Hearing prosthesis accessory

An alert system detects when an auditory prosthesis recipient is wearing her sound processor. When the processor is not worn, the alert system signals a secondary device, such as an accessory, to provide some other form of tactile stimulation to allow the recipient to be made aware of certain auditory stimuli she is not receiving via the auditory prosthesis. Thus, the alert system can effectively 'hear' for the recipient. Since many auditory prosthesis recipients are, for all practical purposes, completely deaf without their external sound processors attached and operational, such an alert system increases the recipient's safety, convenience, and quality of life.

A boot is used to cover an inlet of a microphone of an auditory prosthesis. The boot prevents water, sweat, and other debris from damaging the microphone or entering the prosthesis housing. Additionally, the boot can include structure that helps dampen vibrations within the auditory prosthesis, thus improving microphone performance.

Embodiments presented herein are generally directed to a protective sleeve for an external component of a hearing prosthesis. The protective sleeve comprises a base plug configured to be inserted into a main body. The main body and base plug are each primarily formed from a substantially flexible material and each comprises one or more substantially rigid members. When the base plug is inserted into the main body the substantially rigid members operate to deform a portion of substantially flexible material forming part of the main body or base plug to seal the base plug to the main body.
