Systems and methods to provide and maintain secure financial transaction conducted with a credit card or other cashless payment mechanism at a vending machine or other potentially unattended vending or point of sale device. Encapsulated card readers providing end-to-end encryption capabilities encrypt transaction data for secure transmission to a transaction host or server. Pre-authorization transaction data checking maintains account numbers in a secure encrypted format further enhancing security. Protection mechanisms that guard against, and provide warnings of equipment tampering, while also providing a visual indication to customers regarding the security of the system.

Secure electronic cash-less payment systems and methods

A method of manufacturing VIGUs and IGUs comprises providing a first lite; providing a second lite spaced apart from the first lite to form a cavity therebetween; and encircling the lites with a one piece band. Spacers of a metal solder alloy or other reflowable material are inserted between the band and the perimeter edges of the lites. The assembly is heated in an evacuated environment, causing the spacers to melt and hermetically bond to the lites, but not until the cavity has been substantially evacuated.

Edge seal assemblies for hermetic insulating glass units and vacuum insulating glass units

An insulated glass unit (IGU) comprises a first pane of a transparent material and a second pane of a transparent material. The second pane is spaced apart from the first pane to define a cavity therebetween. At least one of a spacer and an array of stand-off members is disposed between the first and second panes to maintain separation therebetween. A first adhesive layer forms at least a portion of a gas-tight connection between the first pane and the second pane. A highly gas-restrictive coating is disposed over the adhesive layer, where the coating is an inorganic layer.

A vacuum insulated glass unit (VIGU) comprises a first pane of a transparent material and a second pane of a transparent material. The second pane is spaced apart from the first pane to define a cavity therebetween. At least one of a spacer and an array of stand-off members is disposed between the first and second panes to maintain separation therebetween. A first adhesive layer forms at least a portion of a gas-tight connection between the first pane and the second pane. A highly hermetic coating is disposed over the adhesive layer, where the coating is an inorganic layer.

A vacuum insulating glazing unit (VIGU) comprises first and second panes of transparent material, first and second anchors, a plurality of filaments, a plurality of stand-off elements, and seals. The first and second panes of transparent material have edges and inner and outer faces, are disposed with their inner faces substantially opposing one another, and are separated by a gap having a predetermined height. The first and second anchors are disposed at opposite edges of one pane of the VIGU. Each filament is attached at one end to the first anchor and at the other end to the second anchor, and the filaments are collectively disposed between the panes substantially parallel to one another. The stand-off elements are affixed to each filament at predetermined positions along the filament, and have a height substantially equal to the predetermined height of the gap such that the each stand-off element touches the inner surfaces of both panes. The seals are disposed about the edges of the panes, enclosing the stand-off elements within a volume between the panes from which the atmosphere may be evacuated to form a partial vacuum.

A flexible edge seal is provided for a vacuum insulating glazing unit having a first glass pane and a second glass pane spaced-apart from the first. The edge seal comprises a seal member formed of a hermetically bondable material and having a first end, a second end and a center section disposed therebetween. The first end is hermetically bondable to a first glass pane. The second end is hermetically bondable to a second glass pane. The center section comprises a plurality of convolutes.

Flexible edge seal for vacuum insulating glazing units

An insulating glass unit having a decorative pattern visible to the unaided eye. The glass unit comprises a pair of glass sheets disposed in a parallel, but spaced apart arrangement, thereby defining a gap between their respective inner surfaces. The glass unit further comprises a frame attached around the periphery of both sheets to form a sealed cavity. A first plurality of dots are disposed within the sealed cavity. Each dot of the first plurality is attached to the inner surface of one of the sheets, and has a height substantially equal to the width of the gap. A second plurality of dots are disposed within the sealed cavity. Each dot of the second plurality is attached to the inner surface of one of the sheets and has a height less than the width of the gap. The dots of the second plurality are arranged so as to form a pattern on the sheet that is visible to the unaided eye.

A hermetically sealed multi-pane window assembly comprises first and second windowpane sheets formed of transparent materials. A first sealing member has an inner edge and an outer edge, the inner edge being hermetically attached around the periphery of the first windowpane sheet by diffusion bonding. A second sealing member has an inner edge and an outer edge, the inner edge being hermetically attached around the periphery of the second windowpane sheet by diffusion bonding and the outer edge being hermetically attached to the outer edge of the first sealing member. A spacer assembly is disposed between the first and the second windowpane sheets for maintaining a gap therebetween, whereby a hermetically sealed cavity is defined between the first and the second windowpanes.

Insulated glazing units

A method for manufacturing a hermetically sealed micro-device package encapsulating a micro-device. The package includes a transparent window allowing light to pass into and out of a cavity containing the micro-device. A first frame-attachment area is prepared on semiconductor substrate having a micro-device operably disposed thereupon, the first frame-attachment area having a plan that circumscribes the micro-device. A second frame-attachment area is prepared on a sheet of transparent material, the second frame-attachment area having a plan that circumscribes a window aperture portion of the sheet. A frame/spacer is positioned between the semiconductor substrate and the sheet, the frame/spacer including a continuous sidewall having a plan on one side substantially corresponding to, and substantially in register with, the plan of the first frame-attachment area, having a plan on the opposite side substantially corresponding to, and substantially in register with, the plan of the second frame-attachment area, and having a height that exceeds the height of the micro-device. Next the substrate, frame/spacer and window are bonded together to form a hermetically sealed package encapsulating the micro-device in a cavity below the window aperture portion of the transparent sheet.

The present invention may generally be thought of as a software reference tool that enables users to easily understand XML and other file types, including proprietary file types, and that provides the user the capability to map from one file type to another by using system templates that correspond to each file type. The data mapped from one file type to another has been pre-programmed or selected by the user to include only the data elements that are key to the transaction involved.

A method for manufacturing a cover assembly including a transparent window portion and a frame of gas-impervious material that can be hermetically attached to a micro-device package base to form a hermetically sealed micro-device package. First, a frame of gas-impervious material is provided, the frame having a continuous sidewall defining a frame aperture there through. The sidewall includes a frame seal-ring area circumscribing the frame aperture. A sheet of a transparent material is also provided, the sheet having a window portion defined thereupon. The window portion has finished top and bottom surfaces. A sheet seal-ring area is prepared on the sheet, the sheet seal-ring area circumscribing the window portion. The frame is positioned against the sheet such that at least a portion of the frame seal-ring area and at least a portion of the sheet seal-ring area contact one another along a continuous junction region that circumscribes the window portion. The frame is pressed against the sheet with sufficient force to produce a predetermined contact pressure between the frame seal-ring area and the sheet seal-ring area along the junction region. The junction region is heated to produce a predetermined temperature along the junction region. The predetermined contact pressure and the predetermined temperature are maintained until a diffusion bond is formed between the frame and sheet all along the junction region.

Hermetically sealed micro-device package with window

A cover assembly for welding to a package base to form a hermetically sealed micro-device package. The cover assembly includes a sheet of a transparent material having a window portion. A built-up metallic frame adheres to the sheet and circumscribes the window portion, the frame having been deposited as follows: First, powdered metal particles are sprayed onto a prepared area of the sheet using a gas jet at a temperature below the fusing temperature of the particles, the jet having a velocity sufficient to cause the particles to merge with one another upon impact with the sheet and with one another to form an initial continuous metallic coating adhering to the prepared area of the sheet. Next, successive metal particles are applied over the initial coating using the jet to form the frame incorporating the initial continuous metallic coating as its base and having an predetermined overall thickness.
