The method includes, for example, receiving a plurality of planar medical images including a structure and displaying a first planar medical image. The method also includes determining and displaying a first two dimensional (2D) contour of the structure using a first single straight line segment between user-selected first and third locations in the first planar medical image. The method further includes determining and displaying a second 2D contour of the structure using a second single straight line segment between user-selected first and second locations in the first planar medical image. The method also includes determining a three dimensional (3D) contour of the structure using the second single straight line segment. The method further includes determining a long axis of the structure using the 3D contour and outputting a dimension of the long axis.

Systems and methods for volumetric segmentation of structures in planar medical images

A method for volumetric segmentation in a plurality of planar medical images includes, receiving, at an electronic processor, the plurality of planar medical images. A boundary of a candidate structure in the plurality of medical images is generated using a segmentation model. A first planar medical image from the plurality of planar medical images is displayed on a display. A user input is received using a user interface indicating a region in the first planar medical image. A first planar contour of the candidate structure is generated. The region is compared to the boundary. Responsive to the region being at least partially within the boundary, the first planar medical image is re-displayed on the display showing the first planar contour of the structure, and a finding record for the candidate structure including the boundary is generated.

Systems and methods for semi-automatic tumor segmentation

Methods and systems for volumetric segmentation of structures in planar medical images. One example method includes displaying a first planar medical image. The method further includes receiving a user input indicating a line segment in the first planar medical image. The method also includes determining an inclusion region using the line segment. The inclusion region consists of a portion of the structure. The method further includes determining a containment region using the line segment. The containment region includes the structure. The method also includes determining a background region using the line segment. The background region excludes the structure. The method further includes determining a three dimensional (3D) contour of the structure using the inclusion region, the containment region, and the background region. The method also includes determining a long axis of the structure using the 3D contour. The method further includes outputting a dimension of the long axis.

A method and system for incorporating voice commands into the interactive process of image segmentation. Interactive image segmentation involves a user pointing at an image; voice commands quicken this interaction by indicating the purpose and function of the pointing. Voice commands control the governing parameters of the segmentation algorithm. Voice commands guide the system to learn from the user's actions, and from the user's manual edits of the results from automatic segmentation.

System and method of voice activated image segmentation

A two-dimensional contouring tool that allows a user to maintain a minimum distance away (in 3D) from other structures. The contouring tool allows the user to rapidly define a series of contours that conform to the shape of one or more existing contours (or targets) with user-specified margin limits between the new contour and the existing contours (or targets).

A system and method of identifying anatomical structures in a patient. The method includes the acts of acquiring an image of the patient, the image including a set of image elements; segmenting the image to categorize each image elements according to its substance; computing the probability that the categorization of each image element is correct; resegmenting the image starting with image elements that have a high probability and progressing to image elements with lower probabilities; aligning at least one of the image elements with an anatomical atlas; and fitting the anatomical atlas to the segmented image.
