purge passageway is on the reservoir assembly between the air dryer and the delivery valve and in fluid communication with the passage. In one embodiment, the reservoir assembly is remote from the air dryer, and only one air line connects the air dryer and the reservoir assembly.

Air dryer reservoir module components

An apparatus for removing oil from air in an air compressor that has a piston reciprocable in a cylinder to compress the air, includes an oil removal chamber associated with the compressor. An unloader valve has an unactuated condition and an actuated condition disabling flow of compressed air out of the compressor and establishing fluid communication between the cylinder and the oil removal chamber. The apparatus may include an oil discharge port for draining oil from the oil removal chamber to a location away from the cylinder, and/or a filter element in the oil removal chamber.

Air dryer module

A cargo or bulk product off-load system includes a compressor ( ) that pressurizes air. The air is dried by a dryer ( ) and routed to a supply tank ( ). From the supply tank, the air is either used to pressurize service reservoirs ( ) or to assist the off-load system. Air stored in the service reservoirs ( ) is used to pressurize purge volumes associated with the dryers ( ). The compressor ( ) operates at a lower pressure when supplying air to assist the off-load system than when pressurizing the service reservoirs ( ). Controllers ( ) coordinate switching of airflow, and alternating purging and drying of the dryers.

A pneumatic actuator is integrated into a foot control valve. It includes a pneumatically activated piston that applies a force to the foot control valve primary piston which, in turn, applies the vehicle brake system. The piston is configured to allow the pedal or treadle actuated plunger to push through the pneumatic actuator and apply the brake system. This finds particular use as an add-on feature for pre-trip inspection systems, as a working brake system, etc.

An emergency brake backup system is achieved by selectively interconnecting the air suspension as an additional reservoir to the air brake system. That is, if the charging system or primary reservoir fails, compressed air in the air spring reservoirs is used as an energy source to supply the pressurized air required for brake function. This can be achieved with minor modification to existing tractor and trailer brake systems that employ air suspension assemblies.

A control valve assembly for a heavy vehicle provides a symmetrical design that minimizes costs and provides a universal adaptation to a number of OEM configurations. The valve assembly can be used with different design platforms since symmetrical surfaces allow the valve body to be oriented as desired. Symmetrical mounting openings, alternate actuating lever mounting arrangements, and preselected angled orientation of the valve ports provide for the use of low-cost fittings that are useful in a wide variety of OEM configurations.

A valve assembly for selectively controlling application of a spring brake in a truck brake system having primary and secondary circuits is provided. A spring brake valve is modified to incorporate a balance piston having an integral quick release valve. This reduces the number of components, complexity, and service problems while maintaining all of the advantages associated with monitoring the function of the primary circuit.

An air dryer and reservoir assembly for providing compressed air from an air compressor (20) on a heavy motor vehicle which includes an air dryer (14) connected to receive compressed air from the air compressor (20) and a secondary reservoir (12), including an integral purge volume (34), for storing compressed air which passes through the air dryer (14), with the air dryer (14) and the secondary reservoir (12) being securely attached to a housing (16) to form an air dryer reservoir module (10). A primary reservoir (18) for storing compressed air from the air dryer (14) is located remote from the air dryer reservoir module (10). A pressure equalizing mechanism (57) is disposed between the primary reservoir (18) and the secondary reservoir (12) for keeping pressure in the two reservoirs (12,18) equal. Components located within the housing (16) control air flow between the air dryer (14) and the primary and secondary reservoirs (18,12) and also monitor the pneumatic brake system circuits fed by the primary and secondary reservoirs (18,12).
