A method of treating a mercaptan-containing sour petroleum distillate is disclosed which method comprises the steps of contacting the distillate at oxidation conditions with a catalytic composite comprising a metal chelate, at least about 10 wt. % of an alkali metal hydroxide, and an adsorptive support, prepared by admixing the support, metal chelate, alkali metal hydroxide, and an alcohol having fewer than about six carbon atoms, to form an admixture having less than about 25 wt. % water, and drying the admixture at a temperature of less than about 30.degree. C.

Method for treating mercaptans contained in a sour petroleum distillate

A catalytic composite comprising a metal chelate mercaptan oxidation catalyst impregnated on a basic anion exchange resin is disclosed. The catalytic composite is particularly useful to effect the oxidation of mercaptans contained in a sour petroleum distillate.

Catalytic composite and process for use

Disclosed are a catalytic composite, and a method of preparing a catalytic composite, useful in the treatment of sour mercaptan-containing petroleum distillates, and a method of using the catalytic composite in treating sour petroleum distillates. More specifically, the method of preparation comprises contacting a molecular sieve support with a specified substituted ammonium compound, drying the resulting composite, thereafter contacting the resulting composite with an alkali metal hydroxide and a metal chelate, the alkali metal hydroxide being in a weight ratio with the adsorptive support of from about 0.1:1 to about 1:1, and thereafter drying the resulting catalytic composite. A sour petroleum distillate can be treated with the catalytic composite by contacting the distillate at oxidation conditions with the catalytic composite.

Disclosed are a metal chelate-alkali metal hydroxide-quaternary ammonium hydroxide, catalytic composite, a method of manufacturing the catalytic composite, and a process of treating sour petroleum distillates utilizing the catalytic composite. The catalytic composite comprises a metal chelate, a quaternary ammonium hydroxide, and an alkaline metal hydroxide disposed on a molecular sieve, the alkali metal hydroxide comprising at least about 10 wt. % of the catalytic composite. The method of manufacturing the catalytic composite comprises contacting a molecular sieve with a metal chelate, a quaternary ammonium hydroxide, and a mixture of alkali metal hydroxide and at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of water and alcohols with fewer than 6 carbon atoms, the alkali metal hydroxide comprising a sufficient portion of said mixture such that said alkali metal hydroxide comprises at least about 10 wt. % of said resulting catalytic composite. The method of treating sour petroleum distillates comprises contacting the distillates at oxidation conditions with the catalytic composite described above.

Disclosed is a method of preparing a catalytic composite useful in the treatment of sour mercaptan-containing petroleum distillates. More specifically, the method of preparation comprises contacting an adsorptive support with a substituted ammonium hydroxide, drying the resulting composite, thereafter contacting the resulting composite with an alkali metal hydroxide and a metal chelate, the alkali metal hydroxide being in a weight ratio with the adsorptive support of from about 0.1:1 to about 1:1, and thereafter drying the resulting catalytic composite.

Method of manufacturing a catalytic composite

Disclosed are a method of preparing a catalytic composite useful in the treatment of sour mercaptan-containing petroleum distillates, and a method of using the catalytic composite in treating sour petroleum distillates. More specifically, the method of preparation comprises contacting an adsorptive support with a specified substituted ammonium compound, such as dimethylbenzylalkylammonium chloride drying the resulting composite, thereafter contacting the resulting composite with an alkali metal hydroxide and a metal chelate, such as a metal phthalocyanine the alkali metal hydroxide being in a weight ratio with the adsorptive support of from about 0.1:1 to about 1:1, and thereafter drying the resulting catalytic composite. A sour petroleum distillate can be treated with the catalytic composite by contacting the distillate at oxidation conditions with the catalytic composite.

A process for treating a mercaptan-containing sour petroleum distillate is disclosed. The distillate is treated in contact with a solid composite prepared by impregnating high density activated charcoal particles with a metal phthalocyanine catalyst from an aqueous solution thereof.

Process for treating a sour petroleum distillate

A method of treating a sour petroleum distillate for the conversion of mercaptans contained therein is disclosed. The distillate is treated in contact with an oxidizing agent and a catalytic composite comprising a metal chelate mercaptan oxidation catalyst impregnated on a basic anion exchange resin.

Conversion of mercaptans contained in a sour petroleum distillate

A method of preparing a supported metal phthalocyanine catalyst is disclosed. A metal phthalocyanine is impregnated on a solid adsorptive support from an aqueous impregnating solution or dispersion of said metal phthalocyanine containing from about 5 to about 50 wt. ppm. morpholine. The prepared catalyst is particularly useful in the treatment of a sour petroleum distillate or fraction.

Preparation of a supported metal phthalocyanine catalyst

A process for treating a mercaptan-containing sour petroleum distillate is disclosed. The process comprises contacting said distillate with a supported metal phthalocyanine catalyst in the presence of an alkaline reagent at oxidation conditions, said catalyst having been prepared by impregnating said phthalocyanine on a solid adsorptive support from an aqueous solution or dispersion of said phthalocyanine containing from about 5 to about 50 wt. ppm. morpholine.

A process for treating a mercaptan-containing sour petroleum distillate is disclosed. The process comprises contacting said distillate with a supported metal phthalocyanine catalyst in the presence of an alkaline reagent at oxidation conditions, said catalyst having been prepared by impregnating a solid adsorptive support with a common alcoholic solution of a metal phthalocyanine and a carboxylic acid.
