A buckle pretensioner for a vehicle safety restraint comprising a buckle head ( ) for receiving a buckle tongue to secure safety restraint webbing about a vehicle occupant in a three-point belt system; a cable ( ) connected to the buckle head ( ); and device ( ) for rapidly withdrawing the cable in a belt tightening direction, the withdrawing device ( ) comprising a force reservoir ( ), and driving mechanism ( ), and being of a compact construction through the use of set-up gearing ( ) to magnify linear movement produced by the force reservoir ( ) which may be a pyrotechnic gas generator or a spring. The driving mechanism ( ) may be a piston-cylinder ( ) or a rack and pinion. The gearing may comprise a pulley arrangement ( ). Alternatively a roots motor or a gear pump could be used.

Buckle pretensioner

A pretensioner for a vehicle safety restraint, for rapidly reducing slack in a safety restraint belt in the event of a crash situation, the pretensioner comprising a cable (,) connected at one end to a piston (,) at its other end to a belt rewinding mechanism, the piston (,) being slidably moveable in a cylinder (,) under action of pressure from a gas generator (,) sensitive to a crash indicator, wherein means (,) are provided for controlling the rate of acceleration of the cable (,) in the pretensioning direction, in dependence upon the condition of tension in the safety restraint belt which is to be pretensioned. This can be effected by blocking holes in a dividing plate or by using a continuously variable throttle arrangement such as a profiled throttle pin or a hollow space in the piston with a restrictable opening. The invention allows pretensioning forces to be automatically tailored to the requirements at the time of the crash and as a result provides more comfort to the vehicle occupant while maintaining the required strict safety standards.

Seat belt pretensioner

A pin oven for curing a decorative or other coating laid down by a rotary decorator on cans has an associated transfer device by which the cans are decelerated and transferred in succession from the decorator onto the chain of the oven. The chain carries two cows of pins which are arranged in staggered and offset relation. By operating at a smaller chain circulating speed than the can output velocity of the decorator, the oven provides benefits in the size and thermal efficiency of the oven and reduced chain wear.

Pin ovens and transfer devices therefor

A pin oven for stoving a decorative or other coating laid down by a rotary decorator (28') on cans has an associated transfer device (40') by which the cans are decelerated and transferred in succession from the decorator onto the chain (20') of the oven. The chain carries two rows of pins which are arranged in staggered and offset relation. By operating at a smaller chain circulating speed than the can output velocity of the decorator, the oven provides benefits in the size and thermal efficiency of the oven and reduced chain wear.
