Prior art fuel line check valves remain closed after engine off and cool down. Diurnal heating and the resultant pressure increase in the fuel line causes fuel vapor emissions through small openings in the fuel line (e.g., at the injector tips). The invention provides a check valve for a vehicle fuel line which opens in response to engine cooling and remains open while the engine is off to relieve subsequent increasing pressure in the fuel line due to diurnal heating thereof.

A cover assembly for a fuel tank of a vehicle includes a cover made of a metal material adapted to close an opening in the fuel tank having a fuel reservoir disposed therein and an insert molded to the cover to form a plurality of members to allow components to be attached thereto. The insert is integral, unitary, and one-piece.

A hydrocarbon adsorber system in accordance with the invention comprising a carbon adsorber element installed in a throttle body of an internal combustion engine. The element may be installed on a wall or in a groove in the wall of the throttle throat at a location immediately upstream (outside) the throttle blade in the air flow direction, and/or an element may be installed on the downstream surface of the throttle blade itself. When an engine is shut down, the engine throttle normally remains slightly open. Any hydrocarbon emissions must pass through this slight opening, and applying carbon adsorbers to these locations takes advantage of proximity to such an opening, as any hydrocarbon emissions must pass close by the carbon adsorbers and thus have a much-increased probability of being adsorbed, in comparison with prior art more general carbon adsorption sites.

A valve mechanism to control fluid flow between a fluid pumping device and a system that includes an inlet from the fluid pumping device, a first valve, a second valve, a first outlet fluidly connected to the system, and a second outlet. The first valve prevents backflow of fluid when the fluid pumping device discontinues pumping fluid to the system. The second valve checks fluid flow through the valve to the first outlet when fluid pressure at the inlet is less than a first predetermined pressure. The second valve permits fluid flow from the pump through the valve to the system only when fluid pressure at the inlet is greater than the first predetermined pressure. The second valve prevents fluid pressure in the system from substantially exceeding a second predetermined pressure when the pumping device is not pumping fluid to the system.

A fuel pump module assembly for a fuel tank in a vehicle includes a reservoir adapted to be disposed in the fuel tank. The fuel pump module assembly also includes a fuel pump disposed in the reservoir to pump fuel from the fuel tank to an engine of the vehicle. The fuel pump module assembly includes a filter disposed in the reservoir and having an inlet fluidly connected to the fuel pump and having a first outlet fluidly connected to the engine and a second outlet. The fuel pump module assembly further includes a regulating valve disposed in the reservoir and fluidly connected to the second outlet to control fuel supply pressure to the engine.

A cover assembly for a fuel tank of a vehicle includes a cover adapted to close an opening in the fuel tank and an internal port operatively supported by the cover. The cover assembly also includes a fill limiting vent valve attached to the internal port to vent the fuel tank through the cover. The internal port includes at least one convolute therein.

A fuel sensor system for a vehicle includes a fuel pump adapted to be disposed in a fuel tank to pump fuel from the fuel tank to an engine of the vehicle. The fuel sensor system also includes a fuel sensor adapted to be disposed in the fuel tank to measure a property index of the fuel. The fuel sensor system further includes a jet pump connected to the fuel pump to fill the fuel sensor with a fuel sample of the fuel.

A solenoid valve assembly for a vehicle includes a barrel and a solenoid disposed in the barrel for connection to a source of power. The solenoid valve assembly also includes a movable plunger disposed in the barrel and cooperating with the solenoid and a latch connected to the plunger and cooperating with the barrel to maintain the plunger in either one of an open state and closed state.

An improved quick-disconnect connector assembly for connecting hoses, having a female element for connection to a first hose and a male element for connection to a second hose. The female element has an axial bore having a sealing mechanism for sealably receiving a tubular portion of the male element. The male element further comprises resettable valve including a coil spring that extends into the bore in the female element and is retained therein by a U-shaped clip. The spring is sized to hold the male element axially within the sealing mechanism up to a desired inline pressure. When the pressure limit is exceeded, the male element spring is extended until the seal is broken, relieving the overpressure condition. When the un-sealing force has been relieved, the extended spring biases the male element back into sealing relationship with the female element, thereby automatically resetting the relief valve.

A photocatalytic device for photocatalytically treating evaporative emissions comprises a substrate with a photocatalyst. A shell is disposed about the substrate, and can optionally comprises one or more sections of transparent material capable of being penetrated by an ultra violet light. Additionally, sealing agent can optionally be disposed between the shell and sections of transparent material to provide a gas tight seal.

A vapor canister and fuel tank assembly for a vehicle includes a fuel tank having an interior chamber and a vapor canister fluidly communicating with the interior chamber of the fuel tank to adsorb vapor fuel. The vapor canister and fuel tank assembly also includes a pressure sensor located on a clean side of the vapor canister to monitor pressure in the assembly.

A zero emissions fuel system includes a fuel tank fluidly interconnected with a fuel vapor containment and absorption canister. The canister is further interconnected with an engine intake manifold via a purge solenoid valve that controls the extent to which a vacuum in the intake manifold affects the canister. The canister is also interconnected with the ambient environment via at least one selectively operable valve. During normal operation of the engine, the purge solenoid valve allows the intake manifold to draw fuel vapor from the canister for consumption by the engine. At a predetermined vacuum pressure, the at least one valve opens, thereby allowing outside air to flow into the system through the vacuum relief valve to facilitate purging of the canister.
