As disclosed herein is a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radio transceiver which may include a plurality of antennas operatively coupled to a first integrated circuit (IC). The first IC and the plurality of antennas may receive a first radio signal on a first radio frequency (RF) carrier and a second radio signal on a second RF carrier. The first RF carrier and the second RF carrier may be different carriers. The first radio signal and the second radio signal may have different bandwidths. The first IC may demodulate the first received radio signal to produce a first baseband signal and the second received radio signal to produce a second baseband signal. A second IC may be operatively coupled to the first IC and may recover data from at least the first baseband signal and the second baseband signal.

Multiple-input multiple-output radio transceiver

A MIMO radio transceiver to support processing of multiple signals for simultaneous transmission via corresponding ones of a plurality of antennas and to support receive processing of multiple signals detected by corresponding ones of the plurality of antennas. The radio transceiver provides, on a single semiconductor integrated circuit, a receiver circuit or path for each of a plurality of antennas and a transmit circuit or path for each of the plurality of antennas. Each receiver circuit downconverts the RF signal detected by its associated antenna to a baseband signal. Similarly, each transmit path upconverts a baseband signal to be transmitted by an assigned antenna.

An integrated front-end filter for a tuner provides an array of from several to a multitude of passbands, each for passing at least one but less than all channels designated in a band of frequencies. Each passband is exclusively selectable. The integrated front end filter includes at least one active filter unit with an active reactance element in either of fixed and variable filter configurations and a decoder coupled to said at least one active filter unit and being responsive to a control signal for selecting a one of the passbands. In one example a multitude of active filter units of fixed filter configuration provide the multitude of passbands. Each data is stored at a predetermined location and reproduced in response to a corresponding control data signal from a tuner controller. Each data characterizes one of the plurality of passbands. The filter element is switchable from one passband to another in response to the control data signal. Lower power dissipation and lesser requirements of an on-following integrated circuitry tuner permit a reduction of 'off chip' connections and cost.

Active inductor circuits for filtering in a cable tuner circuit

A cable tuner front end circuit is disclosed for receiving a radio frequency television input signal and for selectively amplifying the signal in dependence upon a predetermined level of the tuner circuit output signal. The tuner front end circuit having first and second radio frequency paths, where in dependence upon the predetermined level of the output signal, the input signal either propagating along the first path without amplification or the input signal propagating along the second path with low noise amplification. Such that, when amplification is not required the amplifier circuit is disabled thereby offering a savings in tuner circuit power consumption.

High linearity, low noise figure tuner front end circuit

Currently tuner circuits maintain normal power consumption while they are receiving RF signals and do not have provisions therein for disabling portions of their circuitry for reducing of power consumption. For example, during changing of channels, portions of the tuner are not used while the tuner is waiting for channel data. Thus, disabling portions of the circuit while the tuner is waiting for data serves to reduce power consumption of the tuner. Furthermore, tuner power consumption is reduced by determining whether a signal input to the tuner circuit requires amplification or not, or whether linearity in the amplifier can be sacrificed by a reduction in amplifier gain. Thus, a tuner circuit is provided that has control loop circuitry to execute control loops for controlling the gain and linearity of the tuner, as well as power consumption of circuitry therein.

Method of using control loops in a broadband cable tuner

Integrated circuit tuner with broad tuning range

Tunable upconversion mixers that have a controllable passband response and provide substantial image rejection, making costly post-mixing filtering at least optional, if not unnecessary for many applications. A single mixer is able to support several frequency bands (and/or be accurately tuned within one frequency band) by means of varying the capacitance in a tunable load circuit for the mixer circuit. The tunable mixer comprises a mixer circuit having inputs for receiving a signal to be upconverted and an oscillator signal to be mixed with the signal to be upconverted. The mixer generates a mixer output signal at a desired sideband frequency and an image signal at an image frequency. A tunable load circuit is coupled to the mixer circuit and responsive to a control signal to resonate and pass signals in a desired passband corresponding to the mixer output signal at the desired sideband frequency, and which attenuates signals in an attenuation band that includes the image signal at the undesired image frequency.

Tunable upconverter mixer with image rejection

A two stage amplifier for a portable or cellular phone is disclosed which is manufactured using a fast BiCMOS process suach as SiGe. A shunt circuit controlled by a switch is provided between a base of one of the amplifying transistors and a DC terminal to prevent it from operating in a Class B mode of operation when it is intended for the amplifier to be switched off.
