A wireless communication system may include an SGW operably coupled to a PGW to setup a session responsive to a request from a terminal to establish the session between the terminal and the PGW. The system further includes an MME configured to authenticate the terminal and provide bearer management in response to the request. The MME is configured to provide bearer information to the SGW. The system also includes base stations operably coupled to the SGW via a data plane connection and operably coupled to the MME via a control plane connection. The base stations are configured to handover connection to the terminal between the base stations in response to movement of the terminal between coverage areas of the base stations. The MME is configured to assign a deferred bearer in response to a determination that suitability criteria for establishing an active bearer are not met, the deferred bearer reserving a future data bearer and signaling the terminal to store data locally until the future data bearer is established.

Space-based long term evolution (LTE) communications architecture

A communication system may include a first control circuit to detect a break on a first optical link; a first optical source to supply a first optical signal on a second optical link in response to detecting the break on the first optical link, the first optical signal propagating in a first direction on the second optical link; a second control circuit to detect a presence of the first optical signal on the second optical link, and output a control signal in response to detecting the presence of the first optical signal; and a second optical source to supply a second optical signal on the second optical link, the second optical signal propagating in a second direction opposite the first direction, where the Raman pump is disabled in response to the control signal.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed that provide for an agile coherent optical modem that can generate agile RF waveforms and data rates on a generic opto-electronic hardware platform. An 'agile coherent optical modem' [ACOM] approach to optical communications by employing a software configurable and adaptive technologies to the transport system. The ACOM generate agile RF waveforms and data rates on a generic opto-electronic hardware platform. By employing advanced communication techniques to the optical domain such as wavelength agility, waveform agility, and symbol rate agility, it is possible to enable robust optical communications. The ACOM allows for the transport capacity of a communications link to be varied, thereby accommodating variations in transport conditions, range, opacity, etc.

Optical transmission apparatuses, methods, and systems

Optical transmission systems of the present invention include at least one optical amplifier generally including an optical signal amplifying medium supplied with pump power in the form of optical energy in via an optical pump source. The pump source includes multiple optical sources, at least two of which provide optical energy in first and second wavelength ranges separated by a frequency difference. The amplifier includes a wavelength controller configured to adjust the wavelength range of at least one of the optical sources to vary the frequency difference in a manner sufficient to vary optical intensity noise produced when the optical energy from the multiple optical sources is combined.
