An automated testing framework to coordinate functions among code management, build management, automated test, resource reservation, artifact repositories and team communication subsystems. In one embodiment specific to software development, software developers check new code into a code management subsystem, a development project tracking system, or other tools that automatically generate a build. Test suites are then automatically selected and executed based on a scope of the project or code that was built. This scope can include such attributes as what portion of the software was built, the purpose (objective) of the build, the maturity of developing that build, and so forth. In one implementation, label directives may be used to associate build scope to test suites. During or after the automated tests, other actions may then be automatically triggered, to store test results, inform the development team, stored data integrated with test definition and results, or update an artifact repository.

Unified test automation system

Methods and apparatus for managing information related to backup storage activities of data storage systems. In a computer system having one or more independent backup data storage systems coupled to each other and each serving one or more clients, a user may obtain information related to backup activities of any of the backup storage systems from a single location. Through a user interface associated with any of the backup storage systems, or through a stand alone user interface, a user may manage (e.g., organize, display, print) information related to backup activities of any or all of the backup storage systems. System administrators can design and store a variety of report formats that may be utilized by any user to display or print various parameters associated with backup activities in a particular manner. Report formats may be edited by users, and displayed parameters may be dynamically updated to provide for active monitoring of one or more backup storage systems. Additionally, periodic backup activity reports can be generated and automatically sent to designated locations, for example to one or more printers and/or to one or more designated recipients via E-mail.

Method and apparatus for managing information related to storage activities of data storage systems

Restricting access to a device includes obtaining a passphrase for a user, obtaining access credentials for the user, obtaining a PIN value for the user, one-way encrypting at least the access credentials and the PIN using a secret key provided with the device. The user is allowed access to the device if the result of one-way encrypting equals the passphrase. The user is denied access to the device if the result of one-way encrypting does not equal the passphrase. The device may be a storage device. The access credentials may include a username that identifies the user and may include a role for the user. The access credentials may include a time period for which access is allowed. Access may be subsequently revoked in response to the current date and time being greater than the time period for which access is allowed.

Accessing data storage devices

Providing protection of point-in-time application data includes obtaining a plurality of original snapshot copies of an original logical volume containing the application data, causing the original snapshot copies to be tested for data corruption, and restoring data corresponding to one of the original snapshot copies. Application data is accessible by an application prior to completion of the restoration. One of the original snapshot copies may be restored to the original logical volume and/or to a new logical volume different from the original logical volume. Prior to completion of the restoration, particular data may be restored to the original logical volume or to the new logical volume prior to an operation to access the particular data. The original snapshot copies may be provided as virtual devices.
