An EMI shield for an electronic system enclosure is disclosed. The EMI shield may include an electrically conductive panel with a plurality of air ventilation channels, which has an upstream airflow side and a downstream airflow side. The EMI shield may also include a first air ventilation channel with a first cross-sectional shape having a first cross-sectional area and a first depth. The EMI shield may further include a second air ventilation channel with a second cross-sectional shape, having a cross-sectional area greater than the first cross-sectional area, and a second depth larger than the first depth.

An apparatus for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) shielding, the apparatus comprising a first EMC shield with a plurality of substantially parallel interconnected finger elements spaced apart from one another. A second EMC shield with a plurality of substantially parallel interconnected finger elements spaced apart from one another. The first EMC shield coupled to the second EMC shield, wherein at least one finger element of the plurality of finger elements of the first EMC shield is situated between at least two finger elements of the plurality of finger elements of the second EMC shield and in parallel with the at least two finger elements such that a space is formed between the at least one finger element and at least one of the at least two finger elements.

Multiple-layered electromagnetic shielding

An improved carrier comprises a tray, an EMC component, and a bezel. The EMC component comprises a top spring set and a bottom spring set. Each spring set comprises a plurality of spring biased contacts connected by a plate and a bar so that each spring set moves in unison when depressed or released. Each tray has a first flange and a second flange and each of the flanges has a cut out portion. When an improved carrier is moved out of an array enclosure, the flanges depress the top spring of the EMC component of the carrier below. When the improved carrier is moved into the array enclosure, the flanges depress the top spring set of the carrier below until the top spring set of the carrier below is released by the cut-out portions of the flanges. When released, the top spring set of the carrier below contacts the bottom spring set of the carrier above to form a continuous EMC shield.

A caster assembly with a horizontally orientated arm is attached to a base plate of a rack during a travel state and a stored state. A leveling foot with a flat portion and a non-flat portion is inserted through a slot on the arm and a hole on the base plate such that during the travel state, the horizontal orientated arm is in a fully extended position, and during the stored state, the horizontal orientated arm is in a non-extended position.

A system is provided and includes a system chassis through which an airflow is defined, including a set of receiving units, a set of 3.5&#x2033; HDDs, each being disposed in a receiving unit of a portion of the set, and each having a profile that blocks a first quantity of the airflow, a set of 2.5&#x2033; HDDs, each being disposed in a receiving unit of a remaining portion of the set, and each having a profile that blocks a second quantity of the airflow, and a set of airflow blockage devices, each being respectively disposed within each of the receiving units of the remaining portion of the set, to each have a cavity defined therein in which the corresponding 2.5&#x2033; HDD is secured with a third quantity of the airflow traversing a surface thereof and a profile that blocks a fourth quantity of the airflow through the corresponding receiving unit.

A novel caster assembly with a horizontally orientated arm is attached to a base plate of a rack during a travel state and a stored state. A leveling foot with a flat portion and a non-flat portion is inserted through a slot on the arm and a hole on the base plate such that during the travel state, the horizontal orientated arm is in a fully extended position, and during the stored state, the horizontal orientated arm is in a non- extended position.

A pluggable cartridge for inserting a circuit card into an enclosure without operator access to the enclosure interior is provided. The cartridge includes a top portion and a first wall configured to secure the circuit card thereon for movement in unison therewith and a second wall. The first and second walls have a bottom edge and a top edge wherein the top edge of the first wall is movably secured to the top portion. The top edge of the second wall is removably secured to the top portion by snap-fit means. The circuit card is housed within and protected by the first and second walls so as to be moveable with respect to the bottom edge of the second wall. A tail stock bezel is removably secured by snap-fit means at one end of the second wall and top portion. A handle is movably connected to the top portion so as to be movable between a first position and a second position. A portion of the handle is operably attached to the first wall by an articulated mechanical linkage such that movement of the handle to the first position causes the printed circuit card secured to the first wall to move to a position proximate the bottom edge. Movement of the handle to the second position causes the printed circuit card to move to a position remote from the bottom edge.

An assembly for use in providing EMI shielding for a circuit card. The assembly comprises a circuit card; a fastener; and, a shielding apparatus. The shielding apparatus comprises: a body providing EMI shielding and includes an attaching portion extending therefrom, wherein the attaching portion has a segment at a proximal end portion thereof which blocks an opening in the body for controlling EMI leakage and positions the attaching portion so that a fastener can fasten the attaching portion to a circuit card such that a first fastener end portion is engageable in juxtaposed relationship with a first card surface and a second fastener end portion terminates so as not to extend generally beyond a predetermined distance from a second card surface of the card.

Apparatus, assembly and system for enhancing EMI shielding

A chassis for a computer, computer related or other electronic device includes a door that closes an access opening in the chassis when in the closed position and permits access to the interior of the chassis when opened for a user or service technician. A latch releasably secures the door in the closed position and is operable by a user or service technician for opening the door from the closed position and closing the door from the open position without the benefit of a screwdriver, wrench or other tool. In selected embodiments, the latch is biased to account for compression reaction forces of a seal or gasket surrounding the access opening while still providing for manual manipulation of the door and access to the interior of the chassis.

Spring loaded latching for system enclosure panels

A cable management bar and bracket assembly is mounted within an equipment enclosure. The brackets are supported on and movable along the bar to present cable support positions at various transverse locations. The brackets are of generally U-shaped configuration with cable supporting hooks formed in one depending flange and with inwardly projecting tabs formed in the other depending flange which extend beneath the bar to make the bracket captive on the bar. Slots formed in the bar at one axial location permit the bracket to be assembled to and removed from the bar when the tabs are aligned with and passed through the slots. The assembly also includes mounting brackets at each end of the bar which are formed integral with the bar of a single piece of material while the bar portion is formed as a downwardly opening U-shaped channel element.

In an electrical system having a connector board with at least one electrical connector thereon for receiving an electrical device therein, volumetric vital product parametric data is stored in memory associated with the connector board. The stored volumetric vital product parametric data can be accessed with the electrical system to check for available space for a proposed electrical device, for example. The stored data may include information about dimensional characteristics of the connector board and the at least one electrical connector. This data can be compared with corresponding data for the electrical device to determine compatibility, for example.

Method and apparatus for storing volumetric vital product data (VPD) in memory associated with a connector or connector board

A stacked electrical connector assembly and cover arrangement includes a stacked electrical connector assembly that includes a lower electrical connector, and an upper electrical connector disposed over the lower electrical connector in a stacked relationship. Each of the lower electrical connector and the upper electrical connector have at least one lead, with the lead of the upper electrical connector being longer than the lead of the lower electrical connector. A cover is disposed over the leads to protect at least the lead of the upper electrical connector from damage. The cover includes a back wall, and an edge wall that projects outward from the back wall. The back wall and the edge wall collectively define a recess that accommodates at least the lead of the upper electrical connector therein. The edge wall extends only partially around a periphery of the back wall to form an edge opening, so as to allow a portion of the stacked electrical connector assembly to extend out of the recess via the edge opening.

An autodocking assembly for use with a circuit board includes a card holder adapted to accommodate and secure one of a plurality of electronic cards therein, and a pivot arm attached to the card holder which is adapted to pivot such that an edge connector of the one electronic card in the card holder docks with a corresponding slot connector on the circuit board.

A cooling system for a host device affords enhanced reliability using multiple blower units mounted in parallel between a low pressure plenum and a high pressure plenum and a control system that senses when a blower unit is failing or has failed and responds by shutting down the failed unit and increasing the speed of the remaining blowers to maintain the air flow volume delivered to the cooling path. To maintain the integrity of the cooling air path while affording continuous operation of the host device, a spring biased closure door seals the access opening through which the blower is mounted when a blower unit is removed and displaced by the blower unit to an inoperative position against the biasing force of the spring when the blower unit is installed or replaced. To prevent recirculation through a vacated blower unit mounting space, a one way air flow device, in the form of a shutter assembly including plural pivoting louvers or vanes is mounted at the exhaust location of each blower. Thus the cooling air delivery is maintained and a blower unit can be removed for maintenance or replacement without interruption or impairment of host device operation.

System packaging for high performance computer applications

A hot docking mechanism enables a PCI type card with an edge connector to be inserted into an enclosure and docked in a card socket on the motherboard without operator access to the enclosure interior. A card holder carries the card and is supported on a card guide for sliding motion into the enclosure to a position at which the edge connector is aligned with the socket secured to the device motherboard. A camming assembly includes a sliding cam operable from outside the enclosure to convert horizontal sliding motion to vertical motion of the card into and out of the socket. The card holder is cammed out of the sliding support of the card guide during docking and returned to sliding support when the camming mechanism undocks the card. The card guide also comprises a rail that guides the card holder within the enclosure during both card docked and card undocked conditions. The card holder supports and enhances circuit card rigidity while the camming assembly, supported on the lower mother board surface beneath the socket, increases mother board rigidity during docking and undocking. The card is supported on the card holder and the camming connections are disposed at the longitudinal ends and aligned with the socket to minimize pitch and yaw during card docking and undocking.
