A user equipment (UE) is disclosed comprising an agent configured to monitor and report UE configuration and capability information, wherein the UE is further configured to provide the UE configuration and capability information, and subsequently receive an application based on the configuration and capability information. Also disclosed is a network comprising a provisioning server configured to receive UE configuration and capability information, and subsequently provide an application based on the UE configuration and capability information. Also disclosed is a method comprising providing UE configuration and capability information from a UE, and receiving an application at the UE based on the configuration and capability information. Also disclosed is a method comprising receiving UE configuration and capability information at a provisioning server, and providing an application from the provisioning server based on the UE configuration and capability information.

An electronic mail (email) server may include a pending email job queue manager for storing a plurality of email jobs for a plurality of users, and a processing email job queue manager. The processing email job queue manager may be for processing a threshold number of email jobs from the pending email job queue manager for a given user if a plurality of email jobs greater than the threshold number are available from the pending email job queue manager for the given user.

A communications system may include at least one wireless communications device and a plurality of electronic mail (email) servers for storing email messages for the at least one wireless communications device. The system may further include an email relay server for detecting a new email message on a given one of the email servers and, based thereon, sending a short message service (SMS) notification with a unique server identifier (ID) of the given email server to the at least one wireless communications device. The at least one wireless communications device may detect the SMS notification and send an email retrieval request to the email relay server instructing the email relay server to retrieve email messages from the given server based upon the unique server ID.

Accessing, via an end user device, email messages of an external mail source. A direct access proxy is operative to reconcile the email contents of external email sources with the email contents of user devices through the use of lists of unique email identifiers (UIDs). A Partition Database returns UID lists reflective of the UIDs of email messages previously received from the external email source and forwarded to a network server of the system (forwarded UID lists). A memory cache external to the direct access proxy and its corresponding Partition Database returns forwarded UID lists. The direct access proxy determines the data reliability of the Partition Database and memory cache, and obtains forwarded UID lists from the memory cache when it determines that the memory cache is at least as reliable as the Partition Database.

Caching email unique identifiers

A system of provisioning a mobile wireless communications device to display account or device specific characteristics includes a database for storing a plurality of display characteristics for different wireless carriers, electronic mail (email) service providers, and device types. A configuration module accesses the database and uploads the display characteristics of at least one of the wireless carrier, email service provider or device type to the mobile wireless communications device upon provisioning of the mobile wireless communications device to access email from a remote location.

System and method for provisioning a mobile wireless communications device to display account or device-specific characteristics

A system of provisioning a mobile wireless communications device to display account or device specific characteristics includes a database for storing a plurality of display characteristics for different wireless carriers, electronic mail (email) service providers, device types, and source mailbox mail domains. A configuration module accesses the database and uploads the display characteristics of at least one of the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain to the mobile wireless communications device upon provisioning of the mobile wireless communications device to access email from a remote location.

A communications system may include a client device for generating email processing jobs and a proxy server communicating asynchronously over the Internet with the client device for processing the email processing jobs. The client device may post a given email processing job to the proxy server with a unique job identifier (ID), and the proxy server thereafter may post job results for the given email processing job to the client device also with the unique job ID. The client device may also advantageously post at least one other email processing job to the proxy server over the Internet at a time between posting the given email processing job and receiving the job results therefor.

An email system may include an email server(s) configured to store email messages in a plurality of mailboxes, and a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each configured to store email messages and an email synchronization indicator for a respective mailbox. The system may further include an email synchronization server(s) configured to establish synchronization sessions with the mobile wireless communications devices and retrieve the email synchronization indicators therefrom, and determine changes to the mailboxes and synchronize respective email messages between the mobile wireless communications devices and the email server(s) during the synchronization sessions based upon the retrieved email synchronization indicators. The email synchronization server(s) may also be configured to communicate updated email synchronization indicators to the mobile wireless communications devices, and terminate the synchronization sessions without storing of the updated email synchronization indicators at the email synchronization server(s).

An electronic mail (email) server includes a proxy that obtains mappings for unique identifiers (UID's) corresponding to new electronic messages that have been determined from a polling operation. A Least Recently Used (LRU) cache caches each new message and releases from cache least recently used messages. A memory in which all messages within the LRU cache are spooled.

An electronic mail (email) server has a database that stores unique identifiers (UID's) of electronic messages. A proxy obtains mappings from the database for previously existing UID's of electronic messages that have been determined from a polling operation. A cache caches the mappings of UID's and the proxy is operative for purging the cache of the previously existing UID's after polling.

A communications system may include a plurality of data storage devices each using at least one of a plurality of different operating protocols, and a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices for accessing the plurality of data storage devices. In particular, the protocol interface device may include a protocol engine module for communicating with the plurality of data storage devices using respective operating protocols, and a front-end proxy module coupled to the protocol engine. The front-end proxy module may include a respective proxy module for communicating with the plurality of mobile wireless communications devices using each different operating protocol, and at least one common core service module connected to the proxy modules.

Communications system providing extensible protocol translation features and related methods

A communications system may include a plurality of data storage devices each using at least one of a plurality of operating protocols. The system may also include a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices for accessing the data storage devices, and each may use at least one of the plurality of operating protocols. Furthermore, the system may also include a protocol interface device including a front-end proxy module for communicating with the plurality of mobile wireless communications devices using respective operating protocols, and a protocol engine module for communicating with the plurality of data storage devices using respective operating protocols. More particularly, the front-end proxy module and the protocol engine module may communicate using a common interface protocol able to represent a desired number of protocol-supported elements for a desired operating protocol.

Communications system including protocol interface device for use with multiple operating protocols and related methods

A communications system may include at least one wireless communications device and at least one electronic mail (email) server for storing email messages for the at least one wireless communications device. An email relay server may detect a new email message on the at least one email server and, based thereon, send a short message service (SMS) notification with an original SMS identifier to the at least one wireless communications device. The at least one wireless communications device may detect the SMS notification and send an instruction to the email relay server to thereafter send any subsequent SMS notification with a different SMS identifier rather than the original SMS identifier.

An interface device, method and computer-readable program includes a proxy operative as an agent for communicating with a plurality of mobile wireless devices using different operating protocols. A device information module is operative with the proxy and determines functional features of a wireless mobile communications device and selects a configuration file for configuring the proxy to interface with the device and enable communications of any desired alerts.
