The hill-holding mechanism of the present invention comprises an apparatus and methodology for actuating a transmission control element to prevent the output shaft of an automatic transmission in a hybrid vehicle from rotating under certain predetermined circumstances.

Methods and apparatus for hill-holding transmission

An improved surge suppression control for a motor vehicle drivetrain detects and suppresses drivetrain oscillation in a predetermined range of frequencies centered on an estimate of the natural frequency of the drivetrain. The drivetrain natural frequency is determined based on the current speed ratio of the vehicle transmission and empirically determined vehicle characteristics, and is used to define the center frequency of a band-pass filter responsive to engine speed. The filter output represents the AC component of the engine speed in a range of frequencies centered on the driveline natural frequency, and such component is differentiated to form an acceleration component in phase synchronism with the torque causing the detected resonance. An electric machine mechanically coupled to the engine is energized in accordance with the inverse of the acceleration component to actively cancel the detected resonance whenever the acceleration component exceeds a noise threshold that also is adjusted based on the estimated natural frequency of the drivetrain.

Surge suppression control for a motor vehicle drivetrain

A hybrid powertrain has an internal combustion engine, a power transmission and an electric drive. The electric drive includes a stator secured in the housing of the power transmission and a rotor secured to the outer periphery of the torque converter of the power transmission. Both the rotor and the impeller of the torque converter are directly connected with the engine. A torque converter clutch is disposed for selective engagement between the impeller and turbine of the torque converter.

Powertrain with integrated motor generator

A solenoid valve has a housing in which is disposed a coil, a sleeve valve and a plurality of hydraulic fluid passages. The passages are formed in a cylindrical core which is integral with and extends axially from an end wall of the housing. The sleeve valve is slidably mounted on the core and has a pair of annular recesses which are selectively positionable by valve movement to interconnect various combinations of passages for controlling hydraulic fluid flow. The sleeve valve has a metal ring secured thereto so that the sleeve valve will be moved in response to electric current flowing in the coil which surrounds a portion of the sleeve valve.

Solenoid valve

An air/fuel ratio controller for an internal combustion engine including two memories each having numbers stored at locations addressed by engine operating points with the locations addressed by the engine operating points being updated during closed loop operation in accord with the value of a closed loop adjustment of the air/fuel ratio. Each memory location in the first memory is updated during operation of the engine at the corresponding operating point in accord with an update time constant having a value so that the number stored tracks adjustment value producing the predetermined desired closed loop air/fuel ratio during varying values of engine operating parameters. Each memory location in the second memory is updated during operation of the engine at the corresponding operating point in accord with an update time constant having a value so that the number stored is the average of the values producing the predetermined closed loop air/fuel ratio during varying values of engine operating parameters. The first memory is used during closed loop operation to preset the closed loop adjustment at least when the engine first operates at an operating point and the second memory is utilized during open loop operation to adjust the air/fuel ratio by an amount determined at least in part by the number stored in the second memory at locations addressed by the engine operating point.
