Embodiments of the present disclosure provide an optical encoder for an electronic device. The optical encoder includes a spindle and an encoded pattern disposed around a circumference of the spindle. The encoded pattern may include one or more surface features that create a direction-dependent reflective region.

An electronic device may have a housing such as a metal housing. Openings may be formed in the housing to accommodate a button, to form a camera window, to form a microphone port, and to form a camera flash window. An input-output component mounting member may be used to mount input-output components to the housing of the electronic device. The input-output component mounting member may have a recess that mates with a corresponding protrusion on the housing. Screws may attach the input-output component mounting member to the housing. The protrusion and recess in the input-output component mounting member may ensure that the input-output component mounting member is accurately aligned with respect to the housing. Input-output components such as a microphone, button switch, camera, and camera flash may be mounted to the electronic device with the input-output component mounting member.

Systems are presented for improving side mirror functionality of a vehicle. In one embodiment, the systems involve a side mirror with an adjustable profile. The systems include an actuator for altering the adjustable profile of a mirror in response to signals from a sensor (e.g., a camera). The mirror is coupled to a side of the vehicle through the actuator. In another embodiment, the systems involve an integrated side mirror. The systems include a first transmissive optic, a second transmissive optic, and at least one optical element that enable a field of view to be seen through a portion of the vehicle. In an additional embodiment, the systems involve a display system for integrating side-mirror functionality into a display image. The display system includes an image processing unit and a display unit for forming a display image at a location visible to a driver. The display image includes a field of view imaged by a sensor. Other systems are presented.

An electronic device can include a camera and a cover glass arrangement disposed over the camera. The cover glass arrangement includes a thinner region or cover glass that is positioned over a light-receiving region of the camera. Additionally, the thinner region or cover glass can be disposed over the light-receiving region and at least parts of one or more non-light receiving regions of the camera.

A system such as a vehicle system may include a window. The window may have glass layers and an interposed polymer layer. Signal paths that contact the polymer layer may be formed within the window. The signal paths may be electrical signal paths formed from wires or patterned conductive traces. The conductive traces may be portions of an infrared-light-blocking layer formed from a conductive film or may be patterned from other conductive thin-film layers. The signal paths may include optical waveguides formed from optical fibers embedded in the polymer or transparent thin-film layers on the glass layers or other substrates. Openings may be formed in the glass layers to allow signal paths to pass to an electrical component. The electrical component may also be wirelessly coupled to the signal paths.

The cover panel may define a pre-bent configuration prior to being coupled to the housing. Thereby, the cover panel may be elastically bent during attachment to the housing. Thus, the cover panel may include internal forces as a result of the elastic bending that prevent the cover panel from bowing outwardly from the housing. An electrical board-to-board connector including a flexible cable assembly having a low profile or dimensionally reduced configuration. The connector body of a cable assembly may be widened to provide the structural rigidity sufficient to support an array of solder lead connections. Other support elements may be omitted from the cable assembly, which results in a reduced height dimension. The flexible cable assembly may also include a cowling used to retain the cable assembly against a circuit board. The cowling may also be configured to reduce the dimensions or dimensional footprint of the connection.
