A fluid collection apparatus for the controlled collection of body fluids comprising a collection vessel housed in a carrier, a vacuum pump mounted in the carrier, and means for powering pump for continuous operation mounted therein. The collection vessel includes a valved exit port, and inlet port connected to a body mounted fluid collection apparatus, a vacuum control means, liquid level control means an tilt sensing means all operatively connected. Also described are a vented drainage valve assembly, and sound and odor absorbing components.

Fluid collection system

A unitary centrifuge tube and separable sediment dispenser comprises a generally tubular portion with a conical taper connected by a short tube to a sediment receptacle. The receptacle is designed to be easily separated from the centrifuge tube by twisting the receptacle and centrifuge tube with respect to each other. A short segment of the connecting tube which remains attached to the sediment receptacle allows convenient dispensing of the enclosed sediment by squeezing two opposed walls of the container. A second pair of opposed transverse sidewalls is designed to resist flexing during the separation.

Unitary centrifuge tube and separable dispensing receptacle

A light-weight, disposable face shield assembly for the protection of the eyes and face of a wearer from accidental exposure to infections, hazardous or undesirable substances. The shield assembly includes an elongated, generally rectangular, semi-flexible, transparent face protection panel having a central panel section and like side panel sections which are foldable rearwardly with respect to the central panel section and a semi-flexible head support strip for the face protection panel in alignment with the upper portion of such panel. The head support strip has its ends affixed to the ends of the face protection panel and is of a length that is less than the length of such panel. The head support strip also includes a central strip portion and like side strip portions which are foldable rearwardly with respect to the central strip portion with the fold lines of the head support strip lying within the fold lines of the face protection panel. An elastic head band is affixed to the ends of the head support strip for maintaining such strip in position about the forehead of a wearer of the face shield assembly whereby the face protection panel is formed up into rigidly-supported, arcuate spaced protection orientation about the face of a wearer.

Light-weight disposable protective face shield

The unitary device includes a generally tubular container having a generally central specimen collection space communicating with the open upper end of the container, and a microscope slide member below and integral with the container and having transparent flat front and rear walls throughout at least a portion thereof, and a central cavity therebetween communicating with the container space through the lower end of the container. The container is adapted to serve as a centrifugation tube and a permanent handle for manipulation of the microscope slide member. The back of the device is generally flat and the front and sides of the collection tube are generally rounded. In one embodiment, the device is of thermoformed plastic and may include a flexible front wall in the microscope slide member, overlaid by a removable flexible support strip attached thereto by spaced ribs of adhesive so that such front wall ripples and flexes during removal of the strip to uniformly mix sediment collected in the cavity. The depth of the microscope slide member may be decreased by a stepped portion in the back thereof.

Integral specimen collection tube and microscope slide device

A light-weight, disposable face shield assembly for the protection of the eyes and face of wearers from accidental exposure to infectious, hazardous or undesirable substances. The shield includes a semi-flexible shield frame surrounding a semi-flexible, transparent face protection panel and a semi-flexible head support strip having an operative length less than the length of the upper horizontal frame portion and positioned adjacent the rear side thereof. The support strip is affixed at its ends to the shield assembly proximate the ends of the upper frame portion. Flexible face shield ties are affixed to the shield assembly proximate each end of the upper frame portion for tie joinder at the rear of the head of the wearer of the shield assembly, such shield ties upon oppositely pulling and tie joinder together behind the head of the shield wearer resulting in the forming up of the shield frame member with the face protection panel in arcuate spaced orientation from the head support strip about the face of the wearer in rigidly supported fashion by the head support strip.

An ureteral stent comprises an elongated, flexible tubular member which has one end with a magnetically attractable tip. Both ends of the stent are preferably both set in the form of hooks. A method of removing the stent from the bladder of a patient comprises introducing a retrieving catheter with a magnet at its proximal tip into the urethra, advancing the proximal tip of the catheter into the bladder which is signalled by urine flowing into the catheter, catching the magnetically attractable tip of the stent with the magnet and removing the stent by withdrawing the catheter with the magnetically attractable tip of the stent held by the magnet of the catheter.

Ureteral stent

A urine aspiration system for the management of urinary incontinence comprising an absorptive pad adapted to temporarily receive and retain urine until it is drawn from the pad by an associated vacuum source. The pad comprises an absorptive core encased within a covering of hydrophobic material such as polyethylene sheet material. The upper cover sheet of the casing has a myriad of perforations to render it permeable to liquid, while the lower backing cover sheet is impermeable. Tubing from the vacuum source is coupled to a central opening of the pad so that urine may be readily drawn out of the pad when the vacuum source is activated, leaving the outer covering of the pad feeling dry and comfortable to the patient. A collection vessel is mounted between the vacuum source and the pad to collect the urine drawn from the pad.

Fluid aspiration system for the management of urinary incontinence

A one-time-use, disposable hypodermic syringe assembly in pre-packaged, pre-injection arrangement is provided and comprises: a plastic syringe barrel with a hypodermic needle mounted in its forward injection delivery end, the injection point of such needle projecting outwardly and forwardly of the barrel and the butt end of such needle projecting rearwardly within the barrel; a medicament-filled ampule positioned within the syringe barrel and having a pierceable diaphragm closure at its forward end and a piston-type stopper at its rearward end; and a plunger removably mounted on the outside of the syringe barrel and providing means while so mounted for locking the ampule, at its diaphragm closure end, out of piercing contact with the rearwardly extending butt end of the hypodermic needle, the plunger having means for connecting with the piston-type stopper of the ampule for use in moving the ampule, after removal of the plunger from its ampule-locking position on the syringe barrel, forwardly to effect piercing of the diaphragm by the butt end of the needle and thereafter in moving the piston-type stopper within the ampule to express medicament out of the ampule and through the needle for injection purposes.

Hypodermic syringe assembly

A system for recording heart sounds from a stethoscope-type device and reproducing selected heartbeats stretched out in time but with the same pitch as recorded. In one embodiment the heart sounds are sampled and converted to a digital representations which are recorded on a tape recorder at a first speed. The tape recorder is of the endless loop recording and playback type. At a signal from the user, the tape recorder plays back at a reduced speed the last few heartbeats which are recorded. These are converted to analog signals and fed back to the transducer in the stethoscope for reproduction as natural heartbeat sounds merely stretched in time. Another system records the heartbeat sounds on a rotating recorder such as a magnetic drum. The magnetic transducer may be driven at variable speeds so that, when activated by the user, the speed of the playback transducer is reduced relative to the speed of the transducer during recording, without reducing the rotational speed of the drum. Thus, the pitch of the heart sounds is not affected, although they are stretched out in time. Another embodiment utilizes a delay line for temporary storage with scanning of selected taps in the delay line for storage of selected samples in the memory. Upon activation by the user, the stored samples in the memory are read out at a reduced rate, filtered for smoothing, and fed back to the stethoscope transducer for reproduction as stretched heartbeat signals at the original pitch.

An improved roller skate assembly in either shoe skate or skate board form is provided which includes a plurality of roller wheels, a frame securing the wheels in spaced relation for rotation and one or more spark generators, each comprising an abrasive surfaced disc or the like connected to a non-load bearing surface of one of the wheels and a sparking element such as a flint or material capable of generating colored sparks releasably held by a resilient flexible holder adjacent the abrasive surface of the disc. The holder vibrates during skating, due to ground shocks transmitted to it through the frame, bringing the sparking element into intermittent contact with the abrasive to intermittently generate sparks for a spectacular unusual effect. The holder preferably includes a metal or plastic coil spring and a fitting which releasably holds the flint and can be adjusted to reposition the flint as it wears. Alternatively, the flint can be in the form of a ball, preferably rotatable and held by a bracket attached to the spring. In another embodiment, the holder includes an arm hinged at one end to the frame, depending therefrom diagonally and supported by a depending spring. The opposite end of the holder bears the fitting and flint or other sparking element. The assembly is inexpensive, durable and economical; and it produces a pleasing, exciting unusual effect when being utilized.

Spark-generating roller skate assembly

A device for collecting a urine specimen, which is particularly adapted for females, is configured and adapted for use while the user is sitting on a toilet in the normal position for voiding. The device comprises a collector and a specimen container and selectively collects the clean, contaminant-free mid-stream portion of urine in the container. The urine specimen container is releasably secured to the collector at a bleed-off conduit extending from a collection exit in a uring receiving chamber of the collector. This exit is positioned in the chamber above a urine bleed-off exit in the conduit adapted for receiving and discarding the first-voided portion of urine at a controlled rate. The collection exit is remote from the bleed-off conduit exit, is shielded from urine splashing into the chamber, and is below a urine overflow exit in the chamber which leads to an overflow conduit. The chamber is preferably open topped and is adapted to be supported on the specimen container. A suitable handle extends radially outward from the chamber to facilitate holding the device in use. The handle and chamber configuration is symmetrical so as to be equally convenient for right-handed and left-handed users. The device is inexpensive, simple and disposable; and the chamber, bleed-off conduit, overflow conduit and handle can be integrally molded in a single operation. The specimen container and its lid can be separately formed. The entire structure is such that the lid can be easily sealed to the container after use and the collector thereafter removed and discarded.

Urine specimen collecting device and method of use

A device for collecting a urine specimen, which is particularly adapted for females, is configured and adapted for use while the user is sitting on a toilet in the normal position for voiding. The device comprises a collector and a specimen container, preferably integrally assembled together. In use the device selectively collects the clean, contaminant-free mid-stream portion of urine in the container. The urine specimen container is releasably secured to the collector at a bleed-off conduit extending from a collection exit in a urine receiving chamber of the collector. This exit is positioned in the chamber above a urine bleed-off exit in the conduit adapted for receiving and discarding the first-voided portion of urine at a controlled rate. Means are provided for directing into the toilet all of the voided urine in excess of that which is retained in the specimen container, including the discarded first-voided portion. A suitable handle extends radially outward from the collector to facilitate holding the device in the preferred attitude for use. In one embodiment, a flow director is included to deflect the first-voided portion from entering the specimen container.

Urine specimen collecting device

A device for collecting a urine specimen, which is particularly adapted for females, is configured and adapted for use while the user is sitting on a toilet in the normal position for voiding. The device selectively collects the clean, contaminant-free mid-stream portion of urine. The device includes a urine specimen container releasably secured to a conduit extending from a collection exit in a urine receiving chamber. This exit is positioned in the chamber above a urine bleed-off exit adapted for removing the first portion of urine at a controlled rate. The collection exit is remote from the bleed-off exit, is shielded from urine splashing thereinto, as by a dome-shaped cap releasably secured thereover, and is below a urine overflow exit in the chamber. The chamber preferably is open topped and is supported on a hollow base within which the specimen container is disposed. An upwardly curved handle extends out from the chamber. The device is inexpensive, simple and disposable and the chamber, base, conduit and handle can be integrally molded in a single operation. The shield and specimen container can be separately formed.
