A portable radio includes a housing having a front display. The front display includes a liquid crystal display structure, a first layer of touch panel rear glass disposed exterior to the liquid crystal display structure, and a second layer of touch panel front glass disposed exterior to the first layer of touch panel rear glass. The second layer of touch panel front glass provides a viewable surface and user interface. The front display also includes a vacuum layer disposed between the first layer of touch panel rear glass and the second layer of touch panel front glass, and a plurality of spacers disposed in the vacuum layer that maintain a gap. The front display also includes a seal that at least partially seals and maintains a vacuum within the vacuum layer.

A video recorder () is configured and assembled to provide improved ventilation for cooling and improved protection against liquid intrusion. The video recorder is formed of a main chassis housing, a top cover, and a bezel for coupling the top cover to the main chassis housing. Once assembled, channels are formed which provide paths for both liquid egress and airflow intake. The channels allow airflow into fan intake openings located within a top portion of the main chassis housing. The channels further provide for liquid to be diverted away from the fan intake openings.

Flexible mounting apparatus for mounting an antenna

A circuit board connector assembly mounted in a housing and method of mounting are described. The assembly has orthogonal first and second circuit boards (CB). The CB has a CB connector containing a CB housing with CB electrical contacts. A flexible electrical link has a link connector mounted in a link connector housing with link electrical contacts. A resilient pad is mounted on a link connector housing and a flexible sheet is mounted to both the pad and the link. The sheet spans a length of the link. When the length of the link is substantially planar, the sheet provides a ramp tapering away from the pad. During mounting of the assembly in the housing, the CB connector is operatively coupled to the link connector thereby forming a first connector assembly, and an abutment edge of the second circuit board slidably engages the sheet thereby compressing the pad.

Circuit board connector assembly and method for assembling such an assembly

An electronic device having a housing with a shroud locator socket. There is a retractable elongate radio frequency radiating element passing through an aperture of the shroud locator socket, the retractable elongate radio frequency radiating element being electrically connected to an electrical circuit located in the housing and being movable from a fully retracted position when substantially located in the housing to a fully extended position when substantially protruding outside the housing. An end cap is located on a free end of the retractable elongate radio frequency radiating element and there is a shroud having transverse ribs that are transverse to a longitudinal axis (X) of the retractable elongate radio frequency radiating element. The shroud covers a protected length (L) of the retractable elongate radio frequency radiating element proximal to the end cap. The shroud extends and tapers away from the end cap towards the shroud locator socket and the shroud operatively engages the shroud locator socket when the retractable elongate radio frequency radiating element is in the fully retracted position.

A submersible electrical connector assembly () includes an electrical connector () mounted to a first substrate () where a second substrate () adjoins the first substrate (). The second substrate () is comprised of a pliable material that acts as a seal. The first substrate and second substrate are positioned within a compartmentalized area of an electrical device housing for preventing water or other fluid from entering an aperture within the housing. Although water may inadvertently enter the electrical connector (), the connector assembly () is substantially submersible since water is prevented from entering the housing () as used for an electronic device.

Assembly for sealing an audio connector within an electronic device

A high reliability battery contact assembly () for use in an electronic device includes a battery contact block () comprised of a plurality of cantilevered contacts (). A redundant ground contact () is connected to the metallic housing of the electronic device () and positioned adjacent to the battery contact block (). The cantilevered contacts include a primary power contact (), a sensing contact () and a ground contact (). The battery contact assembly () is advantageous in that it requires a very limited amount of surface area while still working to prevent a reset condition of an electronic device that might occur due to a loss in electrical continuity during adverse conditions.

High reliability battery contact assembly and method of forming same

An apparatus for engaging and disengaging a first connector half () from a second connector half () includes a first ramp () and second ramp () for each connector half. The first and second ramps () have frictional properties and geometries which cancel forces to provide for automatic separation of the ramps during connection of the two connector halves. For disconnection, the first and second ramps translate a horizontal push force () at the ends of the ramps into an upward motion so as to disengage the first connector half () from the second connector half ().
