Processing within a computing environment is facilitated by generating a hybrid security certificate using multiple cryptosystems. The generating includes obtaining data for inclusion in the hybrid security certificate, and generating a first digital signature associated with a first cryptosystem to cover the data, and a second digital signature associated with a second cryptosystem to cover the data. The generating further includes providing the hybrid security certificate, where the hybrid security certificate includes the data, the first digital signature associated with the first cryptosystem, and the second digital signature associated with the second cryptosystem, and where the first digital signature has no dependency on a key of the second cryptosystem or the second digital signature, and the second digital signature has no dependency on a key of the first cryptosystem or the first digital signature.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method, and computer program product for updating software on an embedded computer device. According to one aspect of the present invention, a concurrent embedded application update is performed in which selected state information for one or both of an embedded virtual machine and a plurality of applets on an embedded computer device is securely exported to a host computer device. After software updates have been installed, the selected state information can be restored on the embedded computer device from which it was exported and/or it can be migrated to a second embedded computer device.

A client station on computer network uses an operating system such as JavaOS which is permanently stored at the server rather than on storage media at the client location. JavaOS is loaded and installed at the client upon bootup of the client. Java is an interpreted language; the source is available at the server and is downloaded as such. Upon the occurrence of a malfunction that causes the client to go off-line, i.e., disappear from the network, a dump image is sent to the server before the client reboots, so that the cause of failure can be determined. The dump image includes the contents of memory, including the JavaOS operating system, and the stack, threads, registers, and local/global variables, which can be analyzed at a source level. This image is sent to the server in formatted packets, by a path separate from that of the TCP/IP network protocol, since the client would not be functioning properly on the network. At the server, the packets making up the dump image are stored on storage media, and the image is reformatted for use by a standard debugging tool, ICAT.

A method and apparatus for debugging applications on a microkernel without invoking services provided by a particular personality. An application debugger is separated into three distinct pieces consisting of a user interface, debug engine, debug probe (instrumentation server). The user interface supports user inputs and debugger output in a language and platform-independent syntax. The debug engine supports semantics for specific language and target operating environments. The debug probe supports low-level query, access and update of the applications's state. The instrumentation server checks to see if a requested application is in its list of known application tasks. The instrumentation server sets an application into debug mode by either attaching to the application from a list of applications that it has constructed by polling the IBM Microkernel loaders or by having the application launched by a given IBM Microkernel loader. Because the instrumentation server has root authority, it is able to enquire and obtain the application's task control port and therefore manipulate the applications's state using standard microkernel system calls.

A method for debugging a target application comprising Java code having native method dll's associated therewith. The method is carried out in a computer having an operating system, a system debug application programming interface (API), and a Java virtual machine having a Java debug API. According to the method, the Java virtual machine is first launched under the system debug API. The application is then run under the Java virtual machine. Because the Java virtual machine that runs the target application itself runs under the system debug API, simultaneous control of the target application via the system debug API and the Java debug API is enabled. Thus, the method effects the debug of the target application by simultaneously debugging the Java code and the native method dynamic load libraries.

The physical memory of a computer may not be directly accessable to the operator during the operation of a program due to the operational requirements of the operating system. Direct access to the physical memory of the computer during such operation may be possible through the aliasing of the physical memory locations and the creation of virtual alias addresses which will then give operator the necessary control to directly access any memory location thereby permitting the debugging of the program.

An improved dishwasher system utilizes ultrasonic signals to clean a wide range of kitchen and/or dining ware items. The system includes one or more ultrasonic signal generators submerged within a water bath and regulated by a controller to generate an ultrasonic signal, resulting in the production of a large quantity of cavitation bubbles which implode with a vigorous cleaning action against submerged kitchen ware items. The controller rapidly varies the specific frequency of the generated ultrasonic signal, preferably in conjunction with a rapid on-off pulse cycling of the signal, to prevent damage to or breakage of fragile ware items.
