A bicycle wheel hub assembly having a number of light emitting diodes (LED's) that are powered by rotation of the wheel during use of the bicycle. The hub assembly includes a magnet and a coil that are both internal to the hub. The light emitting diodes are powered by current induced in the coil and controlled so as to preferably prevent illumination of discrete LED's when the respective LED's are directed toward a user during rotation of the hub. The LED's are supported by the hub and rotate with the hub during rotation of the wheel. In some embodiments, the LED's are attached to the hub at locations that are both laterally inboard and laterally outboard relative to a spoke flange of the hub assembly.

Lighted bicycle wheel hub assembly

A bicycle frame assembly that includes at least one joint having a number of steps and laps formed between adjoining frame members. A first frame member includes a male portion of the joint and has at least three steps that are separated by rises between adjacent steps formed on an exterior surface of the first frame member. A second frame member includes a female portion of the joint and has the same number of steps and rises as the first frame member formed on an interior surface of the second frame member. The steps and rises of the first and second frame members are constructed and orientated so that the first frame member slidably cooperates with the second frame member to form a continuous multidirectional joint therebetween.

A fiber reinforced plastic bicycle wheel rim is formed of six segments per side and formed in a section having precisely formed, machinable brake surfaces and preferably combining inner high modulus fiber reinforced plastic lamination as a main structural body and an outer lamination of improved frictional coefficient materials at the braking surfaces. The main structural body with overlapped individual sheets of unidirectional fiber reinforced plastic, having crossing fibers, in segments, and continuous unidirectional fiber bundles in areas of concentrated load, enables strong, light wheels for sew up or clincher tires to be formed.

An internal spoke nipple for a bicycle rim that is positioned internal to the rim and can be pivoted for alignment with various spoke angles. The internal spoke nipple is adapted to be positioned within an aero or deep V-shaped rim. The spoke nipple includes a cupped shaped base portion and a stem portion. The cupped base portion allows the internal spoke nipple to automatically align with the angle of the attached spoke, eliminating undesirable lateral forces on the spoke. The internal spoke nipple further comprises a fully threaded central bore that is adapted to engage and retain the spoke. The stem portion includes a plurality flat side walls that are adapted to accept a spoke wrench, to allow for adjustment of spoke tension.
