A circuit board injector/ejector device for use with a circuit board to be accommodated in a rack housed in an enclosure comprises a body adapted to be secured to a front plate secured to the circuit board and a lever pivotally mounted on the body. The device is adapted to assist in providing the force necessary to effect a multiplicity of pin and socket connections at the rear of the circuit board when the circuit board is introduced into a rack and to assist in providing the force necessary to effect disconnection of the multiplicity of pin and socket connections at the rear of the circuit board when the circuit board is withdrawn from the rack. The lever has passing therethrough a fixing screw which, when the multiplicity of pin and socket connections at the rear of the circuit board have been made and withdrawal of the circuit board from the rack is prevented by co-operating surfaces of the lever and an adjacent elongate member of the rack, is adapted to screw into a tapped hole in the body to prevent pivotal movement of the lever.

Circuit board injector/ejector device for a circuit board enclosure

A cooling system for use in an enclosure housing heat-emitting electrical and/or electronic apparatus comprises, in combination, a fan unit and, separately formed with respect to the fan unit, a cooling unit 12. The fan unit includes electrically driven fans mounted with their axes vertical and the cooling unit includes open ended tubes arranged side by side with their axes in a horizontal plane and transversely spaced apart to form passages therebetween. One open end of each tube is adjacent the front of the rack and is open to the atmosphere through a grill; the other open end of each tube is spaced inwardly from the rear of the rack and opens into an otherwise fluid-tight compartment in which are housed electrically driven fans and associated deflectors. Air within the enclosure heated by heat emitted by the electrical and/or electronic apparatus is caused to flow upwardly or downwardly by the fans of the fan unit through the passages between the transversely spaced tubes of the cooling unit and is cooled by air initially at ambient temperature which is drawn by the fans of the cooling unit from outside the enclosure through tubes of the cooling unit into the compartment and is deflected by the deflectors through other tubes of the cooling unit and out of the unit.

Electronic enclosure cooling system

A thermally conductive module for locally extracting heat from an individual electrical component of a circuit board installation comprises a tubular metal housing of high thermal conductivity closed at one end and having at that end a screw-threaded stud for securing the housing to and in thermal contact with a thermal conductor. A spring-loaded metal piston of high thermal conductivity is slidably mounted in the bore of and protrudes from the housing and has a throughbore extending through and opening into the exposed end face of the piston. A grease-like medium of high thermal conductivity is contained in the closed bore of the housing. When the housing is secured in thermal contact with a thermal conductor and the exposed end face of the piston is brought into thermal contact with an electrical component from which heat is to be extracted, the piston is urged against the action of its associated coil spring and grease-like medium exudes from the throughbore and flows between the exposed end face of the piston and the electrical component to provide an effective thermal contact therebetween.

Circuit board installation

An enclosure for housing sub-racks carrying circuit boards and modules carrying other electricalcomponents comprises two separately formed identical bodies, each of which constitutes an end wall and a part of each of a pair of oppositely disposed side walls and which are secured together to form an enclosure having two oppositely disposed open faces. Adjacent one of the open faces of the enclosure, means is provided on which sub-racks and modules can be detachably mounted in the enclosure either with the front faces of the sub-racks and modules flush with the open face of the enclosure or with the faces of the sub-racks and modules set back from the open face. Preferably, inner parts of the end walls of the bodies adjacent the other open face of the enclosure are so shaped that sub-racks and modules can be trapped in the enclosure between the inner parts of the end walls when the enclosure is assembled.
