Described herein are embodiments of thermal donor laminate formulations and thermal transfer donor elements comprising the same. Thermal donor elements described herein can be used to transfer the laminate onto thermal receiver elements using thermal transfer means to create a transparent, protective overcoat film. In certain embodiments, the laminate is formulated without colloidal silica. Laminate formulations comprise appropriate solvent packages to account for the removal of colloidal silica, including, in some embodiments, solvent packages that do not include DEK. Certain embodiments described herein exhibit advantageous performance characteristics, such as avoiding and/or mitigating flash, satin back transfer, and print artifacts, and resist scratches.

Thermal donor laminate formulation and thermal donor elements comprising the same

A heat transferable material includes a heat transferable polymeric binder and a light stabilizer that is an N-oxyl radical derived from a hindered amine. The N-oxyl radical has the following formula (A) or formula (B): wherein R, R, R, and Rare each a straight or branched C-Calkyl or alkene, and Rand Rare each independently H, CHCH, CH, OH, OR, COOH, COOR, or NH&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)R, wherein R is a straight or branched C-Calkyl or alkene, and having a molecular weight of 600 or less. At least one of Rand Ris not hydrogen. The heat transferable material can be in a section or patch on a thermal donor element to provide a protective overcoat material. A patch in the donor element can include a dye. The heat transferable material provides better image stability and improved iridescence when transferred to a receiver of some type.

A thermal transfer donor element has a polymeric support having at least a portion thereof coated with a thermal transferable protective transparent film. This film comprises: (1) a poly(vinyl acetal) in an amount of at least 50-70 weight %, (2) a second polymer, and (3) colloidal silica. In addition, (a) the molecular weight of the second polymer is greater than the molecular weight of the poly(vinyl acetal), (b) the weight ratio of the poly(vinyl acetal) to the second polymer is at least 5:1 and up to and including 12:1, (c) the weight ratio of colloidal silica to the second polymer is at least 1.5:1 and up to and including 3:1, and (d) the amount of colloidal silica is at least 10 weight % and up to and including 20 weight %, based on total thermal transferable protective transparent film dry weight.

The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for cell separation. In particular, the invention relates to separation of a particular cell type from a mixture of different cell types based on the differential rolling property of the particular cell type on a substrate coated with molecules that exhibits adhesive property with the particular cell type. The molecules can be directly coated on the surface or coated on nanoparticles that are adhered to the surface. This technology is adaptable for use in implantable shunts and devices for cell trafficking or tumor neutralization.

The use of stick preventative agents in both the dye-donor element and the receiver element can enable high speed printing without donor-receiver sticking.
