Methods and systems are provided for a compressor adapted with a movable sleeve and an active casing treatment that form separate air flow chambers. In one example, a method includes flowing intake air in a first direction through a casing to an impeller of a compressor, selectively flowing intake air from the casing through a first chamber in an opposite, second direction, the first chamber circumferentially surrounding the casing, and selectively flowing intake air in the first direction through a second chamber to the impeller, the second chamber circumferentially surrounding the first chamber. In this way, compressor surge may be mitigated without reducing compressor efficiency at higher air flow rates.

Active casing treatment adapted with movable sleeve

Methods and systems are provided for expediting heating of an engine and an emissions device upon cold startup of the engine. In one example, a method may include prior to cold startup of an engine, operating an e-compressor and opening a recirculation valve of a recirculation passage coupled across the e-compressor to flow compressed intake air from an outlet of the e-compressor through the recirculation passage to an inlet of the e-compressor and starting the engine upon a temperature at the outlet of the e-compressor reaching a threshold and continuing to operate the e-compressor while the engine is on. The heated intake air resulting from the flow of compressed intake air through the recirculation passage raises a temperature of combustion and a temperature of exhaust gas, which may decrease catalyst light-off time of the emissions device.

Systems and methods for expediting engine warming

Systems and methods for controlling and diagnosing air flow through a compressor without recirculating air flow through the compressor are presented. In one example, a position of an air flow control device located within a compressor housing is adjusted responsive to a request to diagnose flow through the compressor. The diagnostic may be performed while maintaining engine torque and speed.

Methods and system diagnosing a variable geometry compressor for an internal combustion engine

Methods and systems are provided for a compressor adapted with a movable sleeve and an active casing treatment that form separate air flow chambers. In one example, a method includes flowing intake air through a casing to an impeller of a compressor, and during first conditions, actuating an actuator to adjust a movable sleeve surrounding the casing from a first position to a second position and flowing intake air through a second chamber to the impeller, the movable sleeve adjusted in both a radial direction and an axial direction via a single actuating motion of the actuator. In this way, compressor surge may be mitigated without reducing compressor efficiency at higher air flow rates.

Methods and systems are provided for a compressor having a variable inlet device and an active casing treatment. In one arrangement, a system for a compressor may include a casing forming a recirculation passage surrounding an inlet passage, an active casing treatment surrounding the inlet passage and configured to selectively control gas flow through the recirculation passage, an impeller, and a variable inlet device positioned in the inlet passage upstream of the impeller and configured to selectively reduce an effective size of the impeller. The variable inlet device and the active casing treatment may be adjusted based on operating conditions in order to increase a flow range of the compressor while providing high compressor efficiency.

Systems and methods for a variable inlet compressor

Methods and systems are provided for controlling boost pressure and exhaust gas recirculation in a split exhaust system. In one example, a first portion of exhaust may be routed from a cylinder to an exhaust turbine via a first exhaust valve and a second, remaining portion of exhaust may be routed as exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) via a second exhaust valve, the timing and lift of each of the first valve profile and the second valve profile adjusted based on boost error and EGR error. Further, motor torque from an electric motor may be supplied to the turbocharger to attain a desired boost pressure and a desired EGR flow.

Methods and systems for boost and EGR control

Methods and systems are provided for an engine system configured with a wide range active compressor and high pressure EGR. In one example, a compressor may include an active casing treatment with a slideable sleeve may be adjusted to direct air flow through either a choke slot and surge slot to control compressor efficiency, thereby maintaining EGR flow. In another example, the compressor may comprise a variable inlet device to regulate air flow through the compressor, thereby adjusting compressor efficiency and also maintaining EGR flow.

Methods and systems are provided for a slidable sleeve valve actuation system for a turbocharger compressor. In one example, an actuator assembly for a slidable sleeve of a turbocharger compressor may comprise: a fork arm coupled to the slidable sleeve; a rotatable lever arm coupled to the fork arm via a rigid connecting shaft; a connector rod coupled between the lever arm and a rotatable element; and an actuator unit coupled to the rotatable element and attached to an attachment case, the attachment case coupled to the turbocharger compressor. The actuator assembly may be actuated to move the slidable sleeve from one position along a casing treatment to another position along the casing treatment, thereby adjusting the alignment of sleeve slots on the slidable sleeve relative to choke or surge slots on the casing treatment.

Slidable sleeve actuation system for a turbocharger compressor

Methods and systems are provided for adjusting an active casing treatment of a compressor responsive to a predicted engine condition. In one arrangement, a controller may actuate a sleeve of a variable geometry compressor casing to a position selected based on each of a compressor pressure ratio and a mass flow through the compressor, as well as driver behavior and predicted road conditions; and adjust each of an EGR actuator and a boost actuator based on the selected position to maintain the compressor pressure ratio during the actuating.

An engine is described having an engine control unit and two or more hydraulically operated wheels, wherein a fluid is flowed from an accumulator to the engine via the first wheel to assist in acceleration of the turbocharger in response to an acceleration signal from the engine control system and wherein the fluid is flowed from the engine to the accumulator via the second wheel to decelerate the turbocharger in response to a deceleration signal from the engine control unit. In one particular embodiment, the second wheel absorbs energy from the turbocharger in response to the deceleration signal from the engine control unit to decelerate the turbocharger. In some embodiments, the hydraulically operated wheels may be positioned on the same shaft of, and between, the turbine and compressor of the turbocharger.
