Delignification of biomass consisting of plants containing lignin is done by utilizing an amino compound in an aqueous solution or emulsion to produce water soluble amino lignin and non-soluble amino lignin cellulose which are utilized to produce adhesives and resins for use to produce wood composites and carbohydrate production.

Delignification of biomass containing lignin and production of adhesive and methods of making lignin cellulose compositions

Flame retardant and water resistant products are produced from bio-based materials such as lignin cellulose containing materials. The lignin cellulose materials are modified by the method of delignification. The method of this invention utilizes an amino compound in an aqueous solution to react with the lignin in the lignin cellulose and the amino lignin and freed lignin becomes water soluble. The amino compound also reacts with the non-water soluble lignin still attached to the cellulose and also to the cellulose that is produced. Other products are produced in this method such as carbohydrates, hemi-cellulose, rosins, waxes, alcohols and other products. The amino lignin, lignin, amino lignin and amino cellulose is reacted with many organic and inorganic compounds such as aldehydes, polyisocyanates, epoxies, polycarboxylic acids, vegetable oils and many other compounds to produce resins and adhesives which may be used to produce products such as molded products, particleboard, plywood, ABS, etc. which are flame retardant and water resistant.

Production of amino lignin and amino lignin cellulose resins and adhesives

Delignification of biomass consisting of lignin containing plant is done by utilizing an amino compound in and aqueous solution at ambient temperature up to 150 degree C. to produce and aqueous solution of amino salt of lignin and an amino-lignin-cellulose which is not soluble in water. The aqueous solution of amino salt of lignin is then filtered off of the amino-lignin-cellulose. The aqueous solution of amino salt of lignin or the amino salt of lignin with the amino-lignin-cellulose may be reacted with an aldehyde to produce an amino-lignin-aldehyde resin or an amino-lignin-cellulose aldehyde resin which may be of the thermoplastic or thermosetting type. The thermoplastic resins are fire resistant, hard, strong, not water soluble and may be used to make exterior fiberboard, OAS boards, plywood, molded products, etc. These urea salts of lignin may also be utilized as long acting fertilizer, to produce plastics and other products. The amino-lignin-cellulose may be hydrolyzed by any suitable means such as acid hydrolysis into carbohydrates which can be fermented in alcohol.

Flame retardant urethane compositions of this invention are produced by reacting a urea and/or urea condensate, a bio based compound and a polyisocyanate. The urea condensation compositions are produced by heating urea or heating urea to produce isocyanic acid and/or cyanic acid which reacts with urea to form urea condensates. The bio based compound are environmentally friendly, replaceable compound such as vegetable oils, molasses, sugar, lignin and hemi-cellulose. The urea and/or urea condensation compounds may be mixed with or reacted with carbonization auxiliaries. For example, polyurethane foams can be rendered less flammable with urea and/or urea condensation compounds and utilized as insulating and sound proofing materials.

Flame retardant urea-bio based urethane compositions

Ethanol is produced from biomass by the process of a heated aqueous solution containing 20 to 40 percent alkali metal hydroxide to break the lignin-cellulose bond. Then the biomass is heated further to remove carbon dioxide from the cellulose and lignin to produce a mixture of carbohydrates, modified sodium lignin, micro-cellulose, lignin-cellulose resinous products and sodium carbonate. Water is added to the mixture and most of the mixture is water soluble. An acidic salt forming compound is added to the aqueous solution until a pH of 3-7 is obtained. The lignin is precipitated. The lignin-cellulose resinous products float to the top and is skimmed off. The solution containing the carbohydrates and salt is decanted off the lignin and is concentrated by evaporating off water. The carbohydrates crystalizes from the solution and the water and salt is filtered off. Water is added to the carbohydrates then it is fermented to form ethanol. The ethanol is recovered from the water by evaporation.

Production of carbohydrates, alcohol and resins from biomass

Aqueous or solid nitrogen containing compound compounds are produced by heating urea with wet solid sewer sludge thereby producing a urea-urea condensate-sewer sludge composition in a process to dry out the sewer sludge. The urea reacts with itself and with the compounds in the sewer sludge. The urea and/or urea condensate reacts with the sulfur containing compounds thereby reducing the odor from heating the sewer sludge. The urea-urea condensate-sewer sludge composition is useful as a bio-fertilizer, may be utilized to fight grass, forest, building fires, flame retard other flammable organic material by applying it on or incorporating it in these flammable organic materials and may be reacted with aldehydes to produce resins. Carbonization auxiliaries, such as phosphorus containing compounds, metal containing compounds that will accelerate carbonization, heat reflector, surfactant and fillers may be added to or reacted with the aqueous or solid urea-urea condensate-sewer sludge composition.

Urea condensate-sewer sludge products

Fatty oil and acids, glycerol, glycols, lactic acid, urea, fertilizer, carbohydrates, ethanol are recovered or produced from sewer sludge by the process of concentrating and filtering out the solid sewer sludge, hydrolysis of the cellulose in the sewer sludge by an alkali or acid catalyst to carbohydrates, fermentation of the carbohydrates to produce ethanol, then recover the ethanol by distillation or membrane technology. The glycerol, glycols and lactic acids are recovered by membrane technology. The polysacchride carbohydrates are hydrolyzed to monosacchrides then fermented to alcohol. The unsoluble sewer sludge and the salts such as ammonium sulfate, nitrogen containing compounds and urea from the aqueous solution left after the ethanol is distilled off are mixed, dried and utilized as fertilizer.

Production of products from sewer sludge

A flame retardant composition is produced by mixing a flammable organic material with an organic phosphorus-inorganic phosphorus oxyacid compound or its salts. The organic phosphorus-inorganic phosphorus oxyacid compounds are produced by reacting an organic phosphorus compound with an inorganic phosphorus oxyacid. The organic phosphorus-inorganic phosphorus oxyacid compound may be reacted with a basic salt forming compound. The flammable organic material such as thermoplastic resins are made less flammable by melting-kneading the flammable material with the organic phosphorus-inorganic phosphorus oxyacid compound or it's basic salt, carbonization auxiliaries, a metal-containing compound having a carbonization acceleration effect, a comb-like polymer and a filler.

Organic phosphorus-inorganic phosphorus oxyacids compounds and compositions

The amino-aldehyde-phosphate resins and copolymers are produced by reacting an amino compound, an aldehyde and a phosphorus oxyacid, These components may be reacted at ambient or elevated temperature or at ambient, elevated or reduced pressure. They may be produced in the form of water based pre-polymer, a clear resin or as granules or powder. These resins are flame retardant and may be added to or applied on to flammable organic materials to make them flame retardant. The amino-aldehyde-phosphate resins and copolymers may be utilized as coating agent, as an adhesive, films, laminates and as flame retardant compounds.

Production of amino-aldehyde-phosphate resins and copolymers

Flame retardant compositions of this invention are produced by incorporating a urea-organic compound condensate into a flammable organic material. The urea-organic compounds condensate are produced by heating urea and organic compounds that will condensate with or react with isocyanic acid and/or cyanic acid or heating urea first then reacting the condensation compounds with other organic compounds. The urea-organic compound condensate may be mixed with or reacted with carbonization auxiliaries, aldehydes and fillers to produce a urea-organic compound condensate composition which is incorporated in more flammable organic compositions such as polyurethanes, polyester resins, epoxy resins, vinyl resins and other resins. The urea-organic compound condensate salts of phosphorus, boron or sulfur containing compounds and the urea-organic compound condensate-aldehyde resins may also be used as the flame retardant compound in this invention. For example, polyurethane foams can be rendered less flammable with the urea-organic compound condensate or compositions and utilized as insulating materials.

Flame retardant compositions utilizing amino condensation compounds

Flame retardant organic phosphorus-phosphorus oxyacid compounds are produced by mixing and reacting a phosphorus halide, phosphorus oxyacid and an organic compound. This organic phosphorus-phosphorus oxyacid compound may be reacted with a basic compound to produce a flame retardant salt of organic phosphorus-phosphorus oxyacid. The organic phosphorus-phosphorus oxyacid and/or it's salt may be mixed with or applied on a flammable organic material to make it less flammable. A flame retardant composition may be produced by mixing or reacting the organic phosphorus-phosphorus oxyacid or it's salt with carbonization auxiliaries, carbonization accelerators, comb-like polymer and a filler. This composition may be mixed in or applied on a flammable organic material to make it less flammable.

Organic phosphorus-phosphorus oxyacid compounds

Aqueous or solid nitrogen containing compound urea condensate salt of sulfur oxyacid and/or aqueous or solid nitrogen containing compound urea condensate salt of sulfur oxyacid composition may be utilized to fight grass, forest, building fires, and flame retard other flammable organic material by applying it on or incorporating it in these flammable organic materials. The aqueous or solid nitrogen containing compound urea condensate salt of sulfur oxyacid and/or aqueous or solid nitrogen containing compound urea condensate salt of sulfur oxyacid composition may be incorporated into flammable materials such as solid and foam plastic and natural materials. Nitrogen containing compound urea condensate salts of sulfur oxyacid or it's composition are produced by mixing and reacting urea and a nitrogen containing compound with sulfur oxyacids and it's composition is produce by adding and mixing carbonization auxiliaries, such as phosphorus containing compounds, metal containing compounds that will accelerate carbonization, heat reflector, surfactant and fillers to the aqueous or solid nitrogen containing compound urea condensate salt of sulfur oxyacid.

Flammable organic material is made less flammable by incorporating a polynitrogen containing salt of polyboron oxyacid in or on the material. The polynitrogen containing salt of polyboron oxyacid is produced by reacting a boron oxyacid or salt of boron oxyadd with a nitrogen containing salt forming compound such as ammonia, amino compounds and amines in water. Both the polynitrogen radical and the boron oxyacid radical are both flame retardant agents. The polynitrogen salt of boron oxyacids may be used to form a flame retardant compositions by mixing it with carbonization auxiliaries and fillers. The polyammoniun alkali metal salts of polyboron oxyacids are useful as flame retardant agents and as a surfactant.

Aqueous urea and/or aqueous urea condensate and/or aqueous urea composition may be utilized to fight grass, forest, building, and other flammable organic material by applying it to these flammable organic materials. The aqueous urea and/or aqueous urea condensate and/or aqueous composition may also be incorporated into flammable materials such as solid and foam plastic and natural materials. Aqueous urea composition are produced by adding and mixing carbon auxiliaries, such as phosphorus containing compounds, metal containing compounds that will accelerate carbonization, heat reflector, surfactant and fillers to the aqueous urea.
