This invention describes an electronic skin care device including therein a specimen dispenser. Specimens are dispensed from the device after the specimen information stored in the storage component located in the dispenser is processed by the device. The user skin information stored in another storage component located in the device may also be utilized so that dispensed specimens have desired properties for the user's skin care need.

Specimen dispensing device

A read head with two read sensors enables reading of a magnetically recorded medium of increased areal densities such as would be provided by two-dimensional magnetic recording. The two sensors, which may be formed in separate depositions, are arranged vertically relative to each other as top and bottom sensors, with a downtrack displacement between them that is less than 900 A and a crosstrack displacement that is less than 600 A. Their separate free layers are connected by four or three conducting leads and require no junctions for their connections. In one embodiment each sensor has separate top and bottom shields and leads. In another embodiment, there is a common shield and lead between the two sensors, but a separate top shield/lead for the top sensor and bottom shield/lead for the bottom sensor.

The resonance frequency of a forced torsionally oscillating mirror MEMS device can be controlled in the presence of perturbations by means of a closed loop feedback device and method of using it. The method is implemented through a simple algorithm, implemented in either software or hardware, that maintains the condition of resonance, or another selected frequency, by recursively determining that the center of the driving voltage pulse is positioned at a point on the measured positional waveform of the oscillating system.

An electronic component tester characterizes electronic components such as magnetic head/media components measure performance parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio and overwrite evaluation. The electronic component tester has a tester process controller and a spectrum analyzer. The tester process controller generates calibration and control signals for the electronic component tester. The spectrum analyzer is in communication with electronic components such as magnetic head or media components to receive a response characterization signal resulting from a stimulus signal applied to the electronic components. The spectrum analyzer then determines a frequency spectrum of the response characterization signal. The spectrum analyzer is also in communication with the tester process controller for transferring the frequency spectrum to the tester process controller. The spectrum analyzer receives the calibration and control signals from the tester process controller for removing effects of an image frequency of the frequency spectrum and determining noise bandwidth of the frequency spectrum.

The preferred embodiments of the present invention are devices and processes for producing high resolution lithography or pattern formation on the nanometer scale, using a voltage-biased probe that is slider-mounted along with, or separate from but linked to, a magnetic read head within a HDD mechanism. The probe is guided and positioned over a target layer by the motion of the read head which is, itself, guided by signals from servo tracks on a magnetic layer that activate an electromechanical servomechanism within the HDD. An electric field produced by the probe is capable of modifying the surface of the target layer over which the probe flies either directly, or by current induced or thermally induced effects. Targets such as amorphous or crystalline silicon can be hydrogen passivated and the electric field will produce oxidized or anodized lines with nanometer resolution.

A slider mounted CPP GMR or TMR read head sensor is protected from electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage and from noise and cross-talk from an adjacent write head by means of a balanced resistive/capacitative shunt. The shunt includes highly resistive interconnections between upper and lower shields of the read head and a grounded slider substrate and a low resistance interconnection between the lower pole piece of the write head and the substrate. The capacitances between the pole piece and the upper shield, the upper shield and the lower shield and the lower shield and the substrate are made equal by either forming the shields and pole piece with equal surface areas and separating them with dielectrics of equal thicknesses, or by keeping the ratio of area to insulator thicknesses equal.

ESD, cross talk and noise minimizing resistive/capacitative shunt for CPP and TMR devices

A method for operating a head testing apparatus or, more generally, a host hard disk drive using a mounted hard disk that has had its servo track information pre-written in an external servo-writing apparatus rather than in the head testing or host apparatus itself. The method eliminates repeatable errors and repeatable runout by effectively replacing the pre-written servo tracks, which are eccentric, with new track profiles that are tracked like circular tracks. The problem of repeatable errors is caused by repeatable runout superimposed upon written-in position errors when a disk written in one machine is transferred to another. This problem is eliminated by forming IRON (Iterative Repeatable Runout Nulling) profile tracks from the initially pre-written servo tracks, where the IRON profile tracks are effectively tracked as concentric circular tracks and generate no PES. The IRON profile is formed by an iterative method that starts with the measurement of the PES of one of the pre-written tracks and iteratively forms a new track profile that is effectively circular.

A method for operating a head testing apparatus (spin stand) using a mounted hard disk that has had its servo track information pre-written in an external servo-writing apparatus rather than in the testing apparatus itself. This insures more accurate servo-track writing and renders the testing operation more efficient. The problem of repeatable runout (RRO) associated with the transfer of a disk written in one machine to another is eliminated by forming a corrected position error signal (PES) by subtracting the average offset of one or more servo sector locations previously calculated using limited bandwidth operation of the servomechanism, from the position error signal generated during full bandwidth servo operation of the apparatus.

Method for protecting a slider mounted CPP GMR or TMR read head sensor from noise and ESD damage

In order to obtain improved magnetic track density, it is desirable to bring the read and write elements as close to the recording surface as possible, short of actually touching it. This has been achieved by utilizing a magnetostrictive actuator, comprising single or multiple pairs of magnetostrictive elements and their associated conductor coils. A magnetic field is generated by passing electrical current through the conductor coils. This field will saturate the actuator and cause the magnetostrictive elements to contract or expand, thus moving the read/write element whenever so desired.

A system and method for adjusting the flying height of a magnetic head above a magnetic storage medium, such as a disk, is disclosed. A charging electrical pad may be coupled to the slider separate from the magnetic head to allow a charging electrical conductor to apply an electrical charge to the slider. By acting as a quasi-parallel capacitor, the amount of spacing in the head-disk interface may be increased or decreased based on the amount of voltage applied. The slider may be electrically isolated from the suspension. A feedback control system may monitor and control the head-disk spacing by measuring temperature or other environmental conditions surrounding the slider and disk.

A method and system for providing a magnetic memory are disclosed. The method and system include providing a plurality of magnetic memory cells and at least one programmable current source. Each of the plurality of magnetic memory cells includes a first magnetic element. The programmable current source(s) are for programming a portion of the plurality of magnetic memory cells. Each of the programmable current source(s) includes a controller and a current source coupled to the controller. The controller is for determining a current provided by the current source and includes at least a second magnetic element. The second magnetic element(s) are substantially the same as the first magnetic element. The controller determines the current provided by the current source based on the at least the second magnetic element.
