This invention provides the end-to-end control, networking, and data management for information presentation services and collaboration services. The invention provides for identification of events, generation of push invitations to such events, personalization of ebooks via reader-author collaboration to embed Personalized Multimedia Autographs (PMAs) into the ebook or other media, event line control allowing readers to browse the bookstore, buy while wait, or mingle while waiting for collaboration with the author during these events and capability for the readers and author to discuss the event on social media after the readers have registered for the event enabling the author to provide tailored comments at the event to the readers' interests. This invention may be implemented using several embodiments ranging from small local venues conducting a single author signing to large venues conducting many author presentations and signings in parallel.

Personalized multimedia autographing system

A paint can shelf attaches to a sliding extension ladder fly section. The shelf includes two parallel arms which reach through hollow rungs of the sliding extension ladder fly section, whereby the shelf is raised and lowered with the sliding extension ladder fly section. Slides are attached to the arms on each side of the sliding extension ladder fly section and include low friction surfaces facing the fixed extension ladder section. The slides allow somewhat loose tolerances in the engagement of the arms with the ladder preventing the ladder sections from binding when the ladder is extended or lowered.

A hierarchical and distributed control architecture for managing an optical communications network. The architecture includes a line card manager level for managing individual line cards in an optical switch, a node manager level for managing multiple line cards in an optical switch/node, and a network management system level for managing multiple optical switches/nodes in a network. An event manager at the node manager level enables software components that are running at the node manager to register for and receive events, and to post events. The events may be triggered, e.g., by a change in a status of the switch, or an alarm condition. Control architecture functionalities include signaling, routing, protection switching and network management. Furthermore, the network management function includes a topology manager, a performance manager, a connection manager, a fault detection manager, and a configuration manager.

Multi-tiered control architecture for adaptive optical networks, and methods and apparatus therefor

The present invention is directed to a sanding device which is adapted to substantially confine for collection dust created by the device during its use. The present sanding device comprises a mounting plate having an upper surface, a lower surface, and one or more apertures penetrating therethrough. A hollow tube sealingly is connected to the mounting plate at its proximal end and is connectable to a source of suction at its distal end. A resilient pad, having an upper surface, a lower surface, and side surfaces, is mounted to the lower surface of the plate at its upper surface. The side pad surfaces are sealed. The pad is characterized by being formed from an open weave fiber skeleton exhibiting openings throughout the entire pad structure. The lower surface of the pad defines a substantially smooth plane. A removable apertured sanding sheet (e.g. screen) is mounted to the lower surface of the pad and is supported thereby in a substantially smooth planar configuration. Use of such sanding device to sand substrates in a dustless manner forms another aspect of the present invention.

An apparatus for increasing the vertical travel of auxiliary wheels mounted on an auxiliary axle includes a lever rotatably mounted on the auxiliary axle and a wheel mounting spindle secured to the lever spaced from its mounting on the auxiliary axle to displace the wheel from the axle. In a preferred form of the invention, the lever is mounted on the axle by being secured to the end of a second axle rotatably mounted within the hollow auxiliary axle. Apparatus is provided to cause rotation of the lever between a lowered position in which the auxiliary wheels can be moved into weight bearing position and a raised, increased clearance position. A lock is provided so the lever can be locked in position, at least when in lowered position. In some cases, the lever will be mounted to the axle in a manner to allow the auxiliary wheel to caster and thereby steer with the vehicle on which it is mounted.
